Assassin's Creed III User Review
- Difficulty:
- Easy
- Time Spent:
- 10 to 20 Hours
- The Bottom Line:
- "Disappointing"
I recently finished Assassins Creed III, though it has many new and changed aspects, I wouldn't call it the best of the series. I would rant a little because this game really FRUSTRATED me.
The Good:
>The graphics of AC3 is very clean and the map design(pointing at Boston) is very good. The main character is well thought out (Connor and Haytham) and the game makes you feel like your in the 18th century
>Some epic war sequences
>Many side quests(Liberty contracts)
>AMAZING Naval gameplay
>Animal Hunting and new mechanics such as bait and snares
>Large World to explore
>Some "historical" yet surprising encounters(Washington, Pitcairn)
>Some epic soundtracks
The Bad:
This game has TONS of problems. Ubisoft has technically messed this game up :( Let the RANT begin!
Graphics: Graphics cap for PC and very boring and bland maps (Forests and oh my GOD! The crappy place where you and your team are in. Full of black obsidian rocks, boring gray walls, and the most annoying symbols in the galaxy. I know its part of the "Illuminati" crap but its just SOOO overused in the franchise
>Insanely BAD map design when Desmond went to Brazil
>Abstergo labs are just MEH, full of glowy lights!
Gameplay:
>The amount of cutscenes are just too DAMN HIGH! The first sequences of haytham are more of walking to one cutscene to another, nothing else. It doesn't end there though
>The worst controls in Assassins Creed HISTORY. They totally changed the controls for the worst. Apparently, Conor and Haytham just runs and jumps over anything they want because the spacebar(to toggle between running and parkour) is already replaced by the right mouse button. Its either walk and parkour now....making chasing across alleys the most horrifying and the most stressful part of the game ever
>Counter system is crap now because they replaced parry with the ultimate counter button! Which is E. Press E to counter :(
>Targetting system is almost non existent. I don't have to explain this, press F for the **** camera to aim better or just press Q and instantly kill someone. At least AC2 would indicate your trajectory!
>Too much useless side quests. Distract the guards and kick their a** for the kids to eat.....-_____-
>Did I mention you cant even earn money when doing side quests and you even lose some?(bribing taxes)
>Speaking of money the only way you can really earn quick is either hunting or just opening locks to safes. I would rather open boxes that would give me 500-1000 euros than hunt Elk's that can earn me 50 per kill
>Speaking of opening locks, this game probably has the worst pick locking mechanics ever
>Crafting is extremely time consuming for what it does
Finally:
(SPOILER)
The ending is just WTF!!! Connor gets extremely injured when he gets stabbed by a wooden stake(apparently, its more lethal than the hundreds of bullets, swords and axes that hit him) and shoots Lee....ALL IN A CUTSCENE. But one cutscene isn't enough to kill that bas*ard, so you limp back to the harbor when a random guy(yes) tells you where the next cutscene is. So you go back to the frontier where you and Lee drink some whiskey("friendly" cutscene yes?)...Then you stab him and get his necklace.
Don't even get me started on those sequences concerning "Ms. Know it all" Minerva and her paranoid kind. They constantly b*tch about how the sun would go deathstar on earth and despite having a "wise" race are stupid enough to not finish the supposed "shield". Desmond's sequences(extremely boring) aren't even worth dirt compared to ANY of Altair, Ezio ,Haytham, or Connor's sequences.
I frustratingly finished this game, though I only enjoyed how Connor massacres his victims and the awesome ship battles, the ups don't really make up for its cons.
I give it a 7.0 because the setting, graphics, navy battles and the violence are still pretty good

As far as I'm concerned, ACIII shoots for the moon but falls flat on its face.

I would prefer to wait 2 years for a good game, rather than have 2 bad games.
