a yoonik! Assassin's Creed Rogue review: Which I Guess Also Applies to Black Flag as well

User Rating: 7 | Assassin's Creed Rogue PC

PROS:

- Satisfying and beautifully-choreographed fight sequences, though at times it just seems that the blade just passes through enemies like they're butter

- Absolutely gorgeous turquoise Northern/Caribbean seas, especially at full Moon and at storms, and the Arctic Sea/Atlantic Sea map in general

- Naval warfare in general as well as fort takeovers, though it doesn't have a smidgen of difference in both games

- The assassin costume incites the badass in every player (like walking away from a sinking ship ala Trevor from Grand Theft Auto V)

- Pretty impressive voice acting and dialogue

CONS:

- The sheer amount of icons (side activites, the freaking collectibles) dotted all over the massive freaking map, making it a completionist's nightmare, that incites more frustration than anticipation for exploration

- The pretty repetitive gameplay of the main missions, which can get to your nerves as per the other cons in this review. In addition, the sheer amount of side tracks the game wants you to take (the collectibles, the treasure maps, the assassinations, fort takeover, legendary battles, etc.) makes it pretty hard to follow the story events

- The frustrating fact that Shay/Kenway jumps to the freaking river hundred meters down the canyon when I wanted him to tiptoe to that branch (and the like)

- The ridiculous gameplay elements, like the fact that you can blend into a group of three people and still become invisible to enemies despite your outrageous constume, the fact that you can board an incapacitated ship (and repair your ship afterwards) when the freaking Man of War should've already blown you away to Kingdom Come, and the fact that once you can engage in a five minute dialogue with your target after you kill him in the middle of a hundred guards and continue the mission completely unscathed on your ship. Oh yeah, 'cause the Animus

- The pretty bland look of the game's metropolitan areas, almost like Fallout: New Vegas' Las Vegas

- The prevalence of platforming sections for this stealth game, which makes you wonder why aren't you playing Limbo instead
