The SNES classic Super Castlevania IV is now available on the 3DS eShop, though it's only playable on the New 3DS. It costs $8.

Super Castlevania IV released on December 4, 1991, and was developed and published by Konami--yes, the company made more than just pachinko machines once upon a time. It was the first Castlevania on the Super Nintendo and featured the same character and setting from the very first game in the series.

The Wii U already has Super Castlevania IV on its Virtual Console, though buying it on one platform won't get it for you on the other. The eShop doesn't support cross-platform playing or buying, so you'll have to purchase the game on both platforms if you want to play it on both.

GameSpot reviewed the Wii Virtual Console version of Super Castlevania IV and gave it a score of 7.8/10 for flawless emulation, gameplay, and "diverse, visually interesting levels." Critic Brad Shoemaker said that if you don't mind pushing through its trying difficulty, "Super Castlevania IV is probably a worthwhile download for you."

The New 3DS is the only Nintendo handheld with SNES games available on its Virtual Console. There are a bunch of great, classic games available including Super Mario World, Super Metroid, and The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, in addition to Donkey Kong Country, EarthBound, and Super Punch-Out.
