Activision has announced that it has shipped more than 1 million copies of Return to Castle Wolfenstein, the popular World War II-era first-person shooter created by id Software, Gray Matter Interactive Studios, and Nerve Software. According to the publisher, sales of the game have been strong in the US, UK, and Germany and have exceeded company expectations. The game has consistently placed among the top 10 best-selling PC games in the US since its launch on November 20, according to NPD Techworld. It recently won GameSpot's awards for best multiplayer action game and best technical graphics of 2001, and it was named one of GameSpot's top 10 games of 2001.
Return to Castle Wolfenstein is set in Germany during World War II, and it lets players assume the role of an Allied special forces agent sent behind enemy lines to investigate Nazi experiments with the supernatural.
