Zen Pinball tops PSN in September

Zen Studios achieves high score on Sony's online platform last month, with Castle Crashers and the PSP Minis Blast Off taking silver and bronze.

Today, Zen Studios released its latest update to its PlayStation Network-exclusive flipper sim Zen Pinball. The Halloween-themed pinball table is titled Paranormal and features crypts, ghouls, and "the world's first"10-flipper playfield. However, even without the new offering, Zen Studios has been performing well on the PSN, as Sony announced today that the Zen Pinball was the top paid download on the service in September.

Though Sony did not offer sales numbers, the publisher did provide a look at the service's top 10 sellers. Following Zen Pinball was The Behemoth's Castle Crashers, which received a positive critical reception on its debut for the service at the end of August. A pair of PSP Minis followed, as Blast Off and Echoes slotted in at third and fourth. Rounding out the top five was Sony's Syphon Filter 3, which was first released on the original PlayStation in 2001.

Zen Pinball's Paranormal table is the latest add-on for the game.

Sega's Sonic Adventure, which itself was first released on the Dreamcast, fell in at sixth, while Hudson's aquatic sim My Aquarium picked up a seventh-place finish. In eighth was Ubisoft's beat-'em-up Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, followed by the top 10's only downloadable content, Red Dead Redemption's Legends and Killers Pack. Hothead Games also crept into the top 10 with DeathSpank: Thongs of Virtue.

PSN Top 10 paid September downloads:
1. Zen Pinball
2. Castle Crashers
3. Blast Off (Minis)
4. Echoes (Minis)
5. Syphon Filter 3 (PSone)
6. Sonic Adventure
7. My Aquarium
8. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World
9. Red Dead Redemption: Legends and Killers Pack (DLC)
10. DeathSpank: Thongs of Virtue

I have had Zen Pinball since May 09 and it is still a great game, I have bought every DLC for this game and this new table is awesome. As far as being free for plus owners, I dont read the article that way, the article said most paid, now it is free so it should only be counted as downloads and not purchases. How they do add it up........ who knows. Maybe because it is free for us plus owners but was never realized by others. Who knows and who cares this game is still great!

I just remembered that numbers 1, 3, 4 and 5 are free to PSN+ members. That probably gave them a great push.

I have been playing ZEN pinball for a few years now and still waiting for a patch to shorten the load time. El Dorado is my favorite table, Street Fighter my least favorite.

Definitely buying Zen Pinball's new add-on, especially with the idea of 10 flipper playing field. Pinball FTW.

Ok don't get me wrong Zen pinball is great I have owned it for sometime, but I'm pretty sure the fact that it was offered as a free download to PlayStation Plus members (which I' happy to say I am a member and quite enjoying its benefits thus far) recently pretty much set the score for this. Also My Aquarium scoring above Red Dead or DeathSpank is craziness on its own!

How could My Aquarium better than DeathSpank? Who is crazy enough to buy that?
