Following the news of a Kinect-free option for Xbox One, we rounded up what you can't play without much-maligned accessory.

Microsoft announced a price drop for the Xbox One today, but that comes at the expense of the Kinect. Love it or hate it, there are some games and features you can only experience with the camera accessory.

Here are the games that are completely unplayable without Kinect:

Upcoming games that will likely be unplayable:

And here are some of the games that make use of Kinect, but you can still play with a standard controller:

They should call this "Games not worth playing."  Microsoft dropping Kinnect is a reason why I'll probably buy an XBOX One eventually.

Upcoming games like FRU and D4 are worth mentioning.

The list of games unplayable without Kinect proves removing the device from Xbox One isn't a great loss.

it's not a total lose just do a kinect bundle or possibly when more kinect games emerge do a kinect games collection- camera plus two games or something, that way it covers bases, you have the kinect already that came with the box so here's the stand alone game, if you want the games then here's that game with the kinect so it works out cheaper then actually buying the kinect and the game as two separate purchase because let's face it...

hyperfetcily you go to shop spend 400 on the console and want the kinect because of a particular game, game will cost somewhere in the 40-60 region then a camera lets say around 50-80 so before you know it you may actually be paying more then expected depending on prices/ offers then just geting the original set up at 500 .... I think in the long geting the kinect separate price tag right is highly important, so that you don't end up paying more then the original 500 which would defeat the purpose of removing it....

when I got my ps4 back in jan this was my set up console with killzone 400 and brought the camera at the same time, then add the cost of a 3 month ps+ in total around 470. the price for the separate kinect has to show it was worth it and not paying over the original 500

for those that will never buy it sound for those that do let's hope they don't screw you over on prices, which all ms seems to be doing at the moment, if they truly listened to fans feed back, all those months before the actual launch then all this wouldn't be an issue....

Wii U and Xbox One are exactly in the same boat:

step 1: bundle your new console with a overpriced gimmicky peripheral. [kinect/gamepad]

step 2: release no good games that make use of said device, making it look like a joke

step 3: watch abysmal sales of your console

step 4: get rid off the damn thing to reduce price and hope for more sales

Microsoft seems to be one step ahead of Nintendo though.

This should be titled, "Xbox One games most people don't care to play." I'm not slamming Xbox One. I'm slamming the silly Kinect.

So basically, you can't play Kinect games without a Kinect?  Where's the Xbox 360 version of this article?  I'm not sure which of my games require Kinect.

Some of those games like zoo tycoon have features that you have to use the Kinect with ...so the game is indeed unplayable....jackasses.

... it is not he games I would be worried about but the voice recognition and hand control you lose if your xbox 1 does't have Kinect.

When I eventually bite the bullet and buy my next gen systems ill be getting an xbox 1 with kinect so I can utilize it to its full potential.  They need to release good games on both systems first though...

There are no Kinect games, just pathetic excuses for inclusion of an otherwise pointless peripheral.

Huhh... it was a long list... That's exactly why we don't need kinect. M$ pushed the technology with nooo games at all.

After I read this article I stopped to think.. "What games have I purchased for my Kinect?"... The answer is zero... I've owned both Kinects from their launch and the only game I played on them were the ones that came with it... Dance Central is a good game... That I must admit.. But I can't see anything I would consider "Core Gaming" to be a catch.. That list of games that can use Kinect is the only way I see Kinect really going forward.. Things like Oculus Rift or AR technology may make it more purposeful

I saw this move coming a mile away.  Should have done this at the beginning, they would've sold a hell of a lot more.

meh, all the games on the "Can't play without kinect" list aren't all that great anyways. I would say no loss there.

Microsoft corporate meeting:--- "So People, just what are we going to do with all these Kinect 2.0's??" Just then a Timid hand begins to rise amongst the crowd.. "Yes, Poindexter  what is your proposal??",Say's the Chairman. Then a shakey voice squeeks out "How about "Microsoft Surface 3.0 now with Kinect"!! Needless to say he is met with Thunderous Applause!!

Curious how no one has mentioned Microsoft's blunder last year... "Sherman" Set the way back machine for last May when Microsoft in all of its greedy wisdom had a Locked up DRM System with the XB1 and Kinect Spyware like programing (linked to the NSA)..that was going to be live 24/7. Then after the Boo-ing at E3 back peddled and lied about how that was never their intention. OMG Microsoft seemed to have been drunk at the same party Nintendo attended. In fairness my Kinect 2.0 does do something very well ...."Xbox Turn off"!!

DAMN IT...................I didn't need a kinect after all.

Kinect will always be improved and pushed. Even those who don't buy it initially will see the value and get it later.

@zircon001 I appreciate that you gave it the old "college try" with these last 3 comments, but they fell very flat. Keep practicing.

@trfe TRFE, the Kinect is NOT a new device. Nintendo has been tinkering with motion control for well over 20 years. The sad thing is, no one, not Nintendo, not Sony, not Microsoft, will ever do motion controls properly. For one simple reason: all three want to base an entire console, and a library of games, AROUND motion control. They don't want all that money to go into something just to work alongside a controller. But, there will not be a more economic and ergonomic ability to play games on a TV set than a controller. Maybe if VR takes off, motion control could work better. But until then, the controller is where it's going to stay.

Nope. This generation is roughly what? 8 years? I can't even imagine how good kinect is going to get in the next year or two let alone the next 3-5 years. Remember how much the 360 changed each year? I see about the same thing for kinect, new features, better recognition, and probably even a few great games.

@am_h8ter_ade @shinjuki@snaketusI actually cannot name anything that a PC offers that warrants $300 or more in additional cost (and even more to keep the hardware up-to-date enough to play whatever the next new game is). The internet, maybe? Except consoles can do that too now (granted, not as well, but they can), as can your smartphone or tablet if you happen to have either of those (I don't). I suppose I could build my own games and mod, but I'm too lazy (read as: busy playing games) to do that even if I could. Same goes for making movies, producing music, or pretty much anything. Really, console gaming is just more practical. Instead of spending $700 and up on a gaming PC, spend your $400 on a console, and get a cheap computer for your non-gaming needs that'll cost you less than the difference.

jadaski1
jadaski1

@shinjuki @am_h8ter_ade@snaketus  It's about $300 for a simple, non-gaming PC.  The gaming components themselves would cost about $400 dollars extra.  In other words, the gaming aspect of a gaming PC is about as much as a console, and you get better components than a console.

A couple days ago, I watched twitch.tv while simultaneously playing SC2 and then Sword of the Stars: the Pit.  Also, I was able to quickly look up wiki info on the pit without leaving the game.  The current gen has only begun to dip into the multitasking options that have been PC standard for ages, and I'd like to see your console burn dvds, maintain spreadsheets, or hell, run anything that is not a game or a Netflix type app.

@shinjuki @naruto945 @Talavaj  couldnt that be done without the connect just move th controller away from your body include a lil sensor bar like wii if its that serious but that doesnt make DR3 fun
