The Bottom Line:

"Almost, but not quite"

Many people have been living to the hype of AC3 ever since it's been announced. I waited in line for a good hour to be able to get the game hoping it would recover from the downward slope it has been after AC2. While playing the game, I took a sudden interest for Haytham, whom I though would be my character for most of the game. Yet, as I progressed on the story and switched to Connor, it became dull and boring. True to Haytham's word, Connor was naive and too idealistic, which doesn't make him interesting. Connor doesn't have the impact that Ezio did in the 3 games (but mostly in AC2). It was a very linear gameplay with expected outcomes and missions. Get in, kill, get out. The naval battles do spice things up and is one of the few exciting features of the game. Combat flow truly is smoother and better, even allowing multiple takedowns and kill through amazing cinematics. Story-wise, the game isn't all it is. Typical "father is villain and mother is a saint and dies therefore i must avenge her" type of story which we have already seen in AC2 and even AC:Brotherhood. It was a good attempt on Ubisoft's part to try to experiment with a character that is truly significant in America's history yet somehow, the characters in the story have no impact on me. Even Charles Lee is a bore for me since he has no distinctive traits that separates him from the other Templars. I would have much preferred playing as Haytham rather than Connor. To sum it up, I give the game a 7/10 and hope that in the coming DLCs, they would add new content that adds depth to the story.
