Chapter 1 - Wrestler Stats
This section compiles statistics for all WWE superstars and legends offered in WWE Smackdown vs. RAW. The list below describes each statistic--the higher the statistic, the better with 10 being the highest possible rating.
- Strength: Represents the amount of damage your superstar inflicts for strike and grapple attacks. Superstars with high strength attribute values will cause more limb damage on their attacks.
- Submission: Determines how long you can hold submission moves and how quickly you can get out of them. Increasing the submission attribute allows for greater submission meter control.
- Durability: Represents how much damage your superstar can withstand in a match. The higher your durability rating is, the less limb damage you will receive from attacks.
- Technique: Determines your success rate for countering attacks. Superstars with ratings of 8 or above in technique have the ability to counter Irish whips at the ropes.
- Speed: Represents the speed at which your superstar walks, runs, and climbs. Superstars with ratings of 9 or above in speed have the ability to quick jump onto the turnbuckle.
- Charisma: Determines how quickly your adrenaline and match tactics meter fill up. Superstars with high charisma will find it easier to build up finisher moves and their match tactics meter.
- Finishers: The wrestlers finishing move (or moves) and the situation to execute the move.

Chapter 2: Match Strategies
This section covers WWE match strategies. Youll find general strategies that apply to every match, coverage of WWE Smackdown vs. RAWs new dirty and clean tactics, and specific strategies for each match type, such as tag team, steel cage, parking lot brawl, and ladder matches.
General Strategies
The following are general strategies that are applicable to every match type as well as season mode and online play.
Take advantage of location damage. This is particularly important for submission specialists, such as Chris Benoit or Ric Flair. Perform maneuvers that inflict damage on a specific body part, such as the arms or legs. These parts begin blue in color and move to yellow then orange then red with red being severely damaged. After inflicting damage, slap on a submission hold on the same body part. The weakened body part will increase your likelihood of your opponent tapping out. Performing the same move on healthy body parts wont lead to the same results. Inflict enough damage on one body part and your opponent may quickly tap out from a hold inflicting damage to that same part.
WWE Smackdown vs. RAW features new before-match and during-match mini games, such as the stare down contest, test of strength, and chop battles. The chop battle occurs during the match. When standing at your opponent in a corner, use circle plus down on the directional pad to initiate the chop battle. The meter (also used in other mini-games, such as the shove battle and diva spanking) resembles a kickoff meter in Madden football. When the meter moves toward the top and into the small red zone, hit the "X" button to stop it within the red zone. The meter then returns to the bottom. Hit "X" again when the meter is within the yellow area for an excellent chop. The chop battle is part of the new clean tactics gauge (see the next section in this chapter). A good guy can boost his clean tactics meter with a successful three chops on the chop meter.
Each wrestlers finisher (or finishers) is executed when your opponent is in a particular position. For most wrestlers its the "Facing the groggy opponent" position. Certainly the optimum way to get your opponent groggy is with the toe kick. Specifically its called "Toe Kick 01" and every wrestler has the maneuver (check the move sets to note its down + left or right and the "X" button). Kicking your opponent in the gut with toe kick 01 bends your opponent over in pain and fulfills the groggy requirement. After connecting on the toe kick, press L1 to execute the finishing move. Many wrestlers use finishers in other situations so consult the table in the first section of this game guide for all wrestlers, their finishers, and requirements.
Add insult to injury by stealing your opponents finishing move. Youll need to accumulate two finisher icons (representing the possible use of two finishing moves) and then use the key combination "hold L2 then press L1" at your opponents finisher requirement state. For instance, if your opponents finisher requires being behind a groggy opponent then youll have to be behind a groggy opponent to steal and utilize that same finisher.
Choose your wrestler with his or her strengths and weaknesses in mind. Then when you play, capitalize on that wrestlers strengths! Selecting Chris Benoit or Ric Flair places an emphasis on submission holds and location-based damage so you can wear your opponent down and go for a submission finisher. Selecting Batista or Undertaker emphasizes power grapple maneuvers while faster superstars like Rey Mysterio or Rob Van Dam places important on speed and aerial maneuvers (superstars with a speed rating of nine or above have the ability to quick jump onto the turnbuckle).
Keep the pressure on. Mix up your attacks against both computer and human opponents. Initiate a grapple then use strikes or execute a series of strikes then quickly begin a grapple attack. After dropping your opponent to the mat, assault with ground strikes or execute a submission hold. Use the circle button to lift your opponent to their feet (or double tap to lift opponent to sitting position) and pounce with another series of attacks. Hold the circle button to drag your opponent around the ring, specifically closer to a turnbuckle so you can perform an aerial move.
Searching through the move lists and youll spot submission A and submission B type moves. Submission A moves feature the "button mashing" submit and escape meter. Hit buttons as fast as possible to force your opponent to submit or to help you escape from the hold. Submission B holds use a timed meter. Hit the "X" button to stop the circle within the "escape" or "reverse" sections of the meter.
Face or Heel?
WWE Smackdown vs. RAW allows players to assume the role of their favorite wrestler by recreating "face" (good guy) or "heel" (bad guy) maneuvers. Good guys boast the clean tactics meter while the bad guys have the dirty tactics meter. Your actions during a match can raise or lower the clean and dirty tactics meter.
A good guys clean tactics meter emphasizes fair fighting (no breaking the match rules!) as well as entertaining the audience with high-flying aerial maneuvers or incredible heroics, like kicking out of a two count or resisting a submission despite heavy limb damage. Once a good guys clean meter is full, execute the "Super Clean" ability with a taunt. For a brief period, youre now invincible and receive extra damage for your finisher. Thus its an advantage to try and hold back a finisher if you are close to completing your clean meter. This combo can end a match quickly.
A bad guys dirty tactics meter emphasizes rule breaking and angering the audience, such as attacking teammates, breaking out of your own pin at a two count, or striking an opponent during their taunt. Once a bad guys dirty meter is full, execute the "Super Dirty" ability with a taunt. You receive a special grapple move (perform a front grapple). Its a crushing low blow that boasts the power of a finisher.
Note that you have a limited time to execute these special clean or dirty tactic moves once you obtain a full meter. Dont waste them!
The following lists reveal which actions boost and reduce clean and dirty tactics meters.
Boost Clean Tactics:
Dive attacks are one of the best ways to boost clean tactics. A good guy should emphasize signature grapples (circle plus left to initiate) and turnbuckle aerial moves to increase the clean meter steadily. Faster superstars (such as Rob Van Dam or Rey Mysterio) can hop onto the turnbuckle quickly, which makes them potent clean meter good guys. Dont neglect your taunts, especially quick taunts! You wont receive the adrenaline or clean meter boost until the taunt runs to completion. Find a taunt that you can time in between grappled moves.
- Perform signature grapple moves.
- Perform any diving attacks (including cage and Hell in a Cell).
- Perform dive attacks from inside the ring to outside the ring.
- Counter a weapon attack.
- Taunt your opponent.
- Win a chop battle (successful at all three chops).
- Get a rope break during a submission move.
- Kick out of a pin after a two count.
- Perform moves on the announcer table and destroy the table.
- Perform a submission counter while youre in submission type B.
- Refuse to tap out of a submission even though your limb damage is red.
Reduce Clean Tactics:
- Perform dirty moves (low blow, eye poke, etc).
- Weapon attacks.
- Remove turnbuckle cover.
- Perform Irish whip to the exposed turnbuckle.
- Perform any grapple moves onto the exposed turnbuckle.
- Break your own pin after a two count.
- Ignore the referees rope break and hold the submission.
- Complain to the referee about a two count.
- Attack the referee.
- Attack your partner or manager.
Boost Dirty Tactics:
A bad guy may have a tougher time increasing the dirty tactic meter, especially in a disqualification on match (which would hinder the ability to utilize weapons safely). Note your bad guy wrestlers "dirty moves", such as low blows and eye pokes so you can perform them. Exit the ring and taunt when possible and hold submissions despite rope breaks. You can also complain about two counts by using the L1 button but watch out for your opponent sneaking up behind you.
- Taunt from outside of the ring when your opponent is inside the ring.
- Attack a wrestler while they are taunting.
- Ignore the referees rope break and hold the submission.
- Complain to the referee about a two count.
- Attack the referee.
- Attack your partner or manager.
- Push (drop) an opponent off the top of a Hell in a Cell.
- Attack the illegal opponent at the opposing tag teams corner.
- Call for interference.
- Perform moves on the announcer table and destroy the table.
Reduce Dirty Tactics:
- Perform any diving attacks (including steel cage and Hell in a Cell).
- Perform tope type or plancha type moves.
Tag Team
The important strategy in tag team matches, specifically when youre partnered with a computer-controlled ally, is to properly managing your teammate. This includes when youre in the ring as the legal man and when your computer-controlled ally is in the ring as the legal man.
When youre in the ring, you can call your teammate into the ring and assist against the legal man or attack the legal mans teammate. To do so, press down on the left analog stick to attack the legal opponent or up on the left analog stick to attack the legal opponents tag partner. Note that this is in the default controller configuration. If you have altered the control configuration, you will use the D-pad instead.
Another important tactic in tag team matches are double team maneuvers. Perform a double team turnbuckle move by Irish whipping your opponent into your corner turnbuckle (nearest your tag team partner) and pressing the circle button and any direction (or no direction) to tag your partner in and perform a double team maneuver. Other double team moves can be performed inside the ring by grappling an opponent when your tag team partner also initiates a grapple.
Call your tag partner into the ring and unleash some double team grapples on your legal opponent. The ref wont let you get away with this for too long and will eventually shove your tag partner (or you if you arent the legal man) out of the ring. Be careful because you wont be able to call on your partner--or help your partner--while being escorted out of the ring. So dont get pinned when you cant be helped! Speaking of being pinned, call your partner in to interfere with a pin or to intercept your opponent if hes running inside the ring to interfere.
A tornado tag match pits everyone in the ring at the same time--theres no need to tag in a partner. Be careful to avoid striking or grappling your own partner! It can get crowded and a careless key press could lead to slamming your partner with a DDT. The "R1" button becomes more important as well. Press R1 to switch focus between opponent tag partners. Itll help land your strikes and grapples with greater success. Look for opportunities to execute double team maneuvers and be ready to assist your partner if hes getting pinned.
You can also play tag team matches with managers. Press the left analog stick left to cause the manager to distract the referee and press the left analog stick right to cause the manager to retrieve a weapon from beneath the ring and toss it inside the squared circle. Note as with the tag team partner moves, these could use the D-pad if you have altered the control configuration. Retrieving a weapon can turn the tide in a match but if disqualification is on, make sure the manager distracts the ref before using the weapon. But dont abuse ref distraction! Your manager will eventually get banned from ringside. This would apply to singles matches as well. Also note that you can use Paul Heyman as a manager!
Handicap
Handicap matches come in three varieties: one on two, one on tag, and one on three. The odds arent even in a handicap match. In one on two or one on three, all wrestlers are in the ring at the same time. Obviously this creates an extremely difficult situation for that lone wrestler. In a one on tag match, it is one wrestler against a tag team essentially; the tag team must tag in and out so the lone wrestler doesnt face constant double teams.
Try to separate your opponents in a one on two or one on three. Instead of fighting in close proximity, drag or lure one outside the ring (or at least away from the other wrestler) so you arent grabbed every single time you perform a maneuver. Finishers will become extremely vital in scoring a win in a handicap match. Utilize your taunts to gain adrenaline when you arent under duress. Save your finisher for the opportune moment; dont simple unleash the special as soon as you receive it. For instance, pummel one opponent outside the ring then get back in and perform a finisher on the other wrestler. Its important to create the time necessary to score a pin on one opponent while the other remains down and unable to provide assistance.
Then again if youre the one doing the handicapping, stick close with your partner and unleash double team moves and constant pounding on the lone wrestler. Dont get lured away and be prepared to aid a pinned partner at a moments notice.
Hardcore
Listing the rules of a hardcore match is simple: there are no rules in a hardcore match! There are no disqualifications so weapons are entirely legal--not to mention likely extremely important to victory. Control the weapons and control the win. Weapons inflict serious damage and successful weapons strikes provide a big boost to your adrenaline meter. Attack a standing opponent or a prone opponent. Anything goes! When your opponent holds a weapon, be ready to counter a strike. If you need another weapon, search under the ring by going outside the ring, standing against the middle of the ring apron, and pressing the square button while pressing the left analog stick against the ring (or D-pad in alternate control configuration).
You can battle a hardcore match in the backstage area. There are certainly weapons here but there are also interactive elements in the environment. Irish whip your opponent into the hanger door in the upper right corner of the area. When its slightly ajar, you can perform a move where you shove your opponent under the door and slam the door down. Irish whip your opponent into the fuse boxes in the upper right corner to give your opponent a shock. Irish whip into the television and watch it explode. Perform a move against the chain link to rub your opponents face across the fence.
Triple Threat and Fatal 4-Way
Triple threat and fatal 4-way matches are free-for-all matches in which the first wrestler to gain a pinfall or submission wins the match. It doesnt matter which opponent you pin or force to submit; its a free-for-all match so every other wrestler is a legal opponent of the others. Although its a free-for-all match, it might be considered that in name only. "Alliances" may and will likely form from time to time during the battle. You can still perform some double team moves even though your "partner" is still your opponent.
There are many approaches to these free-for-all matches and each has advantages and disadvantages. You can concentrate all your attacks on a single opponent and try and score a victory off that opponent as soon as possible. But remember a weakened adversary is like chum to feeding sharks. If youre forced away from the action, an opponent could leech that victory after all your hard work. On the other hand you might avoid fighting and allow your adversaries to pound on each other. Stand back and taunt to increase your adrenaline meter and get ready to score a finisher at the best opportunity.
Also, since these are free-for-all matches you cant allow any opponent to get a pin or force a submission. Intercept these actions! When you see someone going for a pin, get over there quickly and kick the pin out. Think of that downed opponent as your temporary partner. Help him out of the pin...then pound him.
Bra & Panties
A bra & panties match is somewhat like a submission match...at least in the button mashing required to obtain victory. Your goal is to rip the top and bottoms off of your diva opponent and expose their bra & panties to the audience. The first diva to lose their outfit loses the match.
To try and rip off a top or bottom, press down plus circle to initiate grapple. Once you begin ripping off the clothes, press buttons rapidly to move the meter into the submit zone. Like a submission move, its easier once youve weakened your opponent. So theres no rush. Conduct the match normally and go for your rip moves once youve inflicted decent damage on the opponents torso.
Performing up plus circle initiates a spanking maneuver. A meter appears (similar to the chop or shove meter) thatll gauge your power and "accuracy" of the spank. Press the "X" button when the meter is in the top red area for maximum power then press it again in the lower yellow area for max "accuracy" (at least thinking of the meter like a kickoff meter in Madden).
Elimination Chamber
The elimination chamber match is a six-man battle. Two superstars begin inside the ring while four others start in their own chamber. Every 60 seconds, another superstar is released from the chamber and joins the match. The winner is the wrestler that outlasts all the rest. Eliminate competitors through pin or submission. Note that pinfalls count anywhere.
The first tactic is to realize theres many ways to inflict heavy damage specific to the elimination chamber match. You can Irish whip adversaries into the cage that surrounds the ring. You can Irish whip adversaries into empty chambers, shattering the glass surrounding the chamber. You can climb the cage and perform a dive attack at wrestlers below. You can climb a turnbuckle and then the adjacent elimination chamber and perform a dive attack off of the chamber.
Be careful with these dive attacks, though. First, you can be caught on top of the chamber. If an opponent gets on top of the turnbuckle, he can toss you from the top of the chamber. Then he can move on top of the chamber and perform a dive attack onto your prone body! These dive attacks are high risk maneuvers. Miss and you could find yourself on the business end on a series of grapples, strikes, or submission holds while your superstar struggles to get up.
Since this is an elimination match, its often wise to pick your fights carefully. Unlike a triple threat or fatal 4-way, the winner isnt the first wrestler to get a victory--its the last wrestler to get a victory! Allow other competitors to weaken one another while you perform hit and run strikes and grapples while attempting to avoid heavy damage. Utilize your taunts to gain adrenaline and perform dirty or clean tactics depending on your superstar.
First Blood
Win a first blood match by busting open your opponent. The first wrestler to bleed loses the match! Perform maneuvers that weaken your opponents head, such as choke holds and certain strikes. A weakened head becomes more susceptible to "busting open." Particular moves are used to "bust open" opponents. Check the move sets for those moves (they feature the "B" next to their name), which include attacks like a big boot or DDT. Weapon attacks are also an excellent means of weakening the head or busting your opponent open.
Hell in a Cell
Who will ever forget the classic Hell in a Cell match: Undertaker vs. Mankind at 1998s King of the Ring? Since you can unlock both legend Undertaker and Mankind in WWE: Smackdown vs. RAW, you can now recreate Undertaker tossing Mankind off of the top of the cell.
The cell surrounds the entire ring--including a ceiling. You can exit the ring and then the cell through a door on the bottom left. Use the run button to open and bust through the cell door. Use the run button against the cell to climb to the cells top. You can battle your opponent on the cells ceiling. Careful near the edges, though; falling to the ground inflicts serious, serious damage (just as Mick Foley). Toss your opponent to the ground below and then perform a dive attack off the top of the cell. Its a risky move, though, and not exactly high percentage. Should you miss youre likely going to be still prone when your foe returns upright.
Execute a "combo" of sorts by executing your wrestlers finisher near the top of the cells edge. Your foe will suffer damage from the finisher and may, in the process, fall off the top of the cell for even more damage. You can also recreate another event from that same Undertaker and Mankind match from 1998. When on its center, slam your foe onto the cells top multiple times and youll bust through and back down to the mat. Dont neglect the weapons around the cell!
Spice the Hell in a Cell up even more with the "Armageddon" Hell in a Cell, which is a six man match inside the cell. The first man to get a pin or submit wins the match so theres little time to hide away from other competitors! Target weakened superstars and, if possible, battle away from other competitors. If you get an opponent onto the top of the cell, toss him off and quickly get down to go for the pin.
Ironman
An ironman match is a timed contest in which the winner is the superstar with the highest number of pinfalls or submissions when the clock strikes zero. By offering Bret "The Hitman" Hart as an unlockable legend, players can recreate one of the best ironman matches of all time: Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels at Wrestlemania 12.
Tactics are obviously similar to normal matches but its even more important to maximize the potency of your finishers and dirty or clean tactics. Bolster your adrenaline meter with taunts and increase your dirty or clean meter with applicable tactics. Accumulating a couple finishers and knocking them out essentially back to back (with pinfalls in between) can quickly turn the tide in an ironman.
Once you have a lead you may want to be more conservative and attempt to stay away from your opponent, especially if youve suffered more damage. It can be a risky move if youre caught. But if you can run and avoid contact, especially as time is winding down, then its possible to sit on a lead and wait out the time limit.
Ladder
The ladder match is a classic--fans will remember the Shawn Michaels vs. Razor Ramon ladder match that set the bar for every future ladder match. A belt (or other item) hangs above the center of the ring. The winner is the superstar that first ascends a ladder to reach and pull down that item. The ladder is not only the means to secure the hanging item but it can also be used as a weapon. Attacking with the ladder is certainly powerful and provides a good boost to your adrenaline meter.
Look closely and you can see the shadow of the hanging object over the rings center. Set up the ladder so its directly underneath the object. Climb the ladder and use the circle button (plus directional button if necessary) to jump for the object. Once youre holding on, your wrestler will pull the object down within a couple of seconds. Youre still vulnerable at this point, though; if your opponent ascends the ladder and grabs your legs, youll fall without recovering the object.
Utilize the ladder in other means of attack. You can perform a dive attack from off the ladder (like you could off a cage or elimination chamber). You can also set up the ladder in a turnbuckle and Irish whip your opponent into the ladder. If two competitors climb either side of the ladder, a confrontation can result at the top. Strike your opponent on the top of the ladder; knock your opponent down quickly so you remain at the top and ready to grab victory. If an opponent is climbing the ladder, strike the ladder to knock it and your opponent back to the mat.
Ladder matches can also be tag, tornado tag, or even triple threat or fatal 4-way free-for-all style. The additional competitors certainly creates a more chaotic match. In tag matches with a computer ally, try to occupy opponent wrestlers while your partner goes for the ladder and object. Or if your partner has his counterpart taken care of, pummel the other opponent with a ladder outside the ring then return inside and go for the win.
Last Man Standing
Win a last man standing match by knocking out your opponent. A ref will count to 10; youre victorious if your opponent fails to rise before the 10 count. Pinfalls and submissions arent the path to victory. Heavy damage maneuvers and slams are keys to success. Furthermore, managing your finishers is extremely important. Hold off executing a finisher until you have inflicted decent damage on your opponents head and torso (certainly into the orange damage).
Since you arent going for a pin, theres no advantage in executing a quick finisher on a still-strong opponent. You arent trying to go for a quick pin--youre trying to knock your opponent out. Its going to take some time and a lot of wear down. Stock up finisher icons so you can unleash finishing moves in succession to an already weakened foe. Back off and allow the ref to conduct the 10 count. If your opponent rises, pounce again aggressively and keep up the pressure--and another finisher if available. Taunt to raise your adrenaline meter during down times and dont neglect your clean and dirty tactics. A brief period of invincibility (clean) or a low blow (dirty) is like extra finishers to apply in succession.
Parking Lot Brawl
The parking lot brawl is a new match type in WWE Smackdown vs. RAW. The battle takes place in an arena formed by parked cars and trucks. The area isnt very big but the important element is the cars are like weapons. You can Irish whip your opponent into each vehicle and even perform grapples specific to each.
For example, Irish whip your opponent into the beige car in the lower left corner and your opponent slams onto the windshield (cracking it). Irish whip your opponent into the red car to the beige cars left and the car alarm goes off; the flashing lights disorients your opponent, which gives you the perfect opportunity to execute a high damage maneuver.
The limo on the upper side of the arena offers its share of mayhem. Irish whip your opponent into the limos rear door. When hes against the door, perform a grapple move. Youll open the door and shove your opponent inside the limo. Unknown assailants pummel your opponent inside the limo and shove him back outside. Irish whip your opponent into the limos front door and perform a grapple move to smash his head into the open window. Do it again after the window has been broken to use that same door as a weapon.
Irish whip your foe into the red convertible on the bottom of the arena then perform a grapple move to climb inside and smash your foes head onto the steering wheel. Note the WWE semi on the right side of the arena. You can climb the ladder and perform dive attacks off the top. Be extremely careful, though. If your opponent kicks the truck a couple times and you fall off and onto the concrete below. This inflicts serious, serious all-body damage. Search under the semi for a weapon, namely a sledgehammer!
Keep pressure on your enemy. Irish whip into the variety of vehicles and use grapple moves against all vehicles for special moves or to simply slam your foe or your foes head into the vehicle. Secure the arenas weapon!
Slobber Knocker
The slobber knocker is a special kind of match in which your superstar battles a never-ending stream of WWE superstars and attempts to score as many knockouts within the time limit (if applicable). Finishers are certainly one of the best ways to score a knockout so build your adrenaline meter as quickly as possible. After knocking out an opponent, taunt to build your meter while the next superstar enters the ring.
Theres a high score table that reveals the best slobber knocker scores; one of the WWE Smackdown vs. RAW challenges in the WWE section is to obtain the highest slobber knocker score within the time limit. Have finishers ready to unleash on opponents as soon as they enter. Obviously selecting a wrestler with a quick, easy-to-execute finisher--something along the lines of John Cenas F-U or power bombs and choke slams--will pay dividends. The quicker and easier you can execute, the more bang for your buck and, hopefully, the more wrestlers you knock out under the time limit.
Special Referee
Choose a WWE superstar to be a referee in a special referee match. You can keep the referee computer-controlled or even assume control of the special referee. The square button becomes the "all-purpose" ref button and will count pinfalls and count outs. You can count as fast or as slow as you want!
Steel Cage
A traditional steel cage match is victory by escape. A steel cage is lowered around the ring; the first wrestler that climbs the cage and drops off the other side to escape the ring wins the match. During match selection you can choose to win by pin or "give up" if you wish as well.
Escaping the cage means keeping your opponent down for an extended period of time. More than likely you wont be able to win a steel cage match quickly. Unless your opponent has suffered some damage, he or she will be able to get up quickly and knock you off the cage before you can escape. Solid finisher management pays off here. Bust a couple finishers on an opponent then scramble to the cage and begin the climb. Use the "R1" button to drop off of the cage if your opponent has gotten up and is about to knock you off. Otherwise youll be thrown off and vulnerable to additional moves. You can also perform dive attacks off of the cage if desired.
Dont feel rushed. Battle your opponent like a standard singles match. The cage isnt going anywhere. Build up your adrenaline and tactics meters so you have the maneuvers and power available to drop your opponent for an extended period of time so you have the opportunity to climb and exit the cage before interfered.
Submission
Win a submission match by forcing your opponent to give up or "tap out" during a submission move. Theres no need to pin your opponent; only a submission awards victory. The keys to winning a submission match lie in wrestler selection and location damage.
Regarding wrestler selection, its to your advantage to select a wrestler with a high submission rating. The higher the submission rating, the longer the wrestler can hold submission moves--as well as how quickly you can get out of submission moves, which is also important for this type of match. The WWE Smackdown vs. RAW wrestlers with a 9.5 submission rating or above also boast submission holds as their primary finishing move. Note that Bret Hart is a WWE legend and must be purchased from shopzone.
Wrestler | OVR | Submission Rating | Finisher #1 | Finisher #2 |
Chris Benoit | 90 | 10 | Crippler Crossface: Facing the groggy opponent | Sharpshooter 01: When opponent is on the ground, lower body. |
Kurt Angle | 94 | 10 | Angle Lock 02: While opponent is on the ground, lower body | Angle Slam: Behind the groggy opponent |
Ric Flair | 86 | 10 | Figure-4 Leg Lock 02: While opponent is on the ground, lower body | N/A |
Bret Hart | 91 | 9.5 | Sharpshooter 01: While opponent is on the ground, lower body | Piledriver 03: Facing the groggy opponent |
Chris Jericho | 87 | 9.5 | The Walls of Jericho 01: Facing the groggy opponent | Enzuigiri 04: Facing the groggy opponent |
Location damage is the second key to winning a submission match. Instead of haphazardly performing strikes and grapples, use moves the inflict damage to particular body parts. These top submission hold wrestlers all have a variety of holds in their move sets. To take advantage of the submission finishers, work the area of your opponents body thats most impacted by the finisher. For instance, if youre Ric Flair, work on damaging your opponents legs; if youre Chris Benoit, damage the arms and head in preparation for the crippler crossface.
Table
The object of a table match is to set up a table and slam your opponent through the table. You can also set up the table in a turnbuckle and whip your opponent into the table. Climb onto the table using the run button while standing against the table. You can toss your opponent onto the table using an Irish whip. Once on the table, perform a grapple that slams your opponent down into the table for the win.
Royal Rumble
Thirty superstars enter but there can only be one winner. The royal rumble begins with two superstars (entrant #1 and #2) and 28 remaining superstars enter one after another. There are no pinfalls or submissions; to eliminate a competitor, he must be tossed over the ring rope.
WWE Smackdown vs. RAW features the new "ring out meter". Irish whip an opponent over the rope then strike or grapple to reduce their ring out meter. Once its exhausted, the competitor falls off the apron and is eliminated from the rumble. Regain some of your ring out meter by eliminating a competitor. Damage level seems to play a role in how fast your ring out meter goes down if youre on the wrong end of elimination. Also, you can increase the rate of ring out reduction by double teaming a superstar thats on the brink of elimination. If youre on the wrong end of the ring out meter, you can use a finisher move (L1) to end the grapple and return inside the ring. Heavyweight wrestlers (and above) can toss smaller wrestlers out of the ring.
Strategies for winning a royal rumble are like other free-for-all matches. Pick your battles carefully. Avoid getting into a brawl with multiple wrestlers. Stick on the outskirts and look for an opportunity to strike at a weakened foe. Irish whip wrestlers with long ring out meter so you can get the elimination--particularly important once your ring out meter has been depleted. As the numbers dwindle, look for opportunities to gang up on unfortunate wrestlers being grappled on the apron. This can eliminate other wrestlers quickly and if you gain the credit, your ring out meter replenishes a small amount.
Also note that heavy damage negates the ring out meter. If you or your opponent has suffered heavy damage (lots of body parts) then an Irish whip close to the rope could send you or your competitor out of the ring entirely--even with a full ring out meter.
Chapter 3: Season Tips
This section provides tips for WWE Smackdown vs. RAWs season mode. Season mode plays out like weekly Smackdown or RAW brand shows with appropriate pay-per-views in between. Choose your favorite WWE superstar or create your own persona and start your season. Actions you make during season mode cut scenes will affect your role as a babyface, good guy, or heel, bad guy. Your role as either is important because you can perform actions during matches to elevate your clean or dirty meter depending on your standing.
Your first decision in season mode is wrestler selection. As you advance through season mode, victories reward you with experience points, cash, and prestige, or superstar points. Use experience points to increase your wrestlers statistics, spend accumulated cash at the shopzone, and receive superstar points for match successes and lose superstar points for match failures. Higher superstar rating--essentially your standing within the company--means youll be able to compete for the coveted championship titles.
A wrestlers weight classification determines maximum ratings for each attribute. For instance, a light heavyweight wont be able to reach strength of 10 nor will a super heavyweight be able to increase their speed attribute over six. The following chart reveals each selectable wrestlers weight classification.

As you win matches (thats the goal, anyhow!), youll gain experience points to spend on your wrestlers attributes. The following list describes each attribute and how higher rating affects each attribute.
Base attributes begin with a rating of two. Each half-point increase requires a particular amount of experience points. The chart below reveals experience points required for each rating increment up to the attributes highest rating for that weight class.

WWE Smackdown vs. RAWs season mode is a series of non-linear storylines that typically run from pay-per-view to pay-per-view. Theres no fixed walkthrough for completing season mode. Use the match strategies earlier in this game guide for tips on winning each specific match type. Season mode unveils new feuds, big battle climaxes to ongoing feuds, and swings from fan favorite good guy to despised heel. You may get bounties placed on your head, have the opportunity to gain the services of a WWE diva, battle for position in the royal rumble, or even switch show brands.
Occasionally youll have a decision or two during the cut scenes between matches. For instance you might have the chance to attack a competitor from behind or simply let him walk out of the locker room. These decisions shape your storyline and can affect your standing as a babyface or heel. For example, if you attack the superstar, you will likely begin a feud or perhaps hell get revenge during or after the next match. But if you let the superstar go, perhaps hell lend a helping hand at a later time.
Chapter 4: Challenge Mode
The challenge mode is a new feature in WWE Smackdown vs. RAW. These challenges include specific tasks to complete in exhibition mode. You can view the specifics of any of the amateur, rising star, and superstar challenges by entering the shopzone section and selecting the challenge option. To unlock the legend challenges, purchase all WWE legends from shopzone.
This section offers a complete compilation of amateur, rising star, superstar, and legend challenges with some tips on conquering each. The section also reveals the hidden extras awarded upon completing each set of challenges.

Chapter 5: Create a Superstar
One of the most popular features in each WWE video game release is the "Create a Superstar" mode. Even if your favorite current WWE superstar (wheres Eugene?) or WWE legend (Macho Man Randy Savage?) isnt included in the game, you can whip up a near identical replica in create mode. Your options arent limited to past and present wrestlers, though. You could create other video game characters, real life celebrities, or even yourself.
This section offers tips on using WWE Smackdown vs. RAWs create a superstar mode by helping you create one of the most popular WWE legends of all time, classic era Hulk Hogan.
Your task in creating the Hulkster begins with his profile. Enter "Hulk Hogan" as the name or ring name. For Hulk Hogans call name select "The Immortal". If youre trying to create Hulks later persona, note that "Hollywood" is available for selection. Choose "Super Heavyweight" as the classification, gender is male, match tactics is clean (was there ever a better babyface?), and select the show of your choice. Select desired crowd signs (the American flag is always a safe choice for Hulkamaniacs). For Hulk Hogans logic choices, select "Brawler" and "Grappler". For Hulks move style, choose "Clever". Increase "Irish Whip" and "Taunt" to "Often".
Now time to mold Hulk Hogan from a clean slate. First up is body toning. Hulk Hogan was a thick wrestler. Increase toning to around +20. Select the face skin. Give his face some lines and character by selecting skin #5. Hulk Hogan always had an impressive tan so select skin color #3.
For Hogans hair, select #8. Adjust the hair color to a bleached blonde look; adjust the slider to approximately -74, 10 with small adjustments as needed to get your preferred tone. Increase the length slightly to approximately +20. Skip over body hair and move to eyebrows. Choose #24 and then lighten them slightly by increasing the Y value. Choose eyes #7 and leave default. For facial hair select #36 and match the color close to Hulks hair, though perhaps a bit darker. Note that you can select multiple facial hair layers, which means you can create Hogans later Hollywood persona by adding stubble. Leave sideburns and teeth alone and select lips #3.
Time for the appearance details! First up is face morphing.
Head: Decrease the width and height of the head by adjusting to position -30, -45. Depth should be close. Use minor adjustments if necessary or leave at 0.
Eyebrows: Adjust angles and depth to around -25, -60 and -90.
Eyes: This feature adjusts the position of the eyeballs and the length and height of the eyes. Adjust the eyes closer to approximately -55 and to 100. Decrease both height and length as well to -40 and -95.
Nose: Increase the nose width to around 20 and height to 75. Increase both length and angle; length to -35 and angle to around 50.
Cheek and Mouth: Minor adjustments if desired.
Jaw: Hulk Hogan has a strong jaw so increase the length to approximately 55. Add thickness to around 45 and decrease outline to around -25.
Ear and Age: Keep both at default.
Next up is full body scaling to add appropriate proportions to Hulk Hogans body parts.
Head: Decrease width to -30 and increase depth a bit to around 25. Adjust length negatively to around -25.
Neck: Increase the width and depth of Hulk Hogans neck to around 45, 45.
Chest: Increase the width and depth of his chest to 35, 20.
Shoulders: Decrease the weight and height of Hogans shoulders to around -60, -60.
Abdomen: Increase width of abdomen slightly so hes thick but not fat (around 15). Add depth to Hogans abdomen to around 30. Also increase the length of the abdomen to around 60.
Arms: Make some minor adjustments to Hulks arms by increasing width and depth slightly to around 10. Decrease length to look proportional to around the same figure.
Waist: Adjust the depth of the waist to maintain thickness but not fat. Decrease width slightly to keep Hogans "figure" intact.
Legs: Add depth to his legs.
Height: Hulk Hogan is 67".
Now its time to play dress up!
Arms: Add wrist bands. Select both arms and choose design 1. It looks odd now but you can adjust the length. Change the color to white (by changing shade to mono) and decrease length until Hulk has small bands of white tape around his wrists.
Hand Accessories: Use #8 or #9 and change color to white for taped fingers.
Lower Body Underwear: Select #4 and change color to Hulk Hogans trademark yellow (around -65, 9 but adjust as desired).
Knee Pads: Select both legs and #5. Adjust color to red.
Shoes: Select #2 and adjust color to the same as Hogans underwear.
Youve just completed Hulk Hogan! Add the finishing touches by adjusting his attributes, entrance, and move set.
Hulks attributes are certainly subjective but use the following is an example. Youll need plenty of experience points to reach these levels.
Strength: 9.5
Submission: 6
Durability: 10
Technique: 7.5
Speed: 6
Charisma: 10
To change Hulk Hogans entrance, go to "Create a Move Set" and open up Hogan. Under "Bases" youll see the option for entrance. Choose movie "Logo" (or any other one you wish) and for moves select "Original 14" for a Hogan entrance (though a Hollywood Hogan entrance). Finally, for music select whichever you desire (or hum "Real American" to yourself as Hogan enters the ring), though "Original 21" has a retro 80s vibe to it.
All thats left is the move set. Hulk Hogans move set is included in the game but must be unlocked by completing legend challenges. Once you have completed all challenges, select move set #23 for your Hulk Hogan created wrestler. Now you can atomic leg drop any opponent in the game!
