Zombies and cheerleaders prove successful, as Lollipop Chainsaw sells 1 million copies

It took 20 months, but Grasshopper Manufacture's 2012 Xbox 360 and PlayStation hack-and-slash game Lollipop Chainsaw has now sold over 1 million copies to date.

"Get your celebration gear on! Lollipop Chainsaw has sold more than a million copies!!!," the studio said on Twitter. "Woot Woot!!"

The official Grasshopper Manufacture Twitter account goes on to tease that 1 million sales means the game could see a sequel someday. "Personally, I think so," the studio wrote.

In Lollipop Chainsaw, 18-year-old protagonist Juliet lays waste to zombies with a chainsaw while wearing a cheerleading outfit. The game initially shipped 700,000 copies, the highest shipment tally ever for a Grasshopper-developed title.

The studio, led by Goichi Suda AKA Suda 51, also created No More Heroes and Shadows of the Damned. The Japanese outfit shipped Killer Is Dead for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC last year and is currently working on action game Lily Bergamo for the PlayStation 4.
