Wolfenstein: The New Order launch trailer is here, game arrives next week

Bethesda releases launch trailer for next week's FPS; coming to Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC.

by

Bethesda today released the launch trailer for MachineGames' upcoming first-person shooter Wolfenstein: The New Order, which launches May 20 across consoles and PC. Titled "House of the Rising Sun," the launch trailer sets up the story of protagonist B.J. Blazkowicz and the challenge he faces in bringing down the all-powerful Nazi regime.

Wolfenstein: The New Order is set in an alternate 1960s after the Nazis, thanks to mysterious advanced technology, were able to win World War II. They dominate the world, but as B.J. Blazkowicz, you must band together with other resistance fighters to take them down.

The game launches May 20 for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC. If you preorder, you'll receive guaranteed access to an upcoming beta for a new Doom game. The beta will be held only on Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

Wolfenstein: The New Order could get a sequel, as creative director Jens Matthies said earlier this week that MachineGames has plenty of ideas for a second title. Whether or not his studio will get a chance to comes down to how well the first game sells, he says.

For more on Wolfenstein: The New Order, which features music from Meshuggah guitarist Fredrik Thordendal and is about 20 hours long if you collect everything, be sure to read GameSpot's previous coverage.

After about 8-10 hours when you dolts beat this, you'll be wondering why there's no MP.

No interest in this game. I liked the original, and the one for PS3/360. 4 discs on 360's version, 17 gig install for PS3 (not bad), 47gb for PS4/Xbox One. And the game doesn't even look that great, graphically. I think we're headed for some big trouble, the more advanced games get. Huge HDD, DRM garbage, patches, people wasting 60 bucks on last gen versions. I have a PC, so I think I'll stick to pirating. Sorry, I have better things to spend my hard earned money on.

Looks like the summer drought doesn't exist this year. Wolfenstein, Watch Dogs, and Mario Kart coming out in May should cover it.

I miss Wolf Multiplayer from Return to Castle Wolfenstein.  Spear of Desitiny was an  awesome single player.  I've played Wolf from the beginning (early '90's).  It sucked after RTCW.  I mean major sucked.  I'm tired of getting excited over pretty film clips, only to realize I've been ripped off when the actual game play ends up being horrible; nothing like the trailers they use to bait you with.  Maybe, MAAAYYBEE, Bethesda will not screw this one up.  They already have 1 strike (a fvk'n huge strike) for not including multiplayer  (hint Bethesda!).  I'll wait for the true gaming community to review this after getting it.  I will not buy it new.  I'll buy it used from another gamer.  I'm done being loyal and getting screwed by pretty film clips.  I'll buy from my fellow gaming community.

I lost all "give a f*ck" when I first heard there was no MP. And now that they got the PC jitters and took the classic "Nazl" theme out, replacing it with the generic "Regime"...that was the absolute deal breaker for me. I don't buy from egg shell-walking cowards

Excited for this game, but oddly I enjoyed the German singing more than the trailer for some reason.

So let me understand this: The 360 version comes on 4 discs, but there is no option to just download it to the system from the online store...and the PC version doesn't have a hard copy version, which would also be 4 discs?

have you heard? day 1 patch: 5 to 7 gb ..

with 4 disks on the 360 this is gonna be a long day ..

I've been disappointed with past Wolfenstein revivals over the years.  All I ask for is a game that doesn't suck.  PLEASE let New Order deliver!  I want this to be every bit as awesome as the trailers have made it out to be.

@Wicked869 No multiplayer--to me, that minus is a plus.  It's always "same shiz, different game" when it comes to multiplayer.

@bubba_666 Pirating contributes to all things bad about today's gaming scene, certainly in the case of DRM.

I wouldn't piss on the "true gaming community" if it was on fire .

@cygnus455  Good call. But it looks a kickass story.

I'll probably get Wolfenstein: The New Order... after I hear how it's running initially on PC.

I'm so over buying PC games that don't work for months, then again, it's not a crap Infinity Ward game, so we'll see how well MachineGames do their pre-release testing.

You're not alone. To me watch dogs just looks like GTA with a hacker theme

@bishop60 Im not excited for watchdogs, but ive learned that getting excited for a game only greatens the hight you fall from when the game sucks

cygnus455
cygnus455

@jim_peterson Well, Jim, when you squat like a little girl to pee, none of us in the gaming community can blame ya.  If the gaming community was on fire, you squatting and peeing on it for us would hurt you.  And, we wouldn't want that!  Good thinking Jim. Safety first!!

cygnus455
cygnus455

@Zeussa @cygnus455Yup!  I agree with you Zeussa.  I couldn't believe how bad Call of Duty - Ghost was (Infinity Ward/Activision screwed us!).  What a rip-off.  They screwed all of us loyal players.  I'll never buy another one of their games.  In fact, Because of Infinity Ward/Activision, I will never buy another new game (retail).  I'll simply wait for the gaming community reviews (not those professional reviewers that are bribed with free games and such, or "gamer websites" admin reviews).  I'll read the true gaming community's reviews, and if it's sounds like a good game, I'll buy from a fellow gamer on an, say, auction sight.  And, EA games!!! Don't get me started on the garbage they release with their Battlefield releases....their releases are not even full games.....they are like Beta's that are incomplete!!! Yet they release them at full retail cost to us gamers and totally screw the gaming community.  It all went to hell around the time G4 TV died and we lost Adam Sessler, Morgan Web, and a decent crew of gaming reviews that seemed to hold the developers accountable.  (sorry....had to vent!)  : )

bishop60
bishop60

@Gravity_Slave  Yea i thought the same thing. i mean, 6 years in the development cycle and you would think its gonna be awesome. we'll just have to wait and see. not crossing my fingers on this one.

@PlayStationzone

Do you even know what next gen means?

Zeussa
Zeussa

@cygnus455  Vent the volcano lol.

Yeah man, there's too much money and more smart indie studios in games now for any major to fry their name with a buggy first day release!! IW and COD can fry in hell for what they did with Ghosts.

t's gotta be presentation polished out of the box, or half baked developers better get out of the kitchen!

I'll be trusting the dedicated gamers forums for my reviews in future, before I buy.
