Xbox One and PC Cross-Buy Will Be "Platform Feature," Says Phil Spencer

Microsoft is aiming to make Cross-Buy and Cross-Save functionality between Xbox One and Windows 10 a core pillar of its gaming business, according Xbox boss Phil Spencer.

On February 11, Cross-Buy and Cross-Save support was announced for Quantum Break, the upcoming shooter from Max Payne and Alan Wake developer Remedy Entertainment, which is published by Microsoft. Spencer was asked on Twitter if he expects to see third-party games support these features too.

"We'll make it a platform feature," he replied. "We think it's good for gamers."

Although Spencer indicated he wants to introduce these features at a system level, there is no guarantee third-party developers and publishers will support them.

Sony introduced Cross-Buy and Cross-Save support across PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita since 2012. Recent releases such as Crypt of the Necrodancer, A Boy and His Blob, and Nuclear Throne can all be purchased on one of the two platforms, then unlocked for free on the other.

In addition to Quantum Break, Microsoft also plans to make a number of other high-profile Xbox One games available on PC, including ReCore, Sea of Thieves and Fable Legends.

Those that pre-order the digital version of Quantum Break for Xbox One will get a free copy of the Windows 10 edition. According to Remedy it is developing the PC version in-house.
