The Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of acclaimed indie adventure game Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons will launch on August 12 through digital channels. A physical release in Europe will follow on September 4, though plans for a physical version in the United States have not been announced.

A Tale of Two Sons for Xbox One and PS4 comes with additional content not found in the original game, including a Director's commentary, a soundtrack, and various art galleries.

The game was first released for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC in 2013. The game places players in control of two brothers, with each one mapped to the two thumbsticks on a controller.

The pair must journey to the Tree of Life and acquire its water to save their sick father. A Tale of Two Sons received critical acclaim for its emotionally charged narrative, exhilarating platforming, and challenging puzzle design. GameSpot's A Tale of Two Sons review awarded the game an 8/10.

"Sure, the puzzles are suitably challenging and mighty clever in places, and the imposing environments are beautifully realised, but it's all there to build those emotional ties, and create moments that hit you right in the pit of your stomach," said our reviewer.

"Brevity is the only real misstep here, and you can't help but feel that with a little more time to build up the characters those emotional highs would have an even greater impact. But it's not enough to detract from what is a great achievement: an ambitious, emotionally affecting adventure that's short, but oh so sweet."

A mobile version of A Tale of Two Sons is also in development and is scheduled to launch this summer for iOS and Android devices.

A Tale of Two Sons was created by Swedish filmmaker Josef Fares. His next game, which sounds very interesting, will be published by Electronic Arts.
