World of Tanks studio acquires F.E.A.R. 3 dev

Wargaming buys Day 1 Studios for $20 million; now working on unannounced console game.

by

World of Tanks studio Wargaming today announced it had acquired F.E.A.R. 3 developer Day 1 Studios for $20 million and is putting the team to task on an unannounced console title. The company will be rebranded Wargaming West.

Wargaming is developer of numerous PC massively multiplayer online games, including World of Tanks, World of Warships, and World of Warplanes.

This marks Wargaming's first-step effort in the console space. Platforms for the company's new console game were not announced, nor was a timetable for its release.

Wargaming West currently has a handful of open positions, including calls for an IT Administrator, a producer, and multiple part-time quality assurance staffers.

Day 1 was founded in 2001 by ex-FASA Interactive veteran Denny Thorley and Microsoft Game Studios' TJ Wagner. Out of the gate, the studio scored a hit with 2002's MechAssault for the original Xbox. After a MechAssault follow-up in 2004, the studio created the original property Fracture for LucasArts and then took over for Monolith on Warner Bros. Interactive's F.E.A.R. 3.

GREAT.

This way who knows? Maybe they'll leave the next FEAR to a COMPETENT developer, not a toady-CoD-lover one.

The studio that didn't make FEAR3 as bad as I expected? Oh, I'm wondering what kind of project is that.

I hope they work on new IP's. We don't need anymore F.E.A.R. games, they were good while they lasted.

$20 million?

Would it be crazy to say I think that's cheap for the game industry?

@MW2ismygame Hold your horses. World of Warplanes is still in closed beta. Give them time to fully release that before they move on to a new game.

That said, I completely agree that the World of Warships beta cannot come soon enough.
