Witcher comic book revealed

CD Projekt Red teams with Dark Horse Comics for new series based on RPG; first installment out March 2014.

Today, Dark Horse Comics and CD Projekt Red announced an all-new comic book series based on The Witcher franchise of role-playing games. The companies revealed a partnership last week, teasing that the announcement of a new series would be made today at New York Comic-Con.

The Witcher comic series will introduce a new adventure starring monster hunter Geralt of Rivia--the main character from the Witcher games. Witcher #1 will be available for purchase beginning March 19, 2014.

"Travelling near the edge of the Black Forest, in the land of the Angren, monster hunter Geralt meets a widowed man whose dead and murderous wife resides in an eerie mansion known as the House of Glass. With its endless rooms and horror around every corner, Geralt will have to use all his witcher prowess to solve the manor’s mystery and survive."

The Witcher comic book series is being written by DC and Marvel Comics author Paul Tobin, with art from Joe Querio (Lobster Johnson, B.P.R.D.).

"We're very happy to be once again expanding The Witcher universe," said CD Projekt Red studio head Adam Badowski in a statement.

The Witcher series of games--based on the novels from Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski--have sold more than 5 million copies worldwide to date. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be released in 2014 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

I'm actually more interested to see what Andrzej Sapkowski said about that! Will the comic book rely more on the game version or the book version of, well, everything... from characters to the world... (As we all know, everything made from the books tend to deviate from the original. sometimes more, sometimes less)

I'm more of a novel reading (love the Witcher novels) than comic reading person, but a Witcher comic might be good. I like the art style at least.

I hope that comic book writer has read at least one Sapkowski's book.

I'd suggest a movie being made but then Hollywood would destroy it. :(

Yeah! I loved Witcher 1 and 2, i really felt that the developers wanted to please me, and i just know that Witcher 3 is goint to revolutionize video games, there is nothing better than playing as Jedi in the Lord of the Rings

This is all good, but I'm growing a bit restless. Gameplay is what we need!

@Vojtass Nah, he's good to go as long as he has read fifty shades of grey. This way, he will just have to concentrate on Geralt's sexual adventures and the comic book will be a super hit. :p

@Stevo_the_gamer Hm, let's HBO finish GOT and after that they can make a Witcher series. Or at the same time, I don't care.

I can't see any other company making a decent Witcher (mini-)series or movie tbh. Too much violence, mature themes, explicit sex and swearing in the books and games....

@SurfaceNerd Jedi in the Lord of the rings? Lolwut! That sounds like someone saying "Use the Force, Harry!".

@RC-Sev Don't be angry. We have to wait over a year (YEAR!) for game release. Still a lot of time for tens of gameplay videos.

@RC-Sev Hey, keep cool. CDPR won't show us gameplay until they think it's good enough for public presentation which is awesome. They should take their time to make it really good (the gameplay vid and the game of course).... ;)
