Xbox 360 slim confirmed?

E3 2010: Apparent leaked ads show new 250GB, Wi-Fi-capable slimline model of Microsoft's console, promise compatibility with Kinect motion-sensing system.

by

It looks like the eagle-eyed readers at NeoGAF may have spoiled one of the big surprises Microsoft was holding in store for its press briefing tomorrow morning. The widely read forums of the gaming site unearthed an Italian advertisement (pictured) showing what appears to be the rumored new slimline model of Microsoft's console, the first models of which were introduced in 2005.

What's Italian for "Whoops!"?

Though its size is unclear, the new Xbox 360 appears to have a reworked cooling system, judging by its large ventilation slits. A second ad also promises that, as rumored, it will have a 250GB hard drive and will be compatible with Kinect, the camera-based motion-sensing system formerly known as Project Natal. Due out this October, the system was officially unveiled earlier tonight as part of a Cirque du Soleil-headlined event leading up to the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles.

Though Microsoft has not officially commented on the leaked banner ads, the second ad says that the system will have built-in Wi-Fi connectivity. Current Xbox 360 models require a peripheral for wireless connections, unlike their rivals the Wii and PlayStation 3, which both have Wi-Fi out of the box.

@infiniteclody you dont turn the xbox to its side unless the console is off and i recommend taking the game out as well before turning it. it isnt a portable console its not meant to be moved while its on lol

Not a great xbox to get because when you turn your xbox to the side with the game in it, it makes a noise and damages the game and 5 minites ago I damaged Halo Reach when I did by accident.

LOL! I wonder if this version will burn out easy as well as the previous ones. I have both the PS3 & the XBOX 360, I prefer the PS3 and only play the 360 for exclusive titles like Alan Wake, Splinter Cell: Conviction, etc.

Ya know the normal units still are easy break ovens..not as bad as they were but a slim.....good god no...unless the USB pipes and stata connection on it can use any HDD formated by MS to save anything to.

@ ads_legend i dont think that they have officially called it a '720' and they probably wont release a new console between 2-5 years, and I'm sure many people (including me) are interested in this. And i personally would much rather this than a ps3 although they are both good.

awesome looking console, when my current 360 breaks again (lol, probably not too long) i think i will get one of these.

@ kazi_sheeraz all the 360 games will work on both consoles, and yes kinect (project natal) will work on your elite and any other 360 console. This is just a slim version of the 360 (like there is a slim ps3), so it will have some improvements but it is still basically the same thing, so dont worry your not missing out on anything except a nicer version of the console.

Wow that thing looks cool. And it better be cool with new cooling mechanic. I don't want another ring of death.

DarkReign2552 there on the back of the system. The video on Xbox live that shows it shows the 4 usb ports are on the back, along with a bay door for the internal hard drive.

I think they've left it too late. With the 720 coming out in a few years I can't see many people upgrading to the slim. And if people wanted a wireless connection then they probably already have an adapter. I can only see this appealing to people who haven't got a 360 yet. But I'd choose a PS3 over this because the PS3 definitely has more power.

My only concern is where are the USB ports? All of my controllers are wired and I depend on my flash drives for music and storage space (which I would need to transfer over all of my save data.)

@bowlingotter. No I am not one of the lucky ones. I also did a type-0.. We have had to send our 360 in 12 times.. Yes. 12. 2 years ago was the last time. Not 4.. Every time we sent it, it was back at our home in 5 days. one day ship, 3 days in the shop send out and in our home. The 360 only have a 1% less chance of getting the RROD than the PS3 getting its yellow light of death or what ever it is called. Also Ms has been testing the slim for some time. I think every thing will be fine. My son wants to trade our 360 for the new one. It might just happen... But will we be able to movie all of our saved games, videos and so on to the new one? That should be the biggest thing to know.

Interesting the video on Xbox Live shows it has an internal removable hard drive like the PS3. I'm tempted to upgrade my launch 360 just for HDMI, and thew newer wi-fi adapter. I'm just curious how I can transfer my current drives data to the new system, and if it will support the HD-DVD drive?

im dissapointed. I like the PS3 slim because of the matte finish, it doesn't suck every dust particle out of the air. The new Xbox 360 has that damn glossy finish, that will just look dirty and crudy once it starts getting dust piled on it.

@gobbo00 and SLRMC93, your best bet would be to copy everything over to your new xbox harddrive, it doesn't appear to use external harddrives, so unless I'm wrong, it appears your out of luck.

How can I put my old HD in it if its slim?

bawkbawkboo1
bawkbawkboo1

It had better not have the same gigantic power brick- a major design overhaul would be a great time to internalize the PSU. Hopefully the CPU is 32nm, and the ATI card is 28nm. I can hope.

Hopefully the extended warranty will let you send in your old elite for a new slim elite if it has built-in wifi

this looks really cool. Hopefully the new venting system means no more red ring, which is system overheating

I don't understand why so many people are expecting this new "slim" model will have the same overheating problems as the previous model. I don't see this new model with gloom and doom because I actually swapped out my RRODed xbox with the rare falcon 360 model that I have never had problems with. I suspect that this new model with have the better improved heat sinker like the one in my current xbox that has kept it nice and cool for the couple of years I have had it. Look on the bright side of the possibility to contain other better components that could match the ps3's technological performance. I just hope I get a loyalty discount on this model if it comes out since I have had the original and 360 xbox's ever since the release date they came out.

Ok...so xbox 360 has been out over 4 years...my current xbox had to be sent in one time prior for RROD and to be honest i dont feel it runs as smoothly as my ps3. The controller constantly disconnects and lets not mention how loud it is. With that said, i prefer to play on xbox due to live and achievements. The only way i could see replacing my current xbox with this slim model is due to the wifi and if it was as quite as the ps3. In all honesty, I would rather start hearing about the next generation of console....isnt it time?

Probably what it should have been originally... enough to make me tempted :)

If the new one has built-in WiFi, that's great. But I am still unwilling to pay $100 for the peripheral for my current Xbox360. They should have thought about having that in the original. Sony and Nintendo did.

monson21502 wrote " the game might have. *online updates or game glitch fixes*.on 360 there is none" Really? Last I checked on my 360 there were updates for most of my games. As for my PS3 I own a lot of games and not all require an install.. "most people dont know how to install their own hd or even know what kind of hd to get." ever heard of the internet or youtube? It takes all of 5 minutes to install..
