Xseed bears Wii owners a Grudge

Haunted house simulator inspired by Japanese horror films set for October North American release.

Tecmo's Fatal Frame for the Wii may be out of the picture, but horror-loving North American Nintendo fans have another title to look forward to. Xseed Games today announced that it will be bringing over AQ Interactive's Ju-on: The Grudge for an October release.

Boo!

Developed by FeelPlus (which previously assisted on the development of Lost Odyssey for the Xbox 360 and Blue Dragon Plus for the DS), The Grudge is a "haunted house simulator" with an emphasis on accessibility and quick scares. As an example, while one player explores the game's dingy environments using the Wii Remote as a flashlight, a friend can grab a second controller to trigger in-game scares.

"Ju-on: The Grudge makes quick scares accessible to anyone with a Wii," said Xseed president Jun Iwasaki in a statement. "Players can even hand the Wii Remote to their mother and enjoy watching her play and get scared."

Lending the project some authenticity will be Takashi Shimizu, creator of the Ju-on series and director/writer on most of the films. Shimizu is working with the developer as a creative consultant on the Wii game.

If it's anything like the movies, you can't win. You just die. Walk in, look around, laugh at the owner's lack of style and fake potted plants, then get sucked up into the attic and turned into a ghost. The End.

Albeit, this looks like an average PS2 (graphic wise) game...I'm somewhat interested in this mainly because the Wii hasn't been shown much love for survival-horrors (as vomer stated). I love playing scary games! But if you "need" a 2nd player to have fun with this game, Ju-On is going to be reeeeal boring and not scary without a 2nd person controlling the scares. And I imagine the scares might get spammed by said 2nd player, and be really lame after so many times. I liked the original Ju-On movie. It was much better told than the US remake, which was corny and confusing. I'm really just hoping for the best for this game. I don't "want" it to be crappy.

God damn it cant they just do a game for the wii that is for gamers and isn't family related. As this clearly sounds like thats what there goin for. Nintendo are "sellouts". :(

Still waiting for a Wii survival horror game that isn't: A) Only going to be released in Japan (Fatal Frame 4) B) Resting eternally in development limbo (Sadness) C) Cancelled (Winter) D) A remake (Resident Evil 4, Silent Hill Shattered Memories, Resident Evil Archives) So was getting quite excited about this one, until I read the word "accessible" above. In Nintendo-speak, "accessible" seems to mean "a game for non-gamers". Is this game going to take two things I enjoy (survival horror and Ju-On) and turn them into something the saccharin nuclear families on the Nintendo ads would be interested in? For the love of God, is nothing sacred? I'll probably still give it a go, although I tend not to play games with my Mum.

wow, when i bought the wii, i thought that there were gonna be some kick butt games, don't get me wrong, Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Call Of Duty:WAW, and Zelda are some great games, but seriously, i didn't buy the wii 2 get freakin scared!!! this is just plain stupid

Oh that is just freakin' great. The $@%&s at Nintendo pull the plug on the MUCH anticipated Fatal Frame 4; and try to make it up by releasing some licensed movie-based game that sounds like more of an afterthought than a real title? "Player 2 can set up scares for player 1!" What, so you made it so that the players scare each other, because they didn't want to bother pre-programming scares themselves? I'm sorry; I am trying my best to be patient with Nintendo; especially since the Wii is my only next gen system; but besides Brawl and the occasional decent port; the only action my Wii has been getting is Virtual Console titles. Seriously Nintendo; wisen up. You guys used to be at the top. You are above this.

Ok, enough of the gimmick games. I'm beginning to regret buying the Wii here. They pulled the same crap with the DS - invented this cool two screen handheld and then as an afterthought, oh hey what kind of games can we make for it now? How about a real honest-to-God video game - like with dungeons, sword fights, big overworld, mysteries and puzzles to solve?

Hopefully they do a good job with this. I loved all the Ju-On and Grudge movies so I'm definitely looking forward to it.

This game is going to be good and its going to sell s***loads. I said back in 2006 (after E3) the Wii would easily become the dominant plaform - everyone ridiculed me and called me crazy and stupid. Look at them now. Anyways, I guess the negative feedback here on GS stems from the wording of the article itself, perhaps. I've been following this game when it has been reported on in other gameforums and sites. On those sites you could watch trailers and teasers - and the feedback was in stark contrast to what i'm seeing here. GS = mostly negative feedback, other sites = mostly positive feedback. Interesting.

The Grudge; quite possibly to worst movie I have ever seen. Ju-on; Very good, there was some serious issues with it becoming an American film. I see this as having some potential. I won't buy it, but I can see where it would be fun for a few. This game must be a success in Japan for them to bring it over seas. I won't flame it because I don't want to buy it.

???a friend can grab a second controller to trigger in-game scares. -- sounds lame.

And yet no Fatal Frame. A running SERIES (meaning there is an established fan base who'd buy it) with a running concept that makes player more vulnerable and subject to being messed with than in usual horror games. *SIGH*

This may be good playing through once, although i see no replay value here.

How lame... Does Nintendo think this is what Wii owners want? Make some damn games people want to play!!!! This haunted house simulator sounds retarded.

@ firehawk998 Heres what will happen ( I wish this would come true) the game will come out it will get terrible ratings and woeful feedback purely based on the fact that most movie renditions are flops. Terminator Salvation anyone? point proven. No one will buy this game, only parents who have no prior knowledge about gaming will purchase this game for their teenage son. Alot of people have bought madworld and china town wars yknow...

Heres what will happen ( I wish this would never comes true) the game will come out it will get good ratings and good user feedback. It will most likely become a hardcore classic on the Wii but its sales will be horrible. I am not a fanboy or I am making this up recent examples Madworld and GTA : China Town wars on the DS. Anyways I will still buy this thing once it comes out.

I rather have Fatal Frame 4 for the Wii. Why good games never go overseas? They released the previous games in the west and have to be a bxxxx with this one.

A horror game based on one of the scariest J-Horror films ever directed by the series director? Sounds very good to me, lets hope it's good.

to be honest here, i get fed up reading comments about wii games on here. it dont matter how great a game on the wii looks, you get people slating it before its even released. if people hate the wii so much why are they even posting comments about it. i too own all 3 consoles but cant understand why anyone says the wii does not have proper games. what is a real game exactly cos it shaw isnt just FPS'S. the wii has some great games that for some reason people have not gone out and bough ie zack and wiki, which for me was a fantastic game. all in all if you dont like the wii dont play it and stop moaning, so the people who do like it can have fun with there real games.

How come you all of a sudden speak for everyone? You call me condescending and stupid? Then you call other people "sheep", and "not our kind"? Who do you think you are? You dragging in that "I havent played my wii in ages, its collecting dust" bull**** into this discussion? I have a wii, ps3 and x360. (I live in a country where the recession is yet to manifest itself in any serious way). So I dont use my x360 couse I got tired of it dying on me all the time - so ofcource its collecting dust and have for some time. The rest of my consoles are being used just as much as the other. Btw, have you even seen some of these ignorant posts, and borderline trolls commenting on this article the very second it was posted? edit: seems the mods have been busy deleting most of those posts

nagasadow, those are sheep that pretend to be our kind. and yes, we're biased, so are you. nobody is truly unbiased, and acting condescending and stupid will NOT make us listen to you. btw, i have a wii, it hasnt been touched except during dinner parties, and even then only for like 10 mins.
