World of Battleships MMOG anchoring soon

World of Tanks and World of Warplanes team announces upcoming free-to-play naval MMO game to be based on sea battles of the 20th century.

by

Wargaming.net, the team behind the team-based massively multiplayer online game World of Tanks, has announced the final game in its "World of" trilogy, which will focus on naval warfare.

Battleships!

World of Battleships will be a free-to-play naval MMO game based on sea battles throughout the 20th century, offering a variety of warships to provide various tactical opportunities based on individual combinations of firepower, speed, armor, and endurance. The game will also feature naval maps with changing weather conditions and an economic system that will let players distribute resources between each of the "World of" games.

Wargaming.net is a publisher and developer based in Minsk, Belarus. It is responsible for 2004's Massive Assault series, the Square Enix-published Order of War, and three add-ons for Blitzkrieg II.

I've been playing World of Tanks (same company) for over a year, i've spent the occasional 15$/month to get their "premium" which let's you gain more XP + money per battle. You can play a long time without ever paying a penny, in fact most tankers do that...just takes longer to get what you want.

You can still have maximum fun without paying for bullets. The rewards you receive from winning are more based on your skill, than whether you buy gold bullets anyway. I think its an awesome game, with a great adrenalin rush, disappointment when you lose and euphoria when you win.

Nobody expects you to buy premium ammo, it only rarely used in tournaments and special events... *facepalm*

I'm interested, but not if it has that microtransaction ".05 cents per bullet!" or whatever that World of Tanks had.

Can't wait to jump onto the mic and shout "YOU SANK MY BATTLESHIP!" hoping someone gets the Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey reference.
