so i rented this from gamefly, and after playing for about 2 maybe 3 hours i just cant get into it. it feels so slow like i cant go running around and enjoy myself or a bunch of guards try to kill me. is the second any better in that it gives me more freedom to run and have fun?

The second is much better, but you still wont be able to sprint around and do whatever you want. If you don't like this one, I'm doubtful that you would like the second.

The second is a massive upgrade over the first one, gameplay flows much better and is much more exciting, but the core concepts remain the same.

Actually, in 2, you CAN run where ever without getting guards' attention.

This. AC2 is AMAZING.
AC1 actually made me overlook this series until a few weeks ago. Picked up AC2 and finished it yesterday. Everything was amazing, even the sidequests! It's the first open world sandbox game I've ever LOVED (and liked.)
Just read about this one's story and skip to AC2. It's totally worth it!
I'm not the type of guy to complete games in a few weeks (I usually cycle between games) but that one kept me hooked from the beginning to the end.
