Xbox 360 Bluetooth headset, new media remote set for November

Microsoft announces new $60 chat device, $20 media remote with Live TV button coming this fall.

Last year, Microsoft rolled out a new Xbox 360 controller with a transforming D-pad. Now, the Redmond tech giant is preparing two new Xbox 360 peripherals: a $60 Bluetooth headset and a fresh $20 media remote.

Microsoft's new Bluetooth headset for the Xbox 360.

Due out in early November, the Bluetooth headset will work with compatible mobile phones and PCs, as well as the Xbox 360 through standard radio frequencies. Also arriving at that time will be a new media playback remote for the Xbox 360.

The remote (pictured here) lets users manipulate playback of Xbox 360 media as well as live television, a service that was confirmed for the Xbox 360 at the 2011 Electronic Entertainment Expo last month. The new controller also sports A, B, X, Y, and D-pad navigation buttons. It is not known when the television service will launch or which television providers will be available to users.

doesnt the current headset attach to the controller and you would always have the controller in your hand right. Plus i already bought a bluetooth headset for my ps3 for like 10$, no way i am wasting that much money on a headset when i know how cheap the playstation version can be. Sounds pretty pointless to me unless u love getting robbed.

Dear Major Nelson, Are you aware that one of your competitor's console actually allows usage of most third party accesories?

I like em both! Looks like I found what I need to get back into almost 4-5 hours on fridays, and weekends on Xbox360! The new stuff looks as sleek, and cool as the new console.

Gahh, like I need another remote!! I have had remotes for consoles before and found I never really used them. So with this new headset, will they be lowering the price of the original wireless headset? Sure hope so!!

Why don't they update the wired one which is the most annoying peace of crap headset I have ever used? Maybe they can make the wire out of a little heavier material allowing it to not tangle every time you plug it in?

Still using the original cheap headset thank you very much.

i have the chat pad and wireless head set, and other then the PS3 i don't own anything that needs a blu tooth headset. but when it comes to mobile phones and MP3 players i go with simple, not this Apple crap.

@liam82517 wow... Is it a bluetooth headset...yes. Does it work with the 360...yes. Do they at any point anywhere say the 360 uses bluetooth...no...in fact they go out of the way to say it uses RF. So. It's a Bluetooth headset that works for the 360...read the article and yep...There is nothing misleading there at all...rant away now not my fault your comprehension skills are lacking.

@liam82517 lol...it's a blue tooth device that also uses RF...what are you not getting here? You are the one saying it's pointless so how about you read and then explain what it is you are trying to actually say.

@quiero-sexo Did you by any chance used the same name you use here for your Xbox profile?. That would be a reason for a ban. Microsoft has very strict rules.

"$60 is fairly expensive for a Bluetooth headset nowadays" And @XeonForce said it all...

$60? I could go down to my Wal-mart and get Turtle Beaches for that price. No thanks.

XeonForce
XeonForce

So it connects to the 360 using standard radio frequencies? Also, $60 is fairly expensive for a Bluetooth headset nowadays, so then why does this headset exist? If it is the successor to the $60 wireless headset MS currently offers, then the free "Bluetooth" upgrade is welcome... better late and half-assed than never I suppose.

That thing actually looks as bad as the official ps3 one. I'll just stick with the original wireless mic.

I think these peripherals would have better been off shown at E3.

Will this actually work? Not like the last 3 headsets I have owned(2 wired 1 wireless).

The thing I don't like about most wireless headsets is that they don't really fit firmly and stay firm on our ears. The current wireless X360 headset doesn't have a good ear clip either.

I bought my wireless headset for my 360 for $29.99(xbox brand too). My gold has cost $34.99 a year, not $70 like everyone says. These "prices" people refer to are insane. Is it microsofts fault you choose to buy things that arent on sale. and the hard drive issue: i bought a $5 case for a laptop drive, formatted it, and got 250G(minus system usage) for $50. I find it funny everyone claims you need to buy ms harddrives. when I got my new "slim" i took the old HD apart, and bought another $5 case, now it fits into the slim. It took two screws and all of 5 mins. do your research, and please don't buy stuff at full price :) PS: where i live(canada) the xbox headsets(wireless) are $39,99 regular price. The sony ones are always at least that, if not more. So i don't know what everyone keeps talking about.

@zzamaro Never pay full retail, man! I got my 250GB HDD for my X360 for 60 bucks delivered. So while I like my PS3, i'm not going to abandon Microsoft because of a silly suggested retail price. There are deals to be found everywhere... @plaintomato That is very well said. Couldn't have said it any better. Which is why it is a very good idea to have both right about now.

Sony release better headset almost 2 years ago that does the same plus more and it looks better. also the ps3 had a remote control since it was release and it is most likely better as well

I still have my Limited Edition: Halo Reach headset. That ran me $50 already, I'll be keeping it thank you very much.

The PS3 is a more open platform with better accessories and features all around. 360 has better live gaming support all around and a better interface than the PS3, and apparently it is easier to develop for. Why can't one of them get it all the way right? Stupid MS and stupid Sony. This gen is neck 'n' neck because they're both only half right and nobody can figure out which half they want more.

Aint buying any new things for the xbox...not kinect, no stupid head sets, not even games...im seriously thinking about putting it on the garbage after they banned me for no reason and out of the blue on their last update, i could cope with the xbox metling from inside out 2 times in the past...but banning without motive, making a disposable console and raising the prices for everything every year is a mockery to the consumers, i mean, they even charge you for you "playing online" benefit or the wifi antena?...hope microsoft goes broke, ill stick to ps3 :D (Btw my bluethoot head set costed me 50 dlls last year, and works great with my ps3, my cellphone, my laptop and every other device)

I will stick with the FREE one that came with my console, thanks. I can even cross-game chat and party chat on my 360 unlike my other system. Man PS really needs to get that straight. I can't even private chat with my buddy? I have to listen to douchebags? LAME!!

WOW 60 $ for the xbox headset that came out years ago? Why does Microsoft constantly try to reinvent the wheel? seriously, how many Xbox Editions are out there? I use a 20$ e-bay bluetooth Motorola headset for my PS3, which actually allows third party accessories.

@ninjaroach81 hey dude apologies wasnt exactly calling you a douche bag. I mean the reality is that i llove my 360 but i im not blind to how M$ rips everyone off, and instead of spending time on a useless bluetooth they could do something else, or bring down their exorbitant prices for their cheap accessories which need to constantly be replaced (mind you i take amazing care of my stuff, but all my M$ stuff messes up, no issues with my other systems though.) I mean i guess i just dot like people to make it seem like its actually fair when the price is ridiculous and theits no real use for them, i mean lets be honest you can use it for your phone and 360 but who even uses bluetooth these days, it may come in handy but its just another thing to recharge and lug around, not to mention how easily people lose them. no hard feelings.

I'm not gonna buy media playback remote. The live TV thing is a lot of cash. It's 100 to start up, then more to set it up.

Is this freaking bluetooth headset going to work as pretended???? I am still waiting my refund for the first one that was supposed to be STATE OF THE ART and whatnot........microsoft liars!!!!!

zzamaro

@PixelAddict Yes, I do know they aren't cheap but overpriced is a different story. M$ has always overpcriced their products. The fact you can't even use third-party products makes this even worse because you are forced to pay for those overpriced products. You can look at Sony, their 1.0 bluetooth headset is 39.99$USD and their 2.0 bluetooth headset is 49.99$ and it's been for that for ages. The 1.0 probably got a 10$ price cut after 2.0 was announced, I'm not sure since I have one not made by Sony. Last year M$ announced an HDD for 130$. Anyone with knowledge about HDD sure knows that a 500GB may cost you around 60-70(depending on where you get one). I think Best Buy has a 400GB for 80$. I pretty much all but abandoned the 360. I went out and bought a PS3 in 2009, and a 500gb hard drive for about 50 dollars. Just think, if Microsoft made a 500gb HDD for the 360, it'd cost you 700 dollars. That is how M$ works. I only use it for the exclusives now. Multiplatform games I'll be getting on the PS3. It's a better quality, and they don't rob you blind in the process.

Wait the xbox has bluetooth support? Did they just add this to the slim?

liam82517

@ninjaroach81 I see your point that there is a market, however I would repackage the bluetooth headset as "ALSO connects to xbox360" rather than "also connects to other bluetooth enabled devices". If we are honest though most people would rather by a turtle beach headset than this. Even the remote is garbage when compared with even the cheapest harmony remote that has better design and functionality. I still think MS was just greedy by not using bluetooth in the first place. We wouldnt need to spend more money just to use their proprietary RF. If they were worried about competition , all they had to do was make good products at reasonable prices and it wouldnt be an issue.

I'm just more interested in the live TV MS is offering. So as long it's not a XBOX LIVE GOLD members only thing, and it's not at it's own personal fee.I'm up for it.
