Zelda 64: The Packaging

Nintendo chooses Chromium Graphics' KromeFX Technology to highlight the gold copies of its latest masterpiece.

When you hold your gold cartridge copy of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the first time, you'll be looking at packaging that uses Chromium Graphics' KromeFX. KromeFX is the reflective, almost 3D-looking rays of light shimmering out of the Zelda logo on the box, signifying that the copy is the collector's edition gold cartridge.

"For the limited edition of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Chromium Graphics worked with Nintendo's Design Department to create a unique packaging look that exemplified the contemporary and state-of-the-art nature of Zelda and distinguished the limited, collector's edition from the standard release," A.J. Wilson, Chromium Graphics' senior sales and marketing executive, said in a statement. "KromeFX allowed us to convey an energetic, high-performance, and high-value image that fit in perfectly with Nintendo's strategy."
