Microsoft Game Studios today announced the first expansion pack for its PC zoo simulation, Zoo Tycoon 2. The add-on, Zoo Tycoon 2: Endangered Species, is being developed by Blue Fang Games out of Waltham, Massachusetts. No release date has been announced yet.

In Endangered Species, zookeepers will be able to care for rare and endangered animals to make sure they don't go the way of the dodo. Among the more than a dozen animals added to the game are the giant Galapagos tortoise and the scimitar-horned oryx.

Other new features include a variety of new ways for guests to get around the zoo, including sky trams and vehicle tours. Gamers will also have a host of new challenges in both the campaign and free-form modes.

GameSpot will have more on Zoo Tycoon 2: Endangered Species soon. For more information about the series, read the full review of Zoo Tycoon.
