Xbox? PlayStation? We love our fans no matter what platform they play on, Bungie says

Destiny developer assures fans that it's not favoring one platform over the other.

After denying a claim last month that Bungie was partial to PlayStation over Xbox for its upcoming shooter Destiny, the developer has said again that it's not favoring one platform over the other. As part of the latest Bungie Weekly Update, a fan asked: "Just to reassure many of us, you love all your fans the same, no matter what system they play on, right?"

Bungie community manager David Dague responded, "That's right."

"You have some tough choices to make about the vessel you'll select to transport you to the world of Destiny. No matter how things end up, Bungie will love you, and we'll play with you. I have an entertainment center at home that’s bristling with modern entertainment devices to prove it," he said.

It's not too surprising that Xbox fans might think Bungie is somewhat overlooking them for Destiny. After all, Destiny was showcased at Sony's PlayStation 4 announcement event in February 2013 and then again at Sony's E3 media briefing later that year. Sony even teamed up with Bungie for a new PS4 commercial, and the beta for Destiny will begin this summer first on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.

Destiny launches September 9 for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, and PS4. It is Bungie's first multiplatform game in many years, as all recent Halo games were released only for Xbox consoles.

Also in this week's Bungie Weekly Update, the developer promised fans that they will know "well in advance" when the upcoming Destiny beta will begin. It's currently scheduled to start sometime in July, and Bungie teased that, "You'll discover more about exactly when it will be your turn to play….when we make announcements at E3. That's a promise."

"The 'when' will no longer be a mystery. Of course, we'll keep the 'where' and the 'to what extent' closer to our vests," Dague said. Overall, Bungie teased that it is spending a lot of time preparing for E3, noting that the show should be "one hell of a party."

In addition, Bungie teased that Destiny fans will get to try the game's competitive, head-to-head multiplayer mode sometime ahead of launch this September. "Hopefully, you'll be able to experience it first-hand before the game even launches," Bungie said.

This could mean that the Destiny beta will include competitive multiplayer. It could also mean that Bungie will bring Destiny on the road to public shows like Comic-Con or PAX.

Finally, Bungie said a lack of experience with Bungie's Halo games won't be detrimental to your enjoyment of Destiny.

"Absolutely not," Dague said. "Destiny is a totally new vision for Bungie. New story. New setting. New heroes. New ways to play and discover other players. For us, it’s been a next-gen exploration in every sense. There are those who loved Halo that have tried Destiny and described it as 'coming home.' We're glad to hear that, even though we still have plans to surprise them. The thing for you to remember is that you don’t have to grow up in a nice place to enjoy it once you move there."

You don't favor any platform above any other, you just like ONE (PC) less than the rest. Right???

Greedy as you may be, PC won't pay back the requirement in development dollars that you would have to put in for it to function across all PC's. Isn't that right Bungie?

"We love our fans no matter what platform they play on," Bungie says "Oh, except PC users. Those guys are weird."

The MMO Fail-boat sails again.... This game will tank faster than The Old Republic did and go F2P w/ MTs within 6 months.

I love Halo, but Destiny looks underwhelming. Especially since they added aim down the sights. That's the one thing I hoped they wouldn't do.

They must not like PC fans very much, then.

At this point Bungie just needs to shut up and deliver. I don't need any more hype, hysterics and hyperbole, I just need the game!

Any console online only game close to 15 mil copies yet? Not including sp campaign for a console title is a big mistake and not releasing on pc is an even bigger one for an online only game. They need to sell 15 mil to break even its not gonna happen.

Really, Bungie?  Because from where I sit, you definitely favor the PS4 and Sony over the XB1 and Microsoft.

It's smart to launch games in multiplatform now days... If I were a developer, I wouldn't make exclusive titles. Unless I had a visual goal set, that couldn't be reached on inferior hardware... but in this case, systems are similar... although the differences are there for sure, I would aim to release on multiplatform.

Cause after all, the more customers you have, the more money you make... plain and simple.

I'm pretty sure the Titanfall team would have made way more money releasing on PS4 as well. MS exclusive rights payment more than likely didn't compensate for the potential loss of PS4 buyers.

But exclusives keep it interesting for sure:)

Every body except the PC. I loved Halo, and Halo 2. Played them on Xbox and then later the PC. Then they didn't do Halo 3 for the PC that was probably a Microsoft decision to sell more 360's. its a shame that the only news for Destiny is at launch later this year there won't be a PC version. *sigh* maybe I'll invest in a PS4 *sigh* money that could be going into my computer or something useful like fixing my car.

Bungie talks about the new consoles like Mothers talk about their children. You have one kid in the honor roll system and one kid in and out of detention.. But I love them both the same.

I was a huge Halo 1 & 2 fan - something lost me during 3 and I've barely looked back. I will most likely get 5, but I'm not motivated. I feel the same about Destiny. Could I possibly have lost interest because it's a multiplat? Or do I not really care about Bungie as I've moved on?

Exclusive content coming to the PS4 for Destiny but nothing for Xbox One. That is ok though because Ubisoft will be bringing exclusive content for The Division on Xbox One. I love sci-fi but I think The Division will be so much better.

Bungie should treat the sony fan base as the turds they are and port destiny to PC.

Aleperez75

Im very skeptical of Destiny. It is too Halo for me. Why should I own it? To be honest it doesn't look special. It is another FPS. Let's see. I think people are too exited about it. I might understand PS owners as they will finally play a Halo like game, but other than that, I dont see all the fuss about it.

Xbots had Bungie exclusively for a decade & now that they show Sony some love you want to run crying to mummy saying "they don't love me anymore". Grow the f*ck up & #dealwithit.

@StormyJoe  Really? It's a marketing deal with Activision. It's no different than the marketing deal Activision has with MSFT for CoD or EA with Battlefield. Grow up and see through the marketing BS. You get to play Destiny, CoD, or BF no matter what console you own, despite the console logo Activision puts on the commercial or the controller they're holding on an E3 stage.

@StormyJoe  Stop crying . If they really favored the PS4 do you think this game would be on Xbox ?

PrpleTrtleBuBum
PrpleTrtleBuBum

@Sevenizz Halo 3 lost me too, because

- Expected new console to be bigger boost

- Bungie retconned the plot for the new audience and removed the whole Covenant civil war aspect

As a result through the entire game I was waiting for something big to happen, but then came the end credits and I realized that big event isn't going to happen. Once you let something like that happen (Splinter Cell Conviction, DmC) it's hard to care. Momentum is gone.

mkeezay22

@tommynj What those two things have to do with each other I will never understand, and The Division is going to be worst on X1 even if the content comes first, both it and Watch Dogs are going to struggle to keep a solid Framerate on X1 I can guarantee it.

@Aleperez75  Too excited for it? Seriously? We're not allowed to be excited? The  fu ck... Just because you don't see what all the fuss is about doesn't mean others can't be excited for it.

I'm excited for it because it looks awesome as hell to me, I don't need any other reason. I like what I've seen and heard.

People can be exited about whatever they want. They can be exited about a burger, its their choise. Im not imposing my view on others, im just saying how i feel.

So what is your point in trying to correct me?

@LucentWolf You also shush, and stop being excited about things that @Aleperez75 says you're too excited about. You'll give yourself a heart attack.

@Aleperez75  Do you have experience with anything -other- than shooters? :O Prolly burned out on them by now. I can't blame you! lol I kid, I kid. Naw, I'm a PS guy. Have been since the days of PS1 and when I got one and FFVII for Christmas one year.

But yeah, it does seem not the norm, if you actually bother looking into it. Which most don't. Sadly Gamespot does an extremely poor job of covering any news on it besides sensation articles like this to get the clicks.

LucentWolf,

Thanks for the explanation. It looks that they are trying to do something defferent. Lets hope they deliver. I'm on X1 and 360 so ive seen plenty of FPS as you might imagine, but i had my best moments playing Halo 3 and CoD4 and the original Gears of Wars, very exiting times. But after that everithing has been the same old hehe. Titanfall feels different and i appreciate that. I dont know what system are you on but if you are on X1, let me know.

LucentWolf
LucentWolf

@Aleperez75  It's a mix of open world and instances. Think kinda like WoW. It has an open-world over world and then dungeon type instances called Strikes for you and two others. Then there will be raids, which are being touted as much more difficult, that will require more people. They will also be instanced, and take significantly longer than Strikes to complete. I heard on mention of it taking about 45 minutes just to open the entrance.

The open-world aspect is similar to Journey in that other players will be handled in the background and strategically placed sort of nearish you so that it makes it seem like the world is populated but not over populated, to give it sorta of like a mm... there's people here but only a few while the rest are out being busy in other places, if that makes sense.

Aleperez75
Aleperez75

¿Is it an open world game? GTA MMO was a failure to me. I'm maybe already tired of FPS. I really like Titanfall but was not exited either before buying it, but bought it to have something to play with with my friends. I'm really looking forward DA Inquisition and The Witcher. Let's see.

brijo00
brijo00

@Aleperez75  I don't understand how someone isn't excited about this game. But that's me.

LucentWolf
LucentWolf

@Aleperez75  Mm, well.. first thing that pops out to me is the fact that they will have a team creating new content for the game daily. There will be new quests and story arcs and events literally daily and they won't always be replayable. For instance, there may be a quest one day you do, but say you didn't? Might not be there the next day. They will have a team making content like that for the next 10 years. New quests, ever-single-day. I like that.

Aleperez75
Aleperez75

LucentWolf,

Lets clarify, i'm not exited. And i dont understand why people are. But thats me. I dont see it. Some people might see it. To me is just Bungie make almost the same game as before but trying to increase profit by having a larger audience. Im not trying to convince, maybe somebody tell me something that will make me to look forward the game.

LucentWolf
LucentWolf

@Aleperez75  My point is, how can a person be too excited? That's like saying a person is too happy, or too calm. Should we all be emulating eeyore or something like 80% of the world? Ooohh.. it's all been done before, nothing matters, nothings new, nothings any good... woe is me.

nullcore

@LucentWolf  And remember: opinions are like assholes, and I've got two conflicting ones.
