A solid game, with ups and downs that make it worth the adventure

Review for Assassins Creed III for Xbox360

In this adventure of Assassins Creed we take part in the life of a Native American named Connor. The game begins off as you play as Desmond exploring some ruins which are post to have some secret to save the world, in which is post to blow up in 2 months and apparently no ones really noticed still. The problem with this situation is we have done it over and over again, stuck in some building as Desmond sitting in a chair, adding no real depth to the story outside of the ancestors passed lives. Not to mention how Desmond is related to an Indian only 250 something years ago and yet shows no signs of any of there culture is beyond me, not to mention his skin color is pure white all around.

Connors tale takes place through the American Revolution in which he is trying to protect his village and people. Through a vision he leaves his village and becomes an assassin. The problem I have about this game is that the assassins are basically dead and I don't see how that happened, and the Templar's are mostly just politics right now. So Connor is basically a solo assassin kicking butt helping randomly throughout the war. Thing is, everyone knows where he lives, the game has troops everywhere and no ones really supporting him but an old man and a few politics that can't fight for there lives. The story lacks realism, but when it comes to history accuracy its pretty dead on. Connor also lacks depth in his character, as he always seems angry and demanding change and through the story besides killing off his targets he doesn't actually do anything to change history.

Gameplay is solid and they have added a few new things in this game which are really quiet neat, from navel sea travel which looks stunning, to animal hunting. The combat is a bit weaker then the other games giving you a set health bar, no potions and all the weapons are given to you from the start, same goes for your armour for the most part. Let's put it this way, you never get stronger, you're given almost everything to begin with and adds a few new sub weapons like bows and ropes and such. The game play is still fun, it's just not as fun as older games and I think it also has to do with the fact there less sneaking. There's still ways to sneak, but there's so many guards and less hiding spots that it's basically fight or keep running till you escape. You also spend a lot of time in the forest jumping through trees, which roof hoping is basically gone out the window. The game just feels no longer like an assassin, just a action hero kicking butt. I enjoyed the game, its just missing a lot of stuff that made the others great games.

Music is solid, lots of great soundtracks and the graphics are stunning in this game. Also change in weather from storms, to winter was a big change for the series. Also adding kids and animals made the world feel more alive and realistic.

Overall the game is solid. Aside from some bugs and unrealistic storyline at times, it is a great game to play and worth the money. Will you want to play it years to come? Probably not, but the solid 50 hours you will get out of this game is well worth the price.
