Xbox E3 presentation this year won't feature many execs

Microsoft says this year's briefing should be primarily focused on games.

by

Microsoft's E3 presentation this summer should be primarily focused on games, with "very few" Xbox executives taking the stage to talk, studio boss Phil Spencer said on Twitter.

"Yes, I think you'll see very few execs," Spencer said when asked if this year's presentation will be focused on games.

Microsoft's E3 briefing this summer will span 90 minutes, Spencer said, noting the company is having a hard time fitting in everything it wants to for the show.

"We are already over our 90-minute time limit and having to move stuff out of show," Spencer said.

Microsoft's E3 presentation will definitely feature Halo news, though it is unclear if Microsoft is going to discuss Halo 5, the rumored Halo 2 Anniversary, the Halo TV show, or something else entirely.

E3 2014 runs June 10-12 in Los Angeles.

Last year's E3 should have been about games as well.

It's very simple, Microsoft. Instead of having some blowhard blather on for twenty minutes about "the future of Xbox" in marketing speak that absolutely no one gives a shit about, just have someone do a quick introduction for your games and then show them to us. Show us gameplay. Don't sit there and play Call of Dooty 57 for thirty minutes straight. Give us five minutes of footage for each game. Tell us why, in one or two sentences, we should want to play them. That's what gamers are interested in. Keep it simple, and skip the theatrics. Nobody wants to see their gaming dollars go towards terrible E3 presentations.

But I want to know more about this Halo TV series! :O  Ah well, at least we'll learn more about the TV series tie-in game Quantum Break.

True, better not focus on the console. In fact, better we forget entirely about the console!

Microscam's afraid of Sony trolling them back to the stone age.

I just sit back and enjoy the insanity that is the Internet, and know that it's what I care about that counts. So ecstatic for E3!!!

If Microsoft is going to convince people that getting a Xbox One instead of a PS4 is the best choice to make, then they will have to focus on games for sure. Exclusives if they have any to show. It will have to be more than just Halo and Forza though.

hmm,this year has been good,compared to two AAA exclusives that focus entirely on Graphics and average gameplay, MS has a very good lineup,seems like next year would be great too

In truth, MS already made their bed by saying it's more than a gaming machine and if they chose not to provide sufficient  and important tech demo's in all of XB1's offerings. Then all the surrounding and lingering questions about the XB1, including it's underated and forced Kinect 2 along with all of it's entertainment purposes will just cause another media/internet feeding frenzy.

Possibly leading MS to get spanked hard once again by causing segregation and concern.  As you can see who ever was left in charge has a lot of broken pieces on the floor and in many ways it's a lose lose scenario if they focus only on games now.

Cool,   Since we already know the execs were already part of the problem on delivering expectations. Maybe MS can hire a talking 3ft titanfall robot suit built for a midget, a dancing bear and a little drumming monkey to entertain us while we hear about the future of XB1. Oh yeah throw in a couple of those daredevil hoop jumping pink poodles on stage to increase more ooo's and ahhh's . LOL.

These comments are stupid. So now Microsoft are idiots and backpeddlers for giving the customers what they asked for. The internet is never satisfied.

Good.  The rolling out of a new exec to introduce each new clip is nothing but filler.

Sweet. This is something everyone should be excited about, even if you don't like Microsoft/Xbox.

E3 should be about the games, not the services or the business talk.

Good, because these middle aged men dolled up in clothes teenagers wear or trying to look hip by taking their tie off just look ridiculous.

Good, this is what Nintendo and Sony should be doing as well. Last E3 was pretty shitty.

On the bright side, this E3 can't go any worse than last year's E3 for MS!

@rarson  LoLol.  I knew someone would say that... Last years E3 was all games.  They talked about the consoles features and live service for the new system reveal (before E3 2013).  Then E3 was all games.

On your blather remarks......every company at E3 does that....every year. Sony stands up and blathers on about nothing same as Micro does.

@jk12324  MS does a TV series tie-in, everybody mocks them.

Sony does it, nobody seems to notice.

@DARKSPACE  So they gave more information last year on every single feature of the system and you didnt like it good for you. I'm sorry that they decided to show more than just the game aspect of it. YOU people love taking everything out of proportion.

What I am hearing from the article is that their execs can't talk to us about games. Maybe that is why they made all those poor decisions back then.

@---Cipher--- Never underestimate the incompetence of Microsoft. I can't remember the last time they had a good E3

stage4saiyan
stage4saiyan

@---Cipher---  Microsoft had a decent showing last year. It was literally only videogames that they showed off...it's a shame that most were title cards and CG trailers instead of gameplay.

rarson

@WiteLite

1. I don't remember that at all. Feel free to school me.

2. I wasn't commenting on any company besides Microsoft. Yeah, other companies do that and I hate it. That has nothing to do with whether Microsoft decides to do it or not. Welcome to basic logic.

@Darknight765

There have been a lot of changes in management at both companies recently. This was not a criticism just an observation. I am only guessing but it may be that the people in charge of the company now are not quite up to speed about there jobs yet or they are not used to giving live presentations in front of a large audience. This could even signal a change of direction at the games division due to the influx of all the new blood there. We will have to wait and see. If anything Microsoft does not want a repeat of the debacle that was last years E3 press conference.

@deathstream Well, it's a gaming convention. People want to see games, not guys in suits being awkward with their hands.

@rarson @WiteLite  I don't think it's that hard to check 2013 MS's E3 conference in youtube,unless you're living in different timeline or memory issue,if not,last year's MS E3 was all about games.

WiteLite
WiteLite

@SlyMC182  it wasnt criticism or an observation.  Lets be honest.....it was a snide comment.

what was wrong with Micro's 2013 E3?  all they did was talk about games and release a price point.  Anything else you are thinking of, came prior to E3.....remember they revealed the hardware and features prior to E3.

From the E3 site Attendee FAQ:

"No, E3 is not open to the general public. E3 is a trade event and only professionals from the interactive entertainment industry will be allowed to attend. Individuals who are not able to document their direct and current professional affiliation to the interactive entertainment industry are not qualified to attend E3."

>but you have to have industry ties to get in.

Nope. It's far from progressed from that. It's THE biggest gaming convention in the world. More for fans than anything.

deathstream

@Tiwill44 @deathstream

It is not a convention for game fans.  It is a trade show for industry peeps.  The conferences are broadcast for fans, but you have to have industry ties to get in.
