Amazon goes monthly.

Just weeks before Netflix raises the price of its service for millions of members, Amazon has announced an aggressive pricing move that undercuts the House of Cards provider. Amazon is now offering US subscribers a $9/month option for Prime Video alone, while $11/month gets you the video service and other Prime benefits, including free, two-day shipping and more.

The new options became available on Sunday evening (via Deadline).

Previously, Amazon Prime was only offered on an annual basis. The new, one-month options don't replace the year-long subscription packages, however, as those will remain available.

It hasn't always been the case, but Amazon and Netflix are now competitors in the video streaming space, battling for viewers and subscribers. As mentioned, this new Amazon subscription option comes just weeks before Netflix will raise the price of its base streaming package to $10/month for many.

Amazon Prime's existing $100/year option remains the best value if you want Prime Video and the other Prime benefits. However, a nice perk of the new, monthly options is that they can be canceled at any time.
