Wii U and 3DS-focused Nintendo Direct tomorrow

Latest online briefing to provide updates on summer Wii U and 3DS games and discuss future Wii U titles.

Nintendo will discuss future 3DS and Wii U games tomorrow during the latest Nintendo Direct online video briefing, the Mario maker announced today.

The Nintendo Direct briefing will provide updates on this summer's Wii U and 3DS titles and also shed light on Wii U titles to be released this fall and "onward."

The briefing will take place through a special Nintendo website on May 17 at 7 a.m. PDT/10 a.m. EDT. GameSpot will have full coverage of the announcements.

The Wii U has struggled since launch, selling 3.45 million units worldwide and reportedly only 55,000 systems in the United States during April. Nintendo has apologized for a lack of software, saying this will be corrected beginning in August with the release of Pikmin 3.

The all-new 3D Mario game for the Wii U announced in January is rumored to launch by October. Nintendo also has a new Mario Kart game in development for the system, as well as a Smash Bros. title and two Legend of Zelda games, among others.

Oh look! Nintendo is making MORE of the same 6 games they have made since 1984 over and over and over again!  Need a NEW game? How about our 167th version of Super Mario! Not interested in that? Want some AWESOME Nintendo innovation? How about ANOTHER ZELDA GAME!!! No? Need something really new and creative? How about another Pikmin game! Nintendo has lost it's way and it's failure is becoming increasingly obvious. Even for long time fans.

Loving Pikmin 3! And Sonic Lost World looks like a Space, Mario Galaxy spin off, which looks amazing!

Ok Nintendo, this is your chance to show me that everyone at the office is not asleep under their desks.

Honestly do not understand Nintendo's thinking with their marketing strategy lately..  It's good for those that already own one of their systems, and yes it's good for their core gamers.  But pulling out of the biggest media covered computer game event of the year was a HUGE mistake in my opinion.  It truly baffles me.

Aside from ourselves on here the average gamer probably doesn't check gaming websites, it's all word-of-mouth and whatever adverts they see on TV.  At least with E3 though the coverage actually makes it onto the national news (in the UK anyway), Nintendo is now going to miss out on that altogether.

I seriously want them to pick their game up with the WiiU because it's beginning to look doomed before it's even had chance.  Release a 3rd person open-world Pokemon RPG for the thing and I'm straight in!

I hope we can get some new info about that new Monolift Soft game! I doubt it's actually a Xenoblade sequel, especially one that continues on the storyline, but I have hope!

August - Pikmin

September - Rayman

October - Mario....doubtful

November - ???

December - ???

3rd Party support - none

Things are really looking up for Nintendo.  Somehow E3 is going to save the day.

I find it funny how in every Nintendo related article about the WiiU everyone flames the crap of Nintendo. "oh Nintendo will file for bankruptcy soon" "Wii U is a fail" ect, but in every 3DS article everyone praises them for their killer line up and how much ass its kicking compared to the vita.

Seriously, 3DS was off to a rough start too...look where we are now.

Wii U will be doing just fine by the end of the year. Ubisoft is the only smart publisher right now supporting the Wii U. It'll catch on with the mainstream eventually.

And by mainstream I mean every individual who doesn't check gaming websites regularly.

Once again, they're using Patcher as if what he says is the real, the actual data, and not some "forecasting" he pulls from his ass. Last news I read here about Patcher he was claiming Nintendo would post annual losses and they actually posted profits (and that's only one in a long run of "mistakes"), so forgive me if I'm not readily willing to treat what Patcher says as the truth (for those without context here, I'm talking about the "reportedly only 55,000 systems in the United States during April".

The way I see it, Nintendo is doing just fine & this proves they don't need the E3 anymore.

Nintendo as a gaming company has failed. They are pretty much the next generation of Atari. They have screwed themselves with the Wii U. No true gamer is gonna even bother buying nor supporting the POS.

blah blah blah same 4 games over and over again. rinse and repeat.......getting stale can't imagine why they are struggling..

I love how people are bashing this as if the Nintendo direct has already happened.

As a Wii U owner, and seeing how Nintendo is not doing a big showcase event like they normally do at E3 this year, I feel this could be a make or break moment for the Wii U. I like Nintendo, always have, but I like games in general and once GTA V comes out for the 360 among other titles, I hope the big N has something "Significant" out that will help justify me buying the console.

All I want Nintendo to announce is game boy advance games for the 3DS or at least a sonic GBA collection with the three sonic advances, sonic battle and sonic pinball party.

Wonderful 101 release date for sure and some new e shop titles. They don't want to show the mar key items yet,

They are just giving us more of the same, I didn't see any new IPs in that list, just more sequels. I still have a nostalgic love for nintendo, but I will only get a Wii U if they start creating new content from 3rd and 1st party developers

I surely do not care until the next Galaxy/3d Mario or the Zelda hits the selves. Still playing Donkey Kong Returns on the Wii. They really need a matured IP like a Naughty Dog game from this current gen, a santa monica game or something really fresh. By mature, I do not mean blood, gore or guns.

To this day it kills me why are they re-making windwaker.. Oot was 10x better.

Now how about announcing a new F-zero, Star Fox, tell me that Retro is making a RPG or a Metroid game with flying space mission, etc...

I hope for the release date of Flipnote Studio 3D.

I can't wait to see the new Wii U games. :)

@swamptick

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Activision shells out the same tired franchises year after year after year. Each rehashed version of their games sell tens of millions of copies.

DoctorsTardis

@warhawk-geeby They are going to have E3 demos of unreleased games playable during the week of E3 at best buy locations across the USA and Canada. Put the demos right in the games hands. How's that for ya.

IanNottinghamX
IanNottinghamX

@warhawk-geeby What most people dont understand is the general effects the economic climate is having on the industry as a whole not just Nintendo. It wouldnt surprise me if Microsoft and Sony soon start pulling out of E3 in the coming years also to cut costs and do something like this. These big shows are an extravagant waste of money..

Meta_Dragon
Meta_Dragon

@warhawk-geeby Well they are having a closed door meeting with investors, and a small booth or something for their game demos. It's kind of like sticking your head in the sand, that's the reaction im getting from Nintendo at this point.

@ericstifer Not everyone dude. Only the young, dum and the immature gamer that do not care about gaming flame Nintendo.

I care about gaming and I will for one defend Nintendo to the end of time let alone my life time.

@ericstifer

The mainstream will never catch on to the Wii U.  They got burned last console cycle by Nintendo so why would they buy the Wii U and be a sucker?  They moved on to smartphones and tablets.

@snxx I wanna kill Patcher!.

Patcher keep wrong, and wrong again about Nintendo since Gamecube!.

SIDEFX1

@whitetiger3521 No they have not.. There is plenty of options and strategic scenario's that Nintendo can choose to take. They will not be shutting down any time soon. I think abHS4L88 is spot on about a way Nintendo is taking their strategy.

snxx

@whitetiger3521 The way I see, any true gamer supports and play every platform he can gets his hands on, even analogue games like board, card and miniature games or "pen'n'paper" RPGs.

JOTLD

@JOHN1486  They are just stating what we know so far, chances are they have a ton of content coming up for the wiiu, they mention specifically that they'll discuss the WiiU before E3 starts, won't be completely in this direct(probably not even close) but it'll give you something, and then in a month I expect to see you, and every other person out there amazed by their line up.

Meta_Dragon
Meta_Dragon

@IanNottinghamX Good point. I like the Apple-style conference that Sony did earlier this year and the one that Microsoft will be doing later this month. I think that style of press conference would be more beneficial and less costly then E3. But it's still kind of shocking news that Nintendo is not openly attending E3 like they have in the past.

Dannystaples14

@SIDEFX1 @ericstifer I care about good gaming e.g. Xbox, PS, PC and any other games that are worthy of the title of fun, (I don't play Angry Birds very often but it is still a fun game).

Nintendo are not in that category anymore.

I have a 3DS that is sat on my desk and has been there in the same position for months and months because there are no games out for it that I am even slightly interested in. The next game I'll get in Pokemon X or Y but that is because I want a 3D pokemon game. After that it might be getting sold who knows.

That is why we hate them.

And did you really call people who DON'T play Nintendo games immature? Hahaha seriously.

Aletunda
Aletunda

@FlameEmperor @dre256x I really hope they add a whole lot of new features and content to the game, otherwise why wouldn't you just put in the old gamecube game? (probably to play it on the hd graphics you say?) oh wait I thought nintendo didn't care about graphics!

Mugzippit
Mugzippit

@Dannystaples14 He called people who are young, dumb or flame immature, not people that don't play Nintendo games.
