Xbox Live Marketplace rebranded Xbox Games Store

Virtual store gets new name ahead of Xbox One launch in November.

by

The Xbox Live Marketplace will henceforth be known as the Xbox Games Store, a Microsoft representative confirmed with Joystiq following the branding change going live online.

The name change comes ahead of the Xbox One launch in November.

"That's right, [Xbox Live Marketplace] is now called the Xbox Games Store, and will sit alongside the Xbox Music Store and Xbox Video Store," the Microsoft representative said. "This is to make it easier for consumers to find content both on Xbox 360 today and Xbox One when it launches in November."

Earlier this month, a patch on Xbox 360 brought an end to the Microsoft Points virtual currency system, replacing the controversial currency with real-money equivalents.

But if you don't like Xbox Game Store and complain enough maybe they will change it just like they have changed everything else.

I personally think they should have just called it Xbox Marketplace.

trying to be "next generation" by renaming things?

Marketplace was a good name because it included video and music as well.  It also is a better name, seems kind of an arbitrary thing to do honestly. But i guess they just want to change for the sake of change.

As long as Sony doesn't name the Playstation Network, Sony playstation store for games to be at. I will keep on buying my Sony products for another decade. M$ you came into gaming 10 years too late, and you will never be welcome in my house. Long live true gaming consoles :]

So they decide to change the name to Xbox Game Store when they also say their console's main focus is TV. Yeah. Microsoft has that clear focus on what consumers want.

Good. I like "game store" better. And seperating the games from music and movies - which I don't use the console for - is a good idea.

Microsoft know they like to re-brand and replace stuff.

I don't really care about the name. Marketplace was probably a better name, but at the end of the day it doesn't matter.

Surprised they didn't do this sooner.  Personally, I still can't forgive them for advertising WP8 phones as compatible with Xbox Video and ignoring questions about it until it was too late to return the phones.

XBox Rep: We've decided to change the name of our store.

Sony Fanboy: TOOLS! Everything you do is suck.

Sony Rep: We've decided to stop wiping our butts. Everyone you meet from our office from now on will smell faintly of poo.

Sony Fanboy: Brilliant! How courageous of you guys!

Given how stupid Microsoft are or have been lately, this move is a rare and sensible one. Given the digital catalogue of present titles AND a possible cloud based backwards compatible service for 360 games, renaming the XBOX Live into XBOX Game Store is definitely sensible.

Still going to call it Xbox Live

I don't think this is useless information I mean people complain about everything I think this idea will be easier for people who will end up having both an xbox 360 and an Xbox One maybe i'm the only one who sees the point in this...

@farcorners its called streamlining genius. their interface is being streamlined to be operable on multiple platforms. That sounds pretty damn next-gen to me.

@OurSin-360 they are changing it to divide the media stores and make them available separately on all devices.

@DeViLzzz Everyone wanted to get rid of em first. Now they want em back. WHAT THE HELL??

When did they ever say TV was thier "main focus"? You clearly don't have a clear focus on what's goin on.

@ChiefFreeman Same here, I'm happy with the new names ! It's good to see Microsoft is making things more user-friendly instead of a stupid "one store for everything" thing ! :)

@AlmostHaslem It was cool the first time I turned the 360 on, then, it became boring and ugly, I'm happy with the "Metro" style dashboard, actually.

@starjay009 What stupid things have they done recently (aside from forgetting to re-up their subscription to the GameSpot Payola program)? Since the E3 debacle, MS has been on-point. They've changed every bad practice to a good practice and become a more customer-centric business. I've literally never seen a company so large adapt so quickly.

@starjay009 Yeah they're changing every policy to please the consumers, that's absolutely stupid!

@Zid96 It will still be called Xbox Live wtf, did you even read the article?

noladem504
noladem504

@JBStone1981 I am kinda enjoying these pathetic comments. It gets even better if you read the comments on the article regarding XBone having remote download capability (which has BEEN available on the 360). They are on that thread BLASTING that XBone stole that idea from PS4. completely oblivious that this is an old feature that Sony is just now catching up with.

Seems the Sony fanboys are a pretty dumbass crowd.

@JBStone1981 @starjay009 its cause when your a sony fanboy you cant understand a new system with actual new features something ps4 isnt doing cause every time you ask a fanboy whats so new and good about the ps4 they just say its better then xbox1 ok so whats better about it oh thats right you dont know cause its a ps3 with xbox360 features wow big upgrade sony

noladem504
noladem504

@smoke1125 @JBStone1981 @starjay009 your right, i constantly see Sony fanboys bashing XBone but i have yet to see them promote a single feature on this miraculous device that causes so many of them to troll the comment sections of XBone articles.

Kinda sad really, why spend $400 on something that you cant even find a single original feature on?

@punksterdaddy @JKeyz90 @valknight Those are the risks you take when you sign up for a Beta of this nature.  I am also in the program and my Xbox has been working flawlessly but I feel for ya

@JKeyz90 @valknight

SO? Is that what I said? Nope.

Finding them isn't the problem, it is using them towards a purchase.

You would know this if you bothered reading my comment, instead of glancing at it and then attacking me, because you are so biased towards Xbox that you just have to resort to calling people names that have any issue with them!

Yes I DO own an Xbox, I DO NOT own a PS3 but that isn't the bloomin' point. The point is I cannot access my account balance when I want to.

I took part in the Beta testing and ever since I did my console has had nothing but problems.

Your comments says more about you than mine, since you clearly will defend them at any cost.

Well I want it fixed!

Fanboys like you two are all that is wrong with the Xbox community. I find it ridiculous that you can call me names for wanting my problem fixed!
