"Sigh" I just don't get it.

Why is it that year after year we, the loyal sports fans, get fed garbage from EA. Sure Madden 11 is a great installment in the series but it's barely changed in the last several years of the franchise. Tackling is still stiff as well as the animations and those random moments of pure inhuman feats are pathetic. Backbreaker however breaks free from the pack and takes a stand by boldly planting their foot in the football genre's door.

Sure there are no NFL teams on Backbreaker, well that's not true you can download them so strike one for Madden. Anyways Backbreaker's Euphoria engine is pure gold. For the first time a football game truly brings you close to the field, and say what you will Backbreaker has the most realistic, punishing, and rewarding tackles to date. While the graphics may not be up to par with Madden 11, Backbreaker has a unique graphic style that grows on you the more you play. Also Backbreaker has broken free from the multitude of buttons that need to be known to pull of the right move to break free from the pack. Backbreaker utilizes the beauty and simplicity of the right analog stick allowing gamers to break ankles, tackles, spin, juke, and dive to victory.

I know some of the biggest concerns with Backbreaker are the vast changes to controls, the "lack" of NFL teams (once again they can be downloaded), and the drastic presentation changes. Well again the controls really feel at home and those who claim Backbreaker fans merely suck at Madden and fall back on Backbreaker are completely and uterly wrong. Backbreaker has the perfect blend of difficulty and since the release of recent patches has addressed many issues that gamers have had. Also the new camera angle (criticized by critics and gamers alike) is as close to on the field as you can get. I personally heard complaints that it's impossible to see the entire field, but were you actually running down the field would you be able to see the entire field without turning?

Backbreaker is only the first of a hopefully upcoming long running franchise that can finally end the mediocracy that EA calls a football franchise. While Backbreaker may be young and not for some, true football fans will enjoy this new addition to the genre and will find that this is the future of football games. By no means is Backbreaker perfect but thanks to patches and a game that dares to be bold gamers no longer have to suffer under EA's reign of terror.
