Zynga's next game is so big the social publisher decided to drop its familiar "Ville" naming format in favor of a "World." The publisher today detailed Adventure World, which it describes as a "social adventure" game roughly 40 times larger than its other popular titles.

El Dorado's behind you! You're going the wrong way!
El Dorado's behind you! You're going the wrong way!

The first game from the new Zynga Boston studio, Adventure World is built on a new engine and takes a tweaked approach to the Zynga formula of Facebook games. The game integrates puzzle-solving and some light role-playing-game-style combat to take players through a story that spans 30 environments across five distinct areas as they hunt for the treasure of El Dorado. In addition to the main storyline, Zynga will release side stories and other content updates for the game, and it has plans for future "chapters" along the line of the initial El Dorado quest.

As with all of the publisher's games, Adventure World will be free to play, but with a strong encouragement for social play and supported by microtransactions. Players will be able to recruit their friends' characters and use their abilities and items to progress through their own dungeons. On top of that, the more friends team together, the more effective their assistance will be to each other. As for microtransactions, players will be able to purchase customization options for their characters, as well as better tools and gadgets to help them through the game. (For example, players wishing to skip a certain block puzzle may be able to buy a grappling hook that will let them bypass the puzzle section entirely.)
