WWE 2K14 slated for October 29 release

2K Sports' wrestling game WWE 2K14 to arrive in October this year for the Xbox 360 and PS3.

2K Sports' upcoming professional wrestling game WWE 2K14 has been scheduled for an October 29 release on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, parent company Take-Two Interactive has announced.

The date was unveiled in Take-Two Interactive's report for the 2013 fiscal year ending March 31. WWE 2K14 is being developed by Yuke's (Rumble Roses, WWE SmackDown vs. Raw series) and Visual Concepts (NBA series).

Take-Two Interactive acquired the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) license for video games earlier this year following THQ's bankruptcy. The multi-year licensing agreement will see WWE games continue to be developed by Yuke's.

The new partnership nullifies previous WWE and Yuke's contracts, allowing the companies to sign new deals with Take-Two Interactive. As part of the deal, THQ will pay WWE $650,000 in royalty payments for games sold while under bankruptcy protection.

hope this is on PC. Been wanting a WWE game for PC for ages. Since NBA2K is so awesome on PC, I hope this is too. Yukes is still developing the game. THQ was the PUBLISHER...THQ and Yukes are not the same thing. THQ doesn't make the game , they oversee the game and publish the game. Like THQ use to Publish Company of Heroes, Relic makes it. Like Activision Publishes Call Of Duty , they don't make it, they just fund it.

WWE 13 was the best WWE game in a long time (besides All Stars). I'm hoping this one doesn't let me down like WWE 12 did. 12 was a huge step backwards from 11.

Last WWE game I played was Smackdown: Here Comes the Pain. It remains my favorite wrestling game along others such as WCW vs NWO Revenge, Smackdown 2: Know Your Role,  and WWF No Mercy.

This game is gonna suck....The THQ guys had years to master making a good wrestling game and time to refine the game engine....some company is gonna now pick it up? sorry no....this is where it all goes to shit...

Oh come on...Yukes? I thought they were booted to the curb after the buyout.

SO when does Yukes get replaced with someone competent? Please tell me we are done with them after this game, which will doubtlessly be a bugged, clunky, and woefully substandard compared to WWE games made over 10 years ago.

I wonder if they will bring back the attitude era superstars in this game.

I wonder if this game will have any kind of theme like the last game had Attitude Era events and superstars.

I can't remember the last WWE game I've played.

I was hoping for a new developer when 2k got the license. Yuke's are getting too rusty with each year release, despite the fact that 13 was better than 12

Cool.  I hope they let the Divas fight in all the same matches as Superstars.  Kinda lame that the Divas are regulated to Mixed Gender Tag Matches and can't go into the Royal Rumble.

I guess they're focusing on current gen.Makes sense.

Yukes needs to be let go. They are the reason the game has been crap for so long. Bring back AKI ASAP!

If they make it for PC they would try to make it as unfriendly to mods as possible. They can't have us PC gamers making our own updated rosters, belts, improved graphics for the character models, whatever we want to add to increase the replay value, which would ruin their plans to sell all that to us as DLC.

As far as PC goes, its already beyond next gen right now, and by 2014 we will be even further ahead, but likely still playing console ports that still don't make use of our hardware, after 8 years of that, I decided to build as futureproof a PC within my budget as possible and will likely play games long after devs have to resort to tricks like with the PS3 and X360, and will likely maintain parity with the PC, which I don't like and will never like parity, because its basically saying to me, all that money I spend on a high end gaming rig and upgrades is a waste as games will only use as much power as the consoles have. This doesn't work when PC hardware manufacturers want us to upgrade and we have little reason to.

If the PC version of this game requires a 360 gamepad, I've still got my wireless windows 360 controller, so I can play sitting in a recliner or on the couch if I really wanted to. I'm not against using the 360 gamepad, especially when I can play from anywhere in my room. I don't think a PC version will happen, but who knows, it would be nice to see how it would look on PC hardware.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't 2k make that awful ECW game back in the 90s?  I hope they learned something from THQ.  I also hope they don't forget the CAW community; especially those of us more interested in creation and simulation instead of gorram online play.

Wait, so Yukes aren't making this anymore? YES! YES! YES! YES! YES!

Damn, I just read it properly. Same developers. Well my hopes for some decent changes to the formula were raised and then destroyed just as quickly. It's like those brief moments before the Cena music hits...

@deon99 I hope not, I miss the Season mode from the past games. Whereyou can make a superstar and take him from jobber to Main Eventer
But if they do have a theme the ruthless aggression era would be awesome! but won't happen because most of the stars in that era involved WCW/ECW superstars most of which are in TNA.  And of course they won't add Benoit

@rookiesniper195 no one really wants to put their game out on the Wii U because they will most likely not make any money from it.The only thing that will sell are the Nintendo exclusives.Everything else is dead in the water.

I agree, they did great with No Mercy, WrestleMania 2000 and the WCW/nWo games.

GSGuy321

@Evil_Rage I never understood that. I think game producers should embrace the modding community. They should embrace the whole shebang.. editing, modding, improving, etc... like Skyrim. I think they would sell more tbh. It's the only reason I buy  games. And everyone knows that the modding community only updates the most recent release of a game. Once a new version comes out the modders move primarily to that version, which makes it fresh and relevant.

Again, never understood the stance against modding. It makes the game 10x better.

@Gamer3344 If you thought that statement was meant to be taken serious, then you missed the joke.  Nothing these guys say or do is meant to be taken at face value.  It's all an act.

For example: CM Punk portrays himself in the ring as a "villain" but in real life he's a nice guy involved in charities, and was often picked on by bullies as a child.

o016945

@Uesugi-dono 2K didn't exist until 1999. Visual Concepts, at that year, was the only "2K developer". In their past, they made NBA Action 98 for the Saturn, some EA Sports games (including Madden, hockey, and baseball" as well as Clayfighter and Desert Strike.

So, you are wrong. I believe the publisher was Acclaim, which is a company that has made no good games and had a shitty reputation for releasing nothing but crap. They no longer exist.

GTAsoldier
GTAsoldier

@Uesugi-dono Correct me if I'm wrong, but 2K never made any ECW games. Acclaim made the only 2 ECW games that exist (Anarchy Rulz and Hardcore Revolution) after WWF/E chose THQ as their new developer in '99. Those 2 games were basically direct WWF Attitude clones with ECW wrestlers and stuff in it.

Ice-Cube
Ice-Cube

@Uesugi-dono You're right they did, but it wasn't developed by Yuke's. So now that they have the original WWE developers from THQ, it still should be decent, despite their last few batches.

I hope 2K can make a change here and send it in the right direction, this franchise has been a mess lately.

GTAsoldier

@burgeg At least the developers for the NBA 2K series are joining in, so not all hope is lost....

@alastor529 @deon99 Benoit was a  great wrestler i wish was till around.Ruthless aggresion would mean brock lesner and John cena would have to run the game. And since they can't get Kurt Angle what's the point?

@S1mmas I miss being able to have the chicks duke it out with the guys... but if that is WWE's chocie then that explains why it's been like that for the past couple games.

ugzravage
ugzravage

@o016945 They (Acclaim) didn't develop many good games, but they sure had several that they published. The ports of Mortal Kombat 1 & 2, Burnout 2, The Dave Mirra BMX series was solid before it went off the rails, Smash TV port, Turok (n64), and Spiderman & Venom: Maximum Carnage for snes.

Uesugi-dono
Uesugi-dono

@GTAsoldier  I think you may be right. Now that you mention Acclaim I'm almost certain you are.

o016945
o016945

@ugzravage @o016945 I don't really consider ports as part of their background, but you mentioned two games that were merely average. If you couple their sister brand (LJN), it is amazing how long they been around. I found early enough in my childhood to stay away from both logos when going to rent a game. They have 100's of games in their library and you could only mention 2. Trickstyle for Dreamcast wasn't terrible either, so now we are at a total of 3. Some people liked their baseball outing on PS2/Xbox, so now we are at 4. They were just terrible.

I still consider none of the 4 actual "good" games.

o016945
o016945

@deathblow3 @Uesugi-dono @GTAsoldier where are you guys getting the information? EA never published any of the N64 games. That was still THQ. Acclaim published games before THQ (like the arcade game and the SNES/Genesis, as well as NES)

deathblow3
deathblow3

@Uesugi-dono @GTAsoldier acclaim made the ecw games and EA made the wcw games 2k has never been involve because at the time the were owned by sega and doing sega's sports line on the dreamcast. 2k /espn football
