You Can No Longer Sell Content Included With Xbox One Bundles

Microsoft has moved to tie console bundle content with accounts rather than codes.

Microsoft is changing the way you will redeem codes included with console purchases in the future by integrating it with the setup process. Digital Direct is Microsoft's move to remove physical codes from console bundles, associating content with an account instead.

During setup, you will be prompted to sign in with an existing Microsoft account or create a new one for content to be linked to. From there you can directly redeem bundled content to your account, which includes games, Xbox Live trials, and more. Content can be stored for redemption later on another account, but will only be able to be redeemed once from the console's settings menu.

This streamlines the process of getting content onto your new console by reducing the number of steps you need to take, but also prevents you from selling off bundled content that you might not want. Many console bundles included games that you could previously sell to offset the cost of your new purchase, but Digital Direct makes that impossible going forward.

The system is already in circulation, with the limited Cyberpunk 2077 Xbox One X featuring the first use of Digital Direct. Microsoft says all future Xbox One and Xbox Series X bundles will use this system going forward.
