Xbox One policy changes will not affect 2014 release date for Asia

Microsoft has no official comment on whether original policy has anything to do with late release window in region; or whether new policy changes will bump up release window.

Microsoft has confirmed to GameSpot that the Asia launch window for the Xbox One will still remain at "late 2014", despite the recent DRM policy change for the device.

The company has no new comments on the Asia launch date at this point in time, which includes countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, and Hong Kong. Last week, Microsoft said the Xbox One would launch in the region in late 2014, but it is unknown whether the previous online policy set by the company had was a factor in the delayed roll out for Asia. 21 countries will be selling the device in November this year, including the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, and more.

Will the Xbox One be out earlier in Asia, now that there's no DRM of sorts?

Microsoft recently revised its online policy for the Xbox One console, stating that it will remove used game restrictions, 24-hour online check-ins, and region-locks. The console will be available for $500.

So basically MS is giving Sony one year to sell all of Asia PS4s with no other console to compete with it...I see how that is smart. :/

Well release windows are always dodgy... We didn't get the PS3 in the UK until 6 or so months after launch.. I doubt it'll hit "late" 2014 though.. Sounds a bit extreme

They didn't change their consumer-rights violating policies for the good of gamers, they only changed it for the fact that Sony were RAPING them. bet you if Sony adopted the same policies they would've still stuck to them cause M$ don't give a shit about their loyal fans..

Late 2014 for Asia? I don't think so. MS won't sell as many units as they would like to, so the Asian window will eventually shift to mid or even beginning of 2014. Better put them on store shelves than keep them in big warehouses to rot..not that I'd care about the launch window anyway, as I'm not getting one..

Great. Way to go Microsoft! Even in this day and age you deprive asia of your product. PS4 here i come!

It's not all great news now that the Xbox One's horrible DRM policies have found a quick grave. Since they basically provided the foundation for much of what the Xbox One allowed people to do, the positive aspects had to go as well...for some unknown reason. This means the Family Sharing program -which allowed you to set 10 other people as 'family members' who would then have access to your entire game library- is now gone - See more at: http://4playernetwork.com/blog/2013/06/xbone-drm-is-gone-but-family-sharing-goes-with-it/#sthash.mD3zxJy3.dpuf

And you were so confident on your product, your policies, why change it MS?

Felling the pressure?

I can think of 2 reasons why Xbone will be late for Asia.

1. There aren't enough servers on Microscam to cover the entire region.

2. There aren't enough Xbones in production.

The server thing could be of concern since it was originally intended to handle all the 24 hour check ins and all. Now Microscam changed their policy but not going to release worldwide. They want to control those 21 region first and probably (Worst case scenario), when enough people have bought Xbone, Microscam will change back to 24 hour check and all. That's what I'm thinking and knowing how they operate, it probably will happen.

To summarize, ITS A TRAP.

in my opinion, if they will drop the price and backward compatibility of games, they will have a shot to ps4.

@xeoneex66 Nah, they should call it Xbox 180 ;) After the 180 degreee turn they just did ;)

@xeoneex66 Dude the policy reversal puts the Xbox One in a pivotal position. The only thing that made me want a ps4 was my loyalty to Sony, Xbox1's 24hr online and no sharing. once the last two issues have been sorted out I'm tempted to go for xbox1. Why? Cos MS has the money to reduce the number of Sony 's exclusive tittles. Who would've thought Metal Gear Solid would come to the Xbox?

@daviz88 In business you concentrate on the area loyal to you and try to make inroads in other ares. MS is assured of good sales in America so they need to satisfy consumers there b4 tackling obstacles in Asia. They are aware Asia is one tough nut to crack. Asian consumers are not as willing to try new things coming from the west as Americans are of things coming from elsewhere. It'll be difficult to succeed in asia especially Japan. If Ms is going to succeed in japan they need to team up with local developers there who would make games that would appeal to Japanese gamers. People see the xbox as an American console

@SemoSpot I think you are right there. Kudos to SONY 4 putting MS in check. Only now the competition is going to be fiercer than it would 've been had MS stuck to their 24hr online/ no game share policy

@AkshayTheJedi Sony keep saying it's a worldwide launch. Though it's worth noting that Sony is an asian company, so it would be highly improbable for them to not launch in asia.

Xraycat87

@berserker66666 In my opinion I'd imagine it's due to 90% of their market share being away from Asia, therefor rather then face stock shortages over all 3 markets, delay one and concentrate on the majority... Damage limitation basically.

I'm sure what they'll bring in the future will make people who bought a PS4 happy that they got the system that they did.

xeoneex66

@sprocket876 @xeoneex66 That would imply people would want to buy the system...  I still wont support this crap until they get rid of SPYnect.

@NTenseify @sergie23 Yeah they showed themselves when they didn't rally to have policy changes like the core gamers did. They are the reason all of this shit happened in the first place. Microsoft proved that there are just blind loyalist in the world that will be so brand loyal regardless of the shit you put in their face. Now they aren't as ashamed to show their faces after these announcements. However for every guy now saying PRO Xbox Pro Microsoft I can at least see what type of gamer they are and what morals they have. better they aren't hidden and transparent, so when shit hits the fan again I know where to look and who to blame.

xeoneex66
xeoneex66

@sprocket876 @xeoneex66 Wow.. As...informative as that is, it's not the point.  Why should I spend money on a peripheral I have absolutely no desire for.  It should not be "required".  I would rather buy the system for say $400 instead of $500, and not have a spy device that I have to cover just so I can get a system, that I dont have much care for?

@crazy-roman @jaymo1978 @barkof @xeoneex66 Metal Gear Rising was *NOT* a Metal Gear Solid game. The development team has been VERY vocal about it, yet there seems to still be confusion.  The omission of "Solid" in the title was intended to indicate that it is a different type of game and should not be confused with the numbered series.  Clearly, they failed.  Also, that game looks like a steaming pile of crap.

crazy-roman
crazy-roman

@jaymo1978 @crazy-roman @barkof @xeoneex66 I meant as in, a MGS game has been released before on an XBOX not as in, before the Sony console. However MGS Rising was released on both consoles at the same time. Also MGS2:Substance may have been released on the original XBOX before the PS2.

jaymo1978
jaymo1978

@crazy-roman @barkof @xeoneex66 Actually, crazy-roman, MGS only released on Xbox 360 MUCH later than on PS4, and only the early versions of the game. MGS3 and 4 have still never released on 360. The Phantom Pain marks the first Metal Gear game that will release on both systems, either simultaneously or after a minimal exclusivity period.

@R2C25 @NTenseify @sergie23 How is it a better product? Launch line up? I was sure a lot of those games are not launch titles... plus Sony have more exlcusives due out in the first year and more exclusives. Also a vast range of indie games to back those up. Killer instinct, is that the one with one playable character and the rest needing to be paid for?

+

-no indie support

-non upgradeable hard drive

-they dropped the whole family share and cloud gaming plan

PS4 is still much better, also I wouldn't trust MS so easily after all the arrogant shit they've been constantly been pulling for the last month

@R2C25 @NTenseify @sergie23

X1 has the weaker hardwares, (I agree about the controller, but that is purely opinion based) they have more launch exclusives (again, games are purely opinion based.)

Playstation plus is cheaper and offers more than Xbox Live Gold does.

Xbox still has a few flaws to work out such as the mandatory kinect. Once they drop the rest of the things the majority of their customers take issue with, then they will be on even ground with the PS4.
