Xbox One gets Verizon live TV app featuring 74 channels but requires Gold subscription

Free app also features Kinect controls and allows you to watch two things at once via Snap multitasking feature.

A free Verizon FiOS TV app is now available on Xbox Live, but you'll need subscriptions to Xbox Live Gold and Verizon to make use of it. The same is true for the existing Xbox 360 Verizon FiOS TV app.

Users can stream up to 74 live channels (the exact number depends on your subscription package) through the Xbox One using the app, which also features Kinect voice and gesture controls.

Since the Xbox One already allows you to patch through your cable feed directly to the system, you might wonder why you'd need to download the app at all.

Verizon says one benefit is you'll be able to stream two video feeds at once using the Snap feature. The benefits for sports fans is obvious: watching two games at once, but this also works for any other live programming.

DEAR SONY,

Can you guys STEP UP and introduce some new APPS? I think it's time. Oooo and if you can please include ESPN, I mean even the xbox 360 had it. Thank you. Why ESPN? Because it broadcasted so many games live that they didn't on my actual tv.

I'm playing NBA 2K14 while watching a live NBA game at the exact same time, I love the XBOX ONE's snap features

That's cool, but Verizon FIOS isn't in my area yet. They told me like 6 years ago that it was coming to Arizona, but I haven't seen it anywhere yet. Already a gold member, so that isn't an issue.

Yeah that's great and all but.............

Where is my iPlayer and Blinkbox????

Of course it requires a gold membership. Damn. How many times are they going to state the obvious. 50 million people are gold members. That translates into success. Get over it. I know people on gold member status that never paid a dime.

Is this available to everyone or just people in the US?

I don't have cable but I watch soccer matches on ESPN and Univision app. Pretty good deal to me.

I can't wait to download this app when I get home.  This is good news for me. We have Verizon cable but doesn't have an extra cable box for my room. Now I can watch live shows in my room.

Wow awesome.  I have no other way to watch tv shows.  Now I only need Live and Verizon both.  What a deal.

Yet another feature that the ps4 doesn't have. LOL enjoy paying $400 for your "new" current gen console that can only play mediocre games.

Someone finally needs to produce an a la carte cable system. Then I'll buy in to these providers.

So with this amazing feature (and providing I pay extra for Live to access it) I can watch TV on my TV

mind = blown

Of course as with so many globally advertised features, it would be USA only?

Or you could just subscribe to Verizon and not use the Microsoft middle man, saving some cash

rather than sitting down and watching two sports games at once, you might want to try and go out and do some actual sports instead, or hit the gym, put on some running shoes whatever, anything to get you up and off that couch, better for your health in the long run...

A Free App where you gotta pay to use it.

Good Job.

What possible reason could you have for wanting to watch two different things at the same time? THIS IS CARZY!

Wait, so is this cheaper than my DirectTV subscription or what? :P

Are those 74 channels any good or just mostly crap I can do without like my DirectTV subscription? :P

@19James89 well based from my understanding you need to have the 'Verizon' account so... I guess only Verizon US subscriber.

@xbox_owns_slavestation4 You troll.  Everyone already have a TV, no need to add a "feature" to get the same thing.  =)

@Avenger1324 Maybe it will have channels you don't already subscribe to? maybe it will have on demand stuff like amazon or netflix.. or maybe it will be useful for people that don't have a cable box in a second bedroom and aren't paying a separate monthly fee for the additional box. I can see it being beneficial to a certain group of people.

@northArrowYou have to subscribe to Verizon also. Did you not read the article? Save what cash? You mean for a gold subscription? What are you doing with an Xbox & not paying for a gold subscription in the first place? Do you even own an Xbox?

Rayzakk

@Jawehawk-DK I haven't noticed enough quality programming recently that required me to even watch one show, let alone two at once.

Rayzakk

@Fursnake Perhaps it's like directv or dish network where like 50 of them are music channels.

@RainIsMyDrugActually, it's more like renting a mailbox at the post office, you pay an annual fee and then you get to pickup your mail as much as you like during that year...unfortunately, though, you have made it easier for them to send you junk mail, since they don't have to drive out to your house to give it to you any more.

wookiegr
wookiegr

@RainIsMyDrug Actually, I don't know what country you are in but in America you have to pay every year to use your car through a mystical renewal system, a sticker you put on your plates. It's a different color each year so that's nice... So your analogy is based in reality and at all sarcastic.

OmegaGear

@doggiezilla @dmastor No it isn't. Xfinity is comcast. Verizon is FiOS. They've been two of the biggest battlers when it comes to digital telecomm in the US.

@niknokseyer @19James89 Dafuq? The only reason to get a XB1 is if you're a Yankee, I'm getting a PS4, Microsoft can shove the XB1 up their ****

northArrow

Registration is a tax and not a renewal. Your car can still run without registration and it's not administered by the dealership.

Though maybe a more satisfying analogy for you would be GM sending me a bill every time I used a drive thru?

@nyzma23 @19James89 I don't know about the others, but Netflix is also Canada. I would imagine that each region has its own streaming service deals. I can excuse MS for its possible blindness, but at the least, Sony should have been smart enough to secure streaming for its home country on the PS3/4.

19James89
19James89

@nyzma23 @19James89 So all the apps on the Xbox One are geared towards the American market and yet their shifting this console across the globe? Dafuq is that all about? Nah I'm gonna go for a PS4 in 2015 when the new slimmer version comes out.

@19James89 why so much negativity ,it's nothing new hulu, netflix and amazon is also us only and you should blame verizon not ms
