Xbox One Now Supports Pre-Loading

Long-awaited feature rolls out today with Madden NFL 15.

The Xbox One now supports pre-loading for digital games, and Microsoft has delivered the feature ahead of schedule. At Gamescom, Microsoft announced that pre-purchasing and pre-loading would begin on Xbox One with FIFA 15 (September 26) and Forza Horizon 2 (September 30). But in fact, the feature is available today with Madden NFL 15. If you pre-purchase the game today through Xbox One you can pre-load the game so you can start playing exactly at midnight on August 26.

Though Madden NFL 15 doesn't officially launch until next week, EA Access subscribers can play it today--albeit only for 6 hours. In addition, if you're an Access member, you'll save 10 percent on the full Madden NFL 15 game, meaning you can pick it up for around $54 instead of $60.

Sony introduced pre-loading support for PlayStation 4 back in June.

Concerning other new digital features for the Xbox One, Microsoft says it has not abandoned its ambitions to bring back family sharing, but digital game and DLC gifting is less likely to happen.

At launch, Madden NFL 15 will be available for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4. If you're looking to upgrade to an Xbox One, Microsoft and EA Sports have teamed up for a special Madden NFL 15 bundle that includes a system and a copy of the game for $399.

Great news for the Xbox one owners. Thought it was silly that it wasn't an option before to be honest.

I never use the feature on my PS4 but it's great to see the feature there for those that use the digital release. With current technology there wasn't any reason the xbox one couldn't.

As a owner of both day one ps4 and Xbox one I prefer my Xbox one by far over the ps4. The ps4 just feels cold and sterile. I think I've turned my ps4 on once in the past 2 months. Microsoft means business with all the monthly updates. All of the sony fan boys pretty much show who's playing games on the psn. Little immature boys.. I am a gamer fan boy and I tell it how it is.

Great idea but have you seen the price of the games on the market place some times there like £10-£15 more expensive than game, amazon and so on.

So untill they stop ripping you of on digital downloads count me out.

Glad this is rolling out before all the games this Fall.

Competition is a wonderful thing. Good to see these console makers answering each other's options with similarities. It's good for us as gamers.

Great news for people with sub-par internet connections. It is handy being able to download before hand and either get a head start if you have really bad internet or know it will be definitely sat waiting for you when you wake up the next day.

Much better than waiting for Midnight and then having to download first.

So you have to buy the game top-dollar from Microsoft to preload instead of cheaper anywhere else? Cool feature. Not. I think I'll just buy stuff from stores and use the installation time to enjoy extra sandwiches and reading about the crazy antics of the Kardashians in Star while sitting on the toilet.

What's wrong with the guy in the screenshot? Is he black, white, or a freaking Frankenstein?

Been there since 2004 when Half-Life 2 launched :P Honestly you PS fans should be equally ashamed of this too instead of picking up no rival consoles like that.

Why are people so obsessed with having the game on that first day. Let others play first and report the bugs, then you go and play it. Stupid as.

BTW considering how many Xbox fans are on PS4 articles its nice to see Sony fans not intruding in comments section ;)

You have proved that you yourself are just an immature Xbox fan.

You started out with a legitimate point that you make more use of Xbox One but you shoot yourself in the foot by insulting a group of people who includen: (1) those don't care about social media aspect of gaming consoles; (2) aren't children; (3) aren't "boys" ; and (4) those that play games they love regardless of console but please primarily chose the ps4 over the xbox one as you have done the opposite.

I honestly don't care if anyone prefers the other system. I'm enjoying mine from it is where all my games are. When the xbox one offers something I am interested in the, like I bought n Xbox360, I will buy one.

Here, I'll help you out..."I am a flamer fan boy and I tell it how I think it is."

alightningboldt

@ritzwill. It's the exact same story with me. My Xbox one is getting much more use than my ps4. Not only because of the media and convenience capabilities, but also the games have been more fun so far imo. I adopted the ps4 on day one, and I have to say, I'm disappointed in Sony so far. 2015 should hopefully even out the games. Xbox one is The better console overall in my opinion as well. The ps4 has the 20-40% power advantage but I'm only seeing about 5% difference in the real world (digital foundry be damned, if I don't notice it then it doesn't matter to me). Maybe in the future the ps4 will show its advantage more. However I think the Xbox one is crushing in the features department as well as support. Despite what the haters think, those features actually make a big difference

cvantu

@crunchb3rry  except my games are cut in half price wise since there are two Xbox One's in my home. I buy one copy and both consoles can play the game at the same time. Now I can get my "2 copies for the price of 1" even earlier than going to the store. It's an all win for me.

Dannystaples14
Dannystaples14

@crunchb3rry What the hell has price got to do with it? The feature is for people who WANT to download digitally and want the game downloaded before it goes live at midnight on release day. What is wrong with that?

If you don't want to download from the Microsoft Store then this isn't for you in the first place.

Dannystaples14
Dannystaples14

@WolfgarTheQuiet Their obsession doesn't hurt you though does it? If people want a game day one for more cost that is their problem but pre-loading is still a great feature in that case.

My comment is also in error, the Bundle on Xbox Live only includes 11 Pro Packs, not 30 like the retail Ultimate version.

You're right. The majority of ps4 owners aren't like the forum troll ps4 fan boys. But as a owner of every PS console I will say the ps4 disappoints ME the most. And the blind hatred by Xbox owners and Sony owners is beyond frustrating. If you don't own both you really cant base your opinion on anything. I will say a lot more people I've spoken with who own both say they prefer the Xbox one. I'm a manager for a large electronics retailer and I speak to people about consoles every day. ;)

@saltlife225 @Kinguard73  No, remember, the countless of things that the Xbox One does that the PS4 cannot, are not important? We should only focus on what the PS4 already had, and every feature it has is the greatest new thing to ever come out. Nobody cares about Skype, motion controls, snapping apps, activity feeds, one drive storage, DLNA, audio CD support, media player, QR scanning abilities, Smartglass, TV support/streaming TV to devices, external hard drive support, and whatever other things I am forgetting. We want features like...streaming our console games to a failing portable device because our parents/wife/girlfriend want to hog the TV. We want to rent old games for insane prices. Those are real features that only real gamers want.

How are you getting a day one game for more cost because the last time I checked its all the same price rather you buy it at the store or preorder it online.

@WolfgarTheQuiet @Bazongaman502 For any true gamer, game play should always be at the top of the list accompanied by story then graphics....but.... graphics do matter and are the reason we have generational jumps in consoles.

Sevenizz

So, neither of our midnights? Why?

I actually miss standing on line at a game store. When no one had an original Xbox and Halo 2 came out - seeing like minded gamers was really fun. Now, there wasn't even a midnight launch anywhere by me - and that's arguebly the biggest game so far for the One. Although, the console launch at midnight was fun - but sadly we won't see another midnight launch till Xbox One 2(?) launches.

ima_flyguy

Most of that stuff no one uses is connected to the massive overpriced kinect spy camera that was ditched by Microsoft because ...... oh yeah no one wants any of that stuff they just want POWER!! ps4 ps4 ps4 ps4. Also ps4 actually does most of that stuff but no one cares it's about games.

PixelAddict

@cvantu Wide-sweeping generalizations are always false.

Consoles aren't as simple as they were 15 years ago. Or even 10 years ago. Because even "real" gamers use Netflix or streaming services once in awhile. "Real" gamers don't game 24/7.

A modern console needs to have the capability of doing most everything, even if it is not the only gadget we all use. A modern console needs to offer options, even if we do not use them.

@Greyfox-101 @n3rdy909 graphics are actually much better, I'm expecting next year to have much better graphics as well.  Overall it's not like an amazing change but the game  is clearly a step up from madden 25

alightningboldt

@ima_flyguy. I Have both of the cameras. Kinect is way better, it's no contest. The ps4 camera is about as good as Kinect 360. As for power, I'm not seeing much of a difference at this point. Especially not a supposed 20-50% power difference. Ryse is still the best looking game on either console and that was a launch game. Maybe in the future it will show its power. As for games, I'm enjoying my Xbox one games more than ps4, but that is subjective. I don't think anyone can say one console has better games than the other. That is based on personal preferences.both consoles have great looking games and great playing games. Gaming is even between the consoles, but Xbox has much better non gaming capabilities, making it the better of the two consoles so far. Hopefully Sony can step up their game and stop sitting back while they ride their hype train.
