The first basketball game in the series, simply titled Backyard Basketball, certainly plays like the other games in the series, except now it's basketball. Kevin Garnett and Lisa Leslie are featured in the game, although they're the only actual basketball players in the game, which is the only serious flaw in the game, because if you don't want to play all the non professional characters, you're not going to find a lot of options.
The game lets you use special move in the game, such as a doughnut dunk, which lets you score 3 points on a dunk from farther then half court, a ice cream power, which keeps your opponents distracted, and many more. It wouldn't be a Backyard game without custom character mode, and that's exactly what the game fwatures. You can make your own character and even fill in his stats. This is extremely fun to do, since there are a lot of ways to make your dream character. There is also a regular season mode, which lets you play in a regular season, and the playoffs.
Graphically, the game certainly looks good for a PC game, and it is place in a upper camera view. The hoops and characters are easily recognized because of the great effort of Atari and Humongous. Although there are some minor awkward movements, it won't really matter.
The music in the game is awesome. The game doesn't have a sound test, but it's great enough to be the best feature of the game. Most of the sound is incredible, and if you want great music, Backyard Basketball is one of those that come to mind.
While it's simple, Backyard Basketball is fun and an enjoyable addition to the Backyard series. This is easily one of the best Backyard games ever made. You couldn't really go wrong with this game if you want an addictive basketball game for the PC.
