World War Z tie-in on the way

iOS and Android game to launch May 30 ahead of upcoming Brad Pitt movie of the same name.

by

Upcoming Brad Pitt zombie movie World War Z will be accompanied by a game tie-in, Paramount Digital Entertainment has announced.

The World War Z game will be available on iOS and Android devices on May 30, ahead of the film's worldwide release on June 21. The movie focuses on ex-United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Pitt), who travels the world to stop a zombie outbreak.

The game, developed by Chicago-based Phosphor Games Studio, appears to follow a similar track. Its debut trailer (below) shows that players will battle zombies in a variety of scenarios. In one scene, the player uses a crowbar to attack enemies and in another, wields an automatic weapon attached to a helicopter.

The latest game from Paramount Digital Entertainment was a Star Trek: Into Darkness tie-in called Star Trek The Video Game. GameSpot's review of the title found little to enjoy, outside of the voice acting from the film's cast like Chris Pine (Captain Kirk) and Zachary Quinto (Spock).

Maybe at the end it's a good game and all. But I can't help but be scared of yet another crime agains the original book.

I will see the movie, but reluctantly so. I loved the book, but the movie looks like it butchers the source material. The game will only insult it further.

I must've been the only one thinking "the en masse zombie titles are probably over now"...

Yay, I'm glad the patent office tossed out the trademark for that annoying 'MMO' that some company made that got pull off Steam!

Just another zombie game that just so happens to tie in to a novel and movie.

Wow they took what could be a mod for Left4Dead 2 and made a whole game out of it. Looks like it could possibly be more boring and contrived than the Star Trek Into Darkness game.

both the movie and the game look like a utter joke.

This is the biggest news we will ever hear from this game.

They filmed scenes for World War Z in Glasgow and pretended it was Philadelphia. Was weird seeing loads of American street signs and cars around the city centre.

Couldn't care less about any movie tie in games, they are invariably crap.

Oh god, Brad Pitt, I hate you so much for doing this to one of my favorite books ever

The movie trailer alone is bad enough that it doesnt follow the book at all.

War Z, Day Z, World War Z... these titles are so similar and generic I can't keep them apart.

Fuck this, I'll stick with Left For Dead 2, The Walking Dead Survival Instinct, Zombie Driver HD, Burn Zombie Burn, Evil Dead Regeneration, Dead Island, and other games with discernible titles.

I thought this was about War Z for a moment ;v

I actually want to see this movie, though. Could be neat.

World War Z, the book,  would have to be the third in the movie series.  It's the only way it would make sense from what I have seen in the trailers for the movie.  The book is a retrospective(an oral history).  I don't really see how this game can be a tie in unless it has nothing to do with the book.  I guess we'll see.

1.  lead all the zombies to a roof

2. use a helicopter to get off

3. all the zombies commit suicide

4. zombie problem solved!

Okay, I'm going to ask a stupid question: why do these tie-ins continue to be made? Does it really help to promote the movie or the game itself? I mean, they are hardly ever considered to be good games. Is it really less profitable to not make a tie-in...?

IMO anything with or related to Brad Pitt is bad.

@Earl-of-Death By seeing the zombie run, I would say the movie only (and thank God, the novel have suffered enough already)

@DrKill09 what other game allows you to roam around a several hundred kilometer map while trying to survive other zombies and players? (im talking about dayz by the way, not warz.)

Poodger

@DrKill09 World War Z is a fantastic book that has been around for about 10 years, predating the similar sounding games. That it happens to share a similar sounding name with War Z is truly unfortunate.

@snova9308

1. What if you get caught on the way up?

2. Where are you going to get a helicopter?

3. "ALL" the zombies? If there was a pandemic of that magnitude, you would be talking about millions of zombies across the scope of the entire planet. This strategy may work for kill like... 100 of them tops... and then of course...

4. The zombie problem would not be solved.

@snova9308 gl using this same technique for billions and billions of zombies.

@wexorian @2bitSmOkEy It does have that quick-buck aroma going on but Brad Pitt doesn't normally disappoint.  Tough call.

The game on the other hand......
