Nintendo recently revealed the first eight titles for the Virtual Console channel for the Wii U on its official Facebook page.

Kirby's Adventure for the NES is one of the first titles on the Wii U Virtual Console app.

The initial titles are Excitebike, Ice Climbers, Kirby's Adventure, Punch Out, F-Zero, Super Mario World, Balloon Fight, and Donkey Kong Jr.. These games were previously on the Wii version of the Virtual Console app. Players who owned the Wii Virtual Console versions can repurchase the Wii U Virtual Console versions for a discounted price.

Wii U Virtual Console games features off-TV play on the Wii U gamepad and Miiverse integration. The service will be live this week. For more news on the Wii U, check out GameSpot's coverage.

Splendid, I always liked the way we can play the games of old on our older consoles or on the WII, that way one console does it all rather then having to bring out separate consoles for separate games. I must also emphasize that nobody is forced to buy anything, that is our right as blackmail and forced purchasing is against the law; but I welcome the move because if anybody missed out for whatever reason, the opportunity is now here. You only pay if you want more playing options, but what you pay for on the wii is still applicable and can be transferred anyway and will not spoil. I personally would like more HD remakes of Titles, the windwaker was great news now we just need  OOT, MM, SM64, MK64, SF64/LW64, F zero X, besides others such as Capcom are doing reboots of their various franchises, otherwise known as milking. For example, a certain Marvel VS Capcom 3 and Marvel VS Capcom 3 ultimate with hardly any difference; the difference should have been available via DLC.

They want you to pay for these titles again, oh but for a discounted price, ooooooooh. For many Nintendo fans this would likely be the third time they buy this game. The original back in the day, then on the Wii virtual console, and again on the Wii U virtual console. What I like about Android is that when I buy a game on one Android device it's linked to my Google account and I have it available (at no extra cost) on all of my other Android devices. There's no reason Nintendo can't do this. Clearly they're being greedy.

Holy crap, Nintendo. Don't bury us in a flood of titles or anything.

I'm glad to be a PC gamer. It doesn't matter if I change my rig, I don't need to buy again my games in Steam or any other PC game store.

I want Kickle Cubicle, King of the Ring, and Pro Wrestling. The games I did play when I was a kid. Not the games I didn't play.

"Players who owned the Wii Virtual Console versions can repurchase the Wii U Virtual Console versions for a discounted price."

So if another company makes something like this, it's the end of the world. But if Nintendo does this, people praise Nintendo. Man, I don't want to live in this world anymore.

Ok, so when is EarthBound coming to VC?

Nintendo could have just ported the entire Wii VC over to Wii U and be done with it.  Instead of releasing the Entire VC over again. Just to add a Mii verse comminty for each game.

Seriously Nintendo is going make everybody who already bought games on VC rebuy the games. Nintendo really does suck and they dont care about there Fans like Sony does. Microsoft doesn't care about Fans either. No wonder Nintendo profits are down.

Disappointing list really, Now I'm starting to wonder what nintendo was doing in the last 6months

It's a pretty sad list, especially considering half of the 8 games are already on the Wii U virtual console. Then the rest, excluding Super Mario World, are just not as fun today as they were back in the 80's. I think they could have made better picks, or at least made more variety. Looking forward to chronicling my adventures through SMW either way, tho. But still... I will be disappointed if it actually doesn't launch until Friday since I'm off today and tomorrow from work this week, then I work Friday and the weekend, and I'll barely be home again until a week later. I'd like to play on my day off! lol

GET AN EMULATOR AND TELL NINTENDO TO **** ITSELF!

You buy the game and now you have to pay AGAIN???? No thanks!

@matrixman2k But like you miss the important "catch"  here tool...that if you paid for this content on the previous system and you purchase the new one you have to RE-BUY them. It is FORCED on the consumer. You have no other choice to get content you paid for on the newer system. Like you want to suck their slong..like go ahead..just don't do it publicly and please don't insult our intelligence just because your a retarded fanboy.

racerxgundam

@kohle36 Also..please don't include highly sought after fan favorites, like the mother series. Also give us the bland version of punch-out...cuz no one would go nuts over the original mike tyson's punchout with an altered face tattooed sprite.

@darkeyez81 Yes, thanks for pointing that out. I forgot to mention that Steam allows us to do the same thing. Buy a game only once and you can play it on any PC and the future Steambox.

@zzamaro Another company would charge you something like $5 for it though and I picked up Kirby and Punch Out before this update even (one just had to look for the on the e shop) and I paid $.30 each.  So what is the discounted price going to be, something like $.20 or a quarter?

oldmanstauf
oldmanstauf

@Megavideogamer It would seem to make sense, but I'm uncertain if GamePad functionality as well as controller set up and restore point ability would work by just porting over the games.

oldmanstauf

@BryanParksSuper They're not making anyone buy anything again. Not sure where the misconception is coming from. You can continue to play what you bought for no additional fee.

@darkfiercelink They have been developing the next smash bros, 3d mario, mario kart, 2 zeldas, xenoblade 2, pikmin 3...

@Discomaster Just to clear things up but Super Mario World came out in 1991 that makes it the 90's not 80's and All the Super Mario Bros games are still fun today as they were the day they came out..  I take a Super Mario game over COD or Halo any day...

and that, my friend, is the reason why my tv is hooked to my pc through HDMI. No need for a Nintendo console, no credit card, no need to buy 2 or 3 times the same game.

@marceldelta You don't have to pay again. If you bought them on the Wii Virtual Console, you can still play them there. However, if you want the convenience of playing it on the GamePad, pony up the extra buck. It's completely optional.

@baxwam @GSJones1994 K. I guess I'll pick it up for my SNES too while I'm waiting.

@Prime_28 @darkfiercelink They don't get any passes for Pikmin 3. Try the last 5 years. They DO have a lot in the works, but to be fair, they haven't done anything notable on console since they blew their wad in 2011.

darkfiercelink
darkfiercelink

Yea because they work sooo hard that pikmin got delayed multiples time and I'm pretty sure X is Mono job

marceldelta

@oldmanstauf @marceldelta Oh, it's optional? No s***, thanks for sharing! I thought they were going to pull a gun at me and demand me to buy, pay, advertise on the streets!

If you buy a game from Nintendo, doesn't matter where/how/why it should be in your Cloud and you should be able to get it on any Nintendo console you ever happened to purchase!!!!

You got my money, and now you want it again? No deal!

zzamaro
zzamaro

@Cypress131@Serpentes420@zzamaroReasonable? Do you find reasonable that around 30 years old games are around $5? SNES gamesaround $8? and N64 around $10?

Old or new pc games cost much lower than that.

Sure makes you wonder what the point is of releasing a console to get a one year head start before next gen ones come out if you don't have hardly any games lined up for the entire year...

kohle36
kohle36

@Prime_28 @darkfiercelink Sorry, 2010. Skyward Sword aside, we've been pretty much left out to dry since then. I initially thought they were gearing up for the WiiU release, but now I'm just baffled what's taking so long. At this rate by the time the system has an even moderate lineup, it's going head to head with the next-gen consoles.

Slim02
Slim02

@oldmanstauf @marceldelta Yes in Wii Mode not in Wii U mode and that what people are saying to play it in Wii U mode you have to pay again for the same games..

oldmanstauf
oldmanstauf

@marceldelta @oldmanstauf If you buy a VC title on the Wii you can transfer it to the Wii U free of charge and continue to play it there without paying anything extra. What exactly is your complaint? That your copy of Zelda II you bought back in the 80's isn't free to play on the Wii U? Go back and play it on the NES then. You don't have to fork out any more money.
