Witcher 3 has 100 hours of total playtime, dev says

CD Projekt Red claims main story accounts for 50 hours, with another 50 for "additional stories"; new screenshots released.

'

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt boasts 100 hours of total playtime, developer CD Projekt Red said today. The main narrative accounts for about 50 hours, while "additional stories" add a further 50 hours, the company claimed.

In addition, CD Projekt Red released new images of The Witcher 3 today. Set on the islands of Skellige, the screenshots are based on an early version of the game.

They do not make use of new rendering technology, which will be used in the final game, the developer said. The Witcher 3 is due out in 2014 for "high-end" platforms, including the PlayStation 4.

Confirmed : Geralt can swim , jump and use boat .  Game will support nVidia Phsyx on PC , no DX9 support . You can only drink potions outside the combat but since Geralt is Witcher , he can control his organs so you can activate the effect of the potion during combat (Now this is common feature or alchemy based skill ability , is yet to be confirmed) .

I do not ordinarily comment on anything anywhere, but as I am a long-time member of GameSpot, I will offer my voice on the matter: Wow. The Witcher 2 was the most complex game that I ever played, yet it was so very simple. The routes that you could take w/ character customization and leveling were superb. Combat was simply the best I've played in any RPG and I've played Dark Souls, all 3 Mass Effect games, Fallout, Skyrim, etc. The game originally looked superb and I played it on the Xbox. I even enjoyed the backwards difficulty (tough in beginning, easier towards end) because it made me feel like I was doing something. Storytelling was mature and handled correctly, even with the nudity. The only problems I found were with the map/waypoint (as others have said) and traveling. I do not mind a game w/o fast travel, but at least allow me to run. The jogging mechanic was BS. Also, hopefully next gen will take away load times: One can only hope. That all being said, I'm excited as you all should be too.

Oh dear. 50 hours for the main campaign means there is some kind of grinding or filler content extended it out to be that long. I'd rather have 20 hours of well-paced main campaign and 80 hours of "additional stories".

I like games that make me want to walk around and dont make me feel forced to. If they can spice up travel, then i have no problem if they leave out a fast travel.

New engine and new gen. Im definitely looking forward to what they'll make of it

40 hours or 100 hours..i dnt care. But i wont foget and forgive uyou guyz easily for ruining the combat in witcher 2.Stick to Witcher 1 this time

This is gonna be GOTY, for sure. Also, I hope this game does NOT have fast travel. That way, there would be no excuse to simply go from quest to quest and not experience the world around you. AND, it would be more realistic.

after 2 games you guys should know how to code by now, you made a 10000000.00% improvement over w1, but w2 even the enhanced version still had a lot of quirks in it, you can do better.  And for christs sake w2 he's a witcher a monster hunter, how about more monsters in the w3 and some decent AI, AI in w2 was a fucking joke.

including the 10 hour you spend walking around because there is no fast travel

More content is always good. Makes me feel like I spent $60 on a product that truly deserves it. Really excited about this coming to the PS4. Now I need to watch some playthroughs of the first two of the series so I can be up-to-speed.

100 hours is terrific news. I'm a slow player and will probably do all the side quests, so that 100 hrs is more like 125-30 hrs. Plus I like to read most things :). I finished W1 and Steam read 76 hrs.  playing W2  now but golly i'm not a fan of that combat.

Is this another Skyrim game with pretty graphics and crappy combat?

lo_crow98
lo_crow98

Those gameplay graphics look hardcore impressive, best I've seen in a long time.  I love Elder Scrolls but combat and actual gameplay felt pretty bland and seemed more a modder's paradise than a very immersive experience.  Witcher 3 has a lot of potential...

CD Projeckt knows what's up. They made better use of the Aurora Engine than BioWare, and turned out Witcher 2, the sequel that BioWare failed in DA2.

...I just really like these Polish people.

New info from PCGames:

The game will have 100 hours of playtime . 50 for main story and 50 for side quests

Character will not level up by killing foes , you'll gain XP by doing quests . Monster hunting is used for the livings and crafting

The Game have 3 different Epilogues , each with different locations and story . Each epilogue is One Hour Long and have different version of it as well based on your decision

World in the end will have 36 possible states , all based on your decisions

PC is lead platform , their games sold better on PC AND they are making a PC game , however luckily both next gen consoles are similar to PC so they'll be getting port , they were pretty clear about being PC developers

No wii U version

No The Witcher 2 for PS 3

Choices from the 2nd game will be carried out in the PC version of the 3rd but it won't effect the main plot dramatically but characters will be affected since the game focuses on Geralt's personal quest

Enemies won't level up

Each NPC will have it's own daily routine which will bring open world to life

Game will be DX11 and will push hardware to limits , they want to make it best looking game ever

They'll stick with their policy of releasing free content

Game will be available on all digital distribution PC platforms , steam , gog and so on .

By reading books , listening people or killing monsters by yourself will increase your knowledge about the species and you can disable their glands by attacking in focus mode which will disable enemy abilities . For example = Destroying Vampire's gland  will disable poisoning abilities .

In TW 2 Geralt had 20 fighting moves , TW3 will have 96 .

PC and Console versions have different UI .

Game will come out in 2014 on PC and High End Consoles .

They are also considering "Transmitter Implant" for Cyberpunk 2077 which will translate NPCs non English Language into English in exact same Accent (They are considering , That's not final . Still great idea , No.?)

am I the only one who sees this as overkill? I'd be happy with 70 and that's pushing it. I just want a game to play, beat and know the story - not to live. I like the Witcher games so far.

Ive come to love the witcher series..They are what developers should be doing with rpgs, just like obsidion..They also dont need to add stupid multiplaying in there games..Like the dragon age series give me a break..Cant wait to delve into the wichter series again )..

I spent over 50 hours playing through The Witcher 2 the first time, so this one will probably be over 100 hours for me. Wow! I can't wait.

This game does look sick.  Haven't played any of the previous Witcher games but the Game Informer article caught my interest, and if this is true, that is a TON of content.  The key thing is though, it has to be FUN content and not just mindless grinding.

xSagez

SoulStrike_X

Honestly, I don't care about how many hours of gameplay it will give me.

The main reason I enjoy the Witcher series is because of its really mature gameplay mechanics / combat system and wonderful storytelling. Those are the two things which I feel CDProjekt do really well. I'll buy the game simply to experience those two things.

Secondly, the new game is supposed to be an open world, which I feel if you consider the level of detail and effort that CDProjekt put in their games, its not surprising that it will provide at least 100 hours of gameplay. ( Open world will be good. I hated the long and frequent load times between regions in the first game. )

This is one of those few video games that do justice to the book series from which it was inspired from. I love the books too, can't wait for more of them to be translated to english.
