Xbox One controllers will eventually work on PC, rumors to the contrary are "100% wrong"
Microsoft's Albert Penello says when the drivers become available, the Xbox One controller you already own will work on PC.
Reports that Xbox One controllers will not work on PC are flat-out wrong, Microsoft director of product planning Albert Penello said in a post on NeoGAF. He said when the drivers do become available (there's no word on when this will be), you will not need to buy a separate controller.
"This is 100% wrong," Penello said about the rumors. "When the drivers become available, they will work with the existing controllers. There is no plan to do a new, separate controller that only works on Windows. The Xbox One controller you have today will work."
"It will be the same as it is on Xbox 360," Penello added.
Though you won't need to buy a separate Xbox One controller to play on PC, Penello said Microsoft might one day release a special PC-specific Xbox One controller, just as the company offers today for the Xbox 360.
Though Microsoft has yet to release the drivers that will allow your Xbox One controller to work on PC, one enterprising modder has found an (unofficial) way to make it work.
