Xbox One ushers in a new era as first ID@Xbox game arrives

Future-set dogfighting game Strike Suit Zero: Director's Cut now available to download for $20.

by

April 8, 2014. That's the day we'll look back on as the day on which Microsoft ushered in a new era for the Xbox One, launching the first game through its indie self-publishing program, ID@Xbox.

The first ID@Xbox game is Born Ready Games' dogfighting game Strike Suit Zero: Director's Cut, available to buy today for $20. Set in the year 2299, Strike Suit Zero: Director's Cut has players controlling a transformable "Strike Suit" which you'll need to use effectively to save Earth from destruction.

Strike Suit Zero: Director's Cut features 13 total missions and six craft, including three Strike Suits. You can also upgrade your Strike Suit and customize your weapon load-outs. You can read more about the game on the Xbox Wire.

If you're in the Boston area this week, you can play Strike Suit Zero: Director's Cut at Microsoft's pre-PAX East meetup at the Natick Mall in Natick, Mass. Strike Suit Zero: Director's Cut is one of the 25 ID@Xbox games for Xbox One that Microsoft announced last month.

Downloaded it yesterday. It's quite a decent game and well worth the money. Wish it had multiplayer though.

It's $20 dollars on xbox one and $15 dollars on ps4 if you have plus and not sure how much it is on steam it's not a bad game at all.

But is the game good. That is the real question. Inde games are fine but they have to be good!

I don't know. Is this a self-defeating move?  Xbox One fans are always quick to point out how independent games are a waste of time, worthless.  Oh wait.

*sigh*

The Japanese just couldn't keep it a space flight sim and had to introduce elements of Gundam in there.

No mention of it being on PS4? How much are you being paid by M$, Eddie?

Meanwhile, it's been known for a while that a Battlestar Galactica writer has been working closely with Sony Santa Monica's God of War team for nearly three years, and they are working on a new IP.

Not a peep from XboneSpot.

There, did some work for your journalists. Now tell us more and what is going on currently with Shadow of the Beast remake

"Microsoft ushered in a new era for the Xbox One," dang it's only been out for 5 months, and it's already in a new era? Guess it goes to show just how bad the Xbone really is...

It has a PS3 version, I'll check it out.  I'm in need of a great PS3 title to hold me over until Gundam Side Stories.

That Infact looks like a good Indiegame. im not a Fan on Indie games at all but I might get that one. Im just kinda on the Fence about the Price. It is was 10 dollars than sure but 20 ? damn. but ill probably get it anyways.

Coming from the company that literally introduced the indie scene to console gaming, it's unfortunate that it has since lost it's way. Let's hope that this initiative is a return to form for the Xbox.

Usher in a new era?

Seriously?

@phiphthvyoo  I think it's more a case of XB1 fans pointing out that PS4's upcoming release slate is sooooo indie-heavy.  Sony's roster of first-party exclusives is pretty thin so they're bending over backward catering to the indies.  Now that Infamous is out, about all Sony has in the pipeline for the rest of 2014 is MLB The Show (excellent but limited appeal) and The Order.  Driveclub is MIA.  Uncharted is a long way off.

That said, I agree with the other responders...over time its nearly impossible to separate indie junk from worthwhile downloads.  Unless you're really a hardcore gamer who seeks this stuff out, it's not even worth the time to browse an indie marketplace.

@phiphthvyoo

XBLA pioneered console indie games. Minecraft 360 just passed 12 million. Xbox fans love indie games.

If it's a good game, it's a good game. But 95% of indie games are shit. The 360 had an "indie" section of games and I bought 3 in 8yrs. Steam is littered with trash games, making it difficult to find anything decent. As long as Microsoft retains a level of quality, and doesn't allow any old pos on there, it should be ok.

@Hayasmez I need a lawyer, I just slipped and fell on Hayasmez's carelessly discarded tears.

@Hayasmez It's about the first indie games arriving on the xbox one... It's not purely about that game

@The-Neon-Seal I actually had a Robotech game. There was a level called Cat Scan that was nearly impossible..

@Skrilla_XS  And mostly got horrible reviews too; it'll need a massive overhaul to be much good. To quote Eurogamer; "I wouldn't give Strike Suit Zero to my dog - and he can't even play video games." 3/10.

@jako998 That screenshot above got me interested and I rarely see a indie game that  I get interested in.

See: D3's Simple Series label, and Sony's Net Yaroze system.

Microsoft certainly did it very well, but were by no means treading on new ground.

I have all three when it's a single player game I just buy it on what ever system it's cheaper must of the time it's steam. But for multiplayer games I buy it on what ever system I have friends that is gonna be playin it also. I have call of duty ghost on all three because I have friends on all three that play it.

@Carpetfluff It did get a massive overhaul.  It's still punishingly difficult.  (And, seriously, using Eurogamer as an example?  Really?)

@eternal_napalm It seems like they only use the Xbone as a troll fest and it's been working for almost a year now. There's rarely anything bad about the PS4 on here, however there's also not that much news in general on it. So everyday pretty much looks like this: MS troll article, MS troll article, MS troll article, MS troll article, the PS4 is about to launch this really cool feature!, MS troll article, MS troll article.

Carpetfluff
Carpetfluff

@_Silent_Jay_ @Carpetfluff  It was just the first quote I remembered reading, but it did get some stinkers review wise. There were one or two decent ones. Just giving people the heads up to maybe research it a bit before stumping up just ;cos it's something new to play. We haven't had many of these lately and I can see why people would be interested but if it gets old as fast as the PC version did...well...
