The crowdfunding campaign for Yooka-Laylee, a spiritual successor to legendary N64 game Banjo-Kazooie, continues to soar.
It's now reached £1.5 million ($2.4 million), which is more than 894 percent of its original £175,000 ($275,000) target. The Yooka-Laylee crowdfunding campaign needed only 38 minutes to reach its initial target, going on to raise $1.5 million its its first 24 hours. The campaign still has 34 days left.

Developer Playtonic Games has also revealed a new stretch goal for Yooka-Laylee. Should the campaign hit £2 million ($3.1 million), the studio will release the game's first DLC pack free for all backers. Playtonic stressed that it won't even start developing this content until after the main game is finished and shipped.
If the Yooka-Laylee campaign receives even more monetary support, Playtonic will use those extra funds to "polish the game to the Nth degree."
Yooka-Laylee is a "buddy-duo" game in the vein of Banjo-Kazooie, but instead of a bear and a bird, it stars a chameleon and a bat. The game is being worked on by a number of Rare veterans who developed Banjo-Kazooie, and is due to launch in 2016 for PC, Mac, Linux, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Wii U.
You can secure a copy of Yooka-Laylee by pledging at least $15. Backing at that level gets you a copy of the PC version, while you'll need to pay around $22 to get a console copy.
Earlier this week, Playtonic revealed a new supporting character for Yooka-Laylee, a trouser snake named Trowzer.
Good to see games like this have a chance. Another recent game that got funded in a matter of hours was "Bloodstained" (spiritual successor to SotN -- Castlevania games). Iga could not find any backers/publishers for the revenue he need to make his dream a reality so he turned to kickstarter and low behold has hugely surpassed his intended funding goal.
Hope this game retains what made Banjo Kazooie so magical, the characters, the story, the gameplay, it was all a melting pot of win. The nuts and bolts abomination that came later was...words can't describe how far Rare has fallen...
I hope this game is great, make the corporation rethink their strategies and allow more games like this on their rosters.
I hope this game is as fun as Banjo was back thent, BTW GS you should cover "Little Devil", great looking game currently on KS.

I don't like Season Pass on this game. Seems out of place on a classic feeling giving.
If Banjo Kazooie ever had Season Pass I'd be a little dismayed. I'd still get it.
Free DLC? Now they're speaking my language
I still think this game is missing something....aha! Two words guys: Lego.....waaaaiit for it.....Cars. Boom
Rare veternas? May be hard to get dissapointed :P
Sweet sassy molassy!
LOL at all the people who claimed this game would flop on Kickstarter.
I guess AAA publishers and developers are right. There isn't any demand for this style of game.
Ha....haha....hahahahahahahAHAHAHA!
I don't do the "crowdfunding" scam. I'll buy the game once it comes out on store shelves and reviews show the game is worth playing.
@greaseman1985 pretty sad way of looking at it.
@greaseman1985 Crowdfunding isn't a scam, but just like everything it can be abused. Apart from that, I agree with you that it's best to wait for the finished game and look at what others say about it before buying it.
@greaseman1985 please don't forget to also check users reviews.
@greaseman1985 Yeh why pay a minimal fee to back it and get a copy when you can wait til it's finished and pay more, so foolish to make sure a game gets created and get a copy and early access to the game.
Just backed them last night, console edition here I come :)
Putting $22 on this, $300 on Bloodstained. I want that Signed Collector Box.
@acharis_frost I'm sure it will accumulate tons of value through the years
@andfx8 for Sure! I love Iga's work, and if he wants to keep these kinds of games Alive, He might as well just open a joint account with me. Just take what he needs lol
@andfx8 @acharis_frost I doubt he's purchasing it with the intent of reselling it later.
@gaealiege @andfx8 @acharis_frost I purchase collectors editions to sell later, so don't be so sure.
@mkeezay22 @gaealiege @andfx8 @acharis_frost And the guy buying it from you is looking to sell it later, then the guy buying it from him is looking to sell it later? Good old infinite loop.
If you're the type of person that buys up CE's so that you can resale at a higher price, you're a cancer in the gaming world that needs removed. Hawkers are scum.
Here is another thing that kind of bothered me:
"If the Yooka-Laylee campaign receives even more monetary support, Playtonic will use those extra funds to "polish the game to the Nth degree."
This should be done before they put the funds into the DLC not afterwards.
@grt8ness2017 Beggars can't be choosers..
@grt8ness2017 They've had that with all of the additional stretch goals, alongside a crucial "also". The point that they're trying to make is that the additional funds for each goal don't directly equate to their cost of the goal.
@grt8ness2017 How exactly does developing DLC after launch cut into polishing pre-launch? They've obviously got more than enough money to create the game they want to create, what are they going to use the extra money for? Hire a ton of people just to polish the game? We've all seen how polished big budget, large team games often are...
@grt8ness2017 I guess its just for the sake of making a clear end to the stretch goals, sort of them saying "okay cool from here on out its just extra cash and we'll be using it to add extra polish to the game"
But not that I disagree though, in terms of priorities, DLC should be way down on the list.
I can't think of DLC that would suit a platformer ever. If I knew there'd be DLC I'd have never backed it.
@npgr More worlds and things to do? Plague of Shadows for Shovel Knight looks promising.
@npgr LOL cool guy here, watch out people! Cool guy comin through!
@npgr I think most platformers would work well with having new levels added via DLC.
No. They should be reserved for a sequel imo. Banjo was a complete game. Nothing more could have added anything more to
I'm pretty cool
It detracts from the general story and accompleshent of a game. I've played all the great (and the not so great) 3d platformers as that's my nostalgia era and can honestly say not once would a extra world have improved on the game imo.
I think the DLC should be free for backers where it is at the moment (2.4 million).
I don't know how I feel about this stretch goal.
Well... maybe it has more to do with the fact they called it: "Payback time!"
In that way, it feels like they said;
For your amazing support, we want to give you free bonus DLC!*
* So long as you give us another £500,000.
@Too-DementeD Totally agree
@Too-DementeD Not giving YOU free DLC, they're giving the GAME free DLC, it's up to you if you want to see that for this title
@andfx8 @Too-DementeD not to mention that it clearly states the FIRST dlc pack. Seems like they are already getting a bit greedy just my opinion.
I never get the whole kickstarter gag until Bloodstained. It really is an awesome concept. I'm more excited about these than some big AAA titles. Yooka-Layee, Bloodstained, Mighty No. 9 and even Tokyo Dark all hold my interest. Still hoping that Shadow of the Eternals will be a thing.
@Legend002 So Excited for Bloodstained! It could pick up the mantle of Where the 2D Castlevania's left off, and bring a whole new Franchise.
Bloodstained is also doing extremely well. Nice to see support for these games and giving some middle finger to publishers https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/iga/bloodstained-ritual-of-the-night
Im more interested in bloodstained.
Glad this game is getting the funds it needs. I have high hopes for it.
This is conkers
