Zynga Platform entering open beta within days

Social gaming giant opening up Zynga.com with Words With Friends, CastleVille, Zynga Poker, Hidden Chronicles, and CityVille.

Zynga's plans to branch out away from Facebook on the Web are nearing fruition. Today, company CEO Mark Pincus confirmed that the Zynga Platform will enter an open beta phase within the next few days. This social gaming hub will be located at Zynga.com.

Zynga will soon be building its own moat around CastleVille.

Zynga plans to initially stock its gaming platform with a number of its more popular titles, including Words With Friends, CastleVille, Zynga Poker, Hidden Chronicles, and CityVille.

The company also noted that its platform will be completely integrated with social networking giant Facebook. This integration entails letting gamers log in using their Facebook IDs, as well as continue playing with their friends on that platform.

"Every day, we think about the challenges in enabling play," Pincus said. "How can we surface more friends that want to help you build your bridge in CityVille? How do we help you find your perfect match in Words With Friends? Zynga.com is designed to make it easier for you to play with friends."

The Zynga Platform is being positioned to accomplish this goal through a number of features. The social stream is a method by which players can interact with one another in real time. Gamers will also accumulate a "helpfulness score," which is designed to aid others in figuring out who is most likely to lend a hand. The platform will also have chat functionality.

The company intends to add games from other developers in the future. These include MobScience (Infamous Anarchy), Row Sham Bow (Woodland Heroes), and Sava Transmedia. Zynga hopes to attract more partners by releasing its development toolkit later this year.

Social gaming is NOT gaming, I don't think it has any place in GS... Why would you post a news about a social sgaming stuff, if you won't even review their sgames?

I don't understand how this move allows them to break free of Facebook if they're still going to allow / require users to log on with their FB credentials. I cannot tell you how many services I have tried out because they wanted me to sign on with FB credentials...

Zynga is a terrible social game developer. I wouldn't be critical if they actually cared about games or their customers, but they don't. Based on what I've heard customer service is terrible, pricing is unfair and all-in-all Zynga is just a pathetic cash cow.

People playing stupid games on social networks is annoying because this model generates alot of profit from little effort and thus influencing where gaming is heading to. other than that I don't care about them.

It's not Zynga's fault that their scams...I mean...services are purchased enough to give them a significant market and influence others in the industry to follow suit with similar services. It's the customer's fault for giving Zynga the money and convincing them that their services are worthwhile. Why won't Zynga go away? Because they make enough money from the small group of people who do play to justify their business models and continue pushing out their games and services within those games.

@Richardthe3rd As much as it pains for me say this, the average American consumer these days are a bunch of lost sheep that needs to be told what to buy...despite how obviously ridiculous it is.

I'm all for anyone playing what games they like to play. However, Zynga is a BS company who doesn't care for the players at all. They allow constant bullying, harassment, and spamming in their games. When reported you either get oh well not our problem, or no response at all.

Not a big fan of social sites, but I will go to several online gaming sites. I never had a Facebook account, so I'll probably play a few of these games when the site is actually done.

Go away, Zynga. Because of you, people who know nothing about games are yelling "Social games are the future!!! Consoles are dead!" When you go out of business I'll be the first one to say "I told you so." when this fad ends and you go under. Social Games are the new pet rock. Eventually, America will wake up.

That undead guy in the CasteVille pic looks a lot like the Necromancer from Warcraft 3. Is Zynga trying to rip off other games now?

I don't understand. I just don't understand. Zynga seems so obvious. But right now at work, there are 3 people playing "Words with Friends" on their iPhones, and talking about "apps" they can buy associated with the game. Seriously WTF?

He forgot "How can we siphon more money out of our customers... er, I mean players?" "What game should we copy next?" "How can we sucker more people into playing?" "Where can I buy a good used ivory backscratcher?"
