Yakuza 4 leans on retailers in mid-March

Sega confirms organized crime action game for March 15 release in North America, March 18 debut in Europe.

The Dragon of Dojima is ready to take flight again, as Sega today announced international release dates for Yakuza 4, the latest installment in its PlayStation-exclusive organized crime action series. North American gamers will be able to reacquaint themselves with Sega's take on the Japanese Mafia starting March 15, while European players will need to wait until the game launches there on March 18.

That's going to leave a mark.

In this latest installment, main character Kazuma Kiryu is joined by equally pugnacious combatants Masayoshi Tanimura, Shun Akiyama, and Taiga Saejima. Each of the four playable main characters has a distinct narrative, with each backstory carrying a connection to the game's Tojo clan.

Sega localized Yakuza 1, 2, and 3 but elected to skip the westward migration process for series spin-off Ryu ga Gotoku Kenzan!, which was released in Japan in 2008. A fifth installment set amidst a zombie apocalypse, Ryu ga Gotoku: Of the End, is expected to launch in Japan in March. Global releases for that game have yet to be announced.

I never played the first two but I loved 3, despite a few gameplay niggles, techincal flaws and the content cuts. Hopefully they will get 4 spot on. Looking forward to finding out.

Honestly has anyone ever really played the 1st three? I think there were like 5 people in Conneticut and Ohio that rented it once

The Yakuza Series is one of the rare series that gets better and longer with each game.I bet Yakuza in like 23-25 hours Yakuza 2 in about 35 hours and Yakuza 3 in 42-43 hours. It's amazing they keep making them bigger and better.

Yakuza has consistently been a bigger, more successful franchise than the overrated Shenmue ever was, so no way in HELL is it going anywhere. Also no way in hell is Shenmue 3 ever coming out. Same as the first two games aren't coming to Xbox Live, as, even if Sega did care about re-releasing failed games, size restrictions on Live would prevent these games from appearing. It's for this reason that Stranger's Wrath isn't coming to Xbox in fact. Yakuza is Sega's big money spinner these days, and it's much better than Shenmue ever was. Only fanboys living in the past would suggest otherwise. Move on guys, the rest of the world has.

@darkslayerM - trust me, I'm massively pleased that Shenmue will be returning, but there's no need to post 3 times about it. We heard you the first time.

Just don't censor this one. I'm still learning Japanese just to be able to play Yakuza 3, the proper version.... have some way to go before I'm fluent enough to get right through the game though.

A very different experience from normal U.S. games. The attention to detail in the yakuza series is unmatched. Lets just try not to censor this one; that will turn a lot of people off and hurt sells in any game that is censored.

Finished the 3rd one, so will pick this one up. The main story was great. Special mention to the 'tearless' & 'fly' track, great stuff when your kicking ass :) Thank you Sega!

Yakuza is awesome. Seriously need to get my head around some of the gambling games (which I won't even attempt to type). Beautiful stuff, Brilliant :D

I'll have to pass on this one. Sega totally lost my faith after the fiasco with the huge amount of cut content in Yakuza 3. I just can't support the series after that.

really need to finish the 3rd one lol. Hoping this isn't cut to "suit western audiences" we want it in all its japanese glory!

I don't really understand Japanese, but I loved Ryu ga Gotoku 4 when it arrived last year. That's just how good it is. Another reason to buy it: you won't get "Of the End" if this one fails to sell.

OJ_the_LION

If it's un-cut, this is a "buy" for me. I didn't buy Yakuza 3 because it was edited, but now that this is coming out I suppose I should to check it out.

I am a huge Yakuza Fan, and I am glad we are getting more. Its good to know that Sega unlike Namco with the Tales series, realizes that there is an audience here in the states for this series. Day one purchase as Yakuza 3 was for me.

Mugen76

Well, as fans we know what to do now: support the game so SEGA has no choice but to localize more Yakuza games! Yakuza 3 sold over 100,000 copies, and Yakuza 4 is supposedly even better, so it should sell at least 150,000 before SEGA makes a decision on the franchise's future.

I hope this Yakazu game does well also, so that we can get the zombie spin-off and the psp game.

Yakuza is one of those games that aren't like any other title, it's basically my "Shenmue" fix that I craved after the failure of Shenmue 2 lol

Worst narrator ever for trailer. Way to make a cool game boring. But anyway, looks good.

Hell yeah, I can't wait for March 15th and I like this narrator. "Bring a whole new meaning to the term 'motorcycle accident'" and "You'll be surfing life wearing diaper and eating through straw". Face stomping FTW.

I can't wait to see how well this game does, it looks pretty good. I also would like to see Of The End released this year too.
