Awesome gameplay, kind of repetitious, but an incredible story that's just beginning to unfold.

Assassin's Creed in an incredibly fun game. The overarching story is interesting and original, and at first it's kind of frustrating how it's given to you at such a slow trickle, but (in hindsight) I can see how it's paced well and it gives the game a great mysterious feel. You play as Desmond Miles who is being (basically) held captive by an organization called Abstergo. They have a machine (the Animus) that Desmond climbs into that lets him access his ancestors' memories via his DNA (a little far-fetched, but hey, it's Science *Fiction*). Once you're in the Animus, you play as Altaïr, an assassin in 12th century Middle East. It's a great story of conspiracy, politics and war, and Ubisoft did a great job interweaving the story of the past into the present-day story.
The gameplay is great, and it's wonderful fun running around, climbing up buildings and posts, jumping from rooftop to rooftop, and the combat system is pretty nice. However, the assassination quests are a bit repetitive; they each have items and dialogue specific to the part of the story you're in, but the mechanics are overused. Still, it doesn't take away from the fact that this game is amazing.
