Would you pay $270 for this Lego: The Hobbit PS3 bundle?

New bundle to include 500GB system and copy of the game; launching this spring.

Sony has announced that a new special Lego: The Hobbit PlayStation 3 bundle coming to North America this spring alongside the game. The $270 bundle includes a 500GB PS3 system and a copy of Lego: The Hobbit, which is based on the events of the first two Hobbit films from Peter Jackson.

Unfortunately, Sony did not share any images of the special Hobbit PS3 bundle as part of its announcement on the PlayStation Blog. But we'd have to guess that the packaging will feature popular Hobbit characters like Bilbo, Gandalf, and Thorin's Company of Dwarves.

Lego: The Hobbit is in development for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, Wii U, 3DS, PC, and Mac. The game is set around the first two films of Jackson's Hobbit trilogy, An Unexpected Journey and Desolation of Smaug.

Playable characters include Bilbo Baggins and Gandalf the Grey, alongside all of the dwarves: Thorin, Fíli, Kíli, Óin, Glóin, Dwalin, Balin, Bifur, Bofur, Bombur, Dori, Nori, and Ori. In the game you'll be able to visit locations like Bag End, Hobbiton, The Misty Mountains, Goblin-town, Mirkwood, and Rivendell.

For more on Lego: The Hobbit, be sure to check out GameSpot editor Shaun McInnis' hands-on preview of the game, where he details five things he learned about dwarves.

I guess PS4 won't be getting very many games soon.

Not really just that the ps4 and xbox one came out and i'm stuck on the fence at what to get i never owned a ps3 i have a 360 but Microsoft has been doing shady business practice's.

So i mean i really don't know what to do i lost my friend over a xbox one i didn't want one at launch i wanted to wait things out he told me i had to and i didn't want to and poof my only friend goes away. That and over  a match of Black ops2.

I can see the grate deals on psn for games per month but that's a rental and i want to own my games Microsoft is now doing just two games a month, but their not all that grate this page is filled with Sony fanboys so take it easy on me okay.

So i just can't justify spending so much on a ps3 this late in the life of it maybe a few years ago i would be all over it.

It's going to be on PS4 and XB1 as well, the article failed to mention that. Not like the premium consoles do much to boost the Lego graphics beyond that of the 360 though. The bundle seems like a dumb idea unless you're really into LOTR

I'm not even going to entertain the idea of getting this game until they bring out the second version of this game with levels from all three movies.

Bloody money grabbing turds.

I love all the complaints how how bad PS3 needs a price drop. I do agree somewhat but at the same time the PS4 has only been out 4 months. It's not like it has hundreds and hundreds of games to play on it. There are only a handful that are only PS4 only. I traded my PS3 in to get my PS4 and have regretted it ever since. Not getting a PS4 mind you just trading in my system. Still so many games I had wanted to play and they will continue to make games for years for the PS3. I imagine near Black Friday or Christmas this year they will announce a pretty good price drop. IMO brand new 250gb shouldn't cost more than $200 max. Maybe like $220 for special edition ones.

$269.99 for a Playstation 3 system with a 500GB HDD and a pack in game The Hobbit. Compared to a Wii U system with 32GB flash memory and a pack in game which is either (windwaker) (Super Mario Bros U)(nintendoland) for $299.99.

This is what is killing the Wii U. For $30.00 less you get a system of equal tech power but with a real hard disc drive instead of just 32GB of flash memory. Plus the system has a much larger library of games. So for the soccer mom buying a console for the kids at Walmart. sees this compared to the Wii U seeing the better value buys The PS3 hobbit bundle.

So yep! I would buy this PS3 bundle for $269.99 But I already have my Playstation 3 superslim system.

The Lego games are alright for co-op A fun beat them up. But way to easy. A lego game can be finished in 1 sitting. The lego series is a bit on the easy side. This is a good first videogame for kids and people who are new to games.

Their has to be about 30 Lego games but this point. This is an O.K series.

I don't get all thoose lego games... if they're good, and stay true to source material, them why not make the same game, w/o the Lego characters... and if they're just mockin the source material, I've already dislike them... Truth is, I never played a lego video game...

No. I love my PS3, but that is too much for a console+game bundle from last gen. The 500gb hard drive doesn't add enough value to justify that extra price. $240 and I would call it a reasonable deal

If they were offering Legos in a Limited Edition aspect, it could have been a great deal.

No. That is still way too expensive for a last gen system.

Why the fuck would I buy this when the PS4 is only $400.  The PS3 needs a pricedrop to about $150.

No I owned a PS3 for four and a half years and it was my least favourite console out of all of the consoles I've owned.

I bought a super slim when my old fat ps3 ylod on me. It was I price of garbage, it took forever to load anything, and lost sync with the controller every time I turned it on. I'm glad I had someone fix my old model, and I can use a reliable, efficient ps3 again. The super slim can sit in my closet along with my barely used xbox360 that was replaced by my new ps4 until I feel like giving them away.

My 60 gig "fat" model still works great.  I'll be getting most new games on the PC.  It's backwards compatible.

If I didn't have a PS3... 500GB PS3 + game + two year warranty (as opposed to used cosnole) I might. The problem is - if you don't own PS3 you don't know how great it is

If I really wanted a new PS3, had any interest in playing LEGO The Hobbit, and had plenty of cash to spare after; then yes. Yes I would.

Depends...if the PS3 case is like a lego base, and I can build on top of it.

pyro1245

@everson_rm  Then it wouldn't be a lego game. They're just quick, funny recaps of movie events without words, but with puzzles, the lego is part of the charm

tom2750

@canuckbiker  there is probably something wrong with the super slim i hat a fat PS3 worked great loved it but i wanted a 500gb hard drive so i sold my fat PS3 to a friend and got the super slim works exactly the same as the fat the only difference is its a bit louder when there is a disc in it and not because there is something wrong with it but because the super slim discs spin they don't have a disc slot/tray thing

@Defender1978  How on earth did you get it to stay alive for so long do you just limit how many hours you play from having it over cook it's self?

@Defender1978 My 60gig died a couple of years ago. I miss the backward compatibility like I miss a relative.

(A relative that you're kind of close to but probably only see each other 2/3 times a year)
