Wii Last Story, Pandora's Tower hitting Europe in 2012

With Xenoblade Chronicles' launch imminent, Nintendo of Europe confirms new releases for Japanese RPGs; Nintendo of America mum on all three titles.

On Friday, Nintendo will launch Xenoblade Chronicles in Europe for the Wii. The console maker confirmed that it has still more Japanese role-playing games lined up for European gamers, as Nintendo today announced that it will localize The Last Story and Pandora's Tower for the region in 2012.

The Last Story will finally be told in Europe. The US? Not so much.

Those three games in particular have been the target of a fan campaign dubbed "Operation Rainfall." The group has been attempting to persuade Nintendo to release Xenoblade Chronicles, The Last Story, and Pandora's Tower worldwide but has thus far met with success only in Europe.

In June, the group organized a push to preorder Xenoblade (under the name Monado: Beginning of the World) on Amazon.com. The effort propelled the game to the top of Amazon's best-seller charts and caught the attention of Nintendo of America. However, the North American arm of the Wii maker soon deflated hopes, confirming that there were no plans at the time to bring any of the games to the US.

As of press time, a Nintendo of America representative had not readdressed the matter.

I have been playing Xenoblade since it came out in Canada, and I am extremely impressed by it, and definitely it is worth the time and money, and I am not big into RPGs/JRPGs. Xenoblade, like other games, adds more of a statement that game developers should at least stop making excuses of how the Wii is a failed console, and totally concentrate on making a good/awesome/perfect product, instead of focusing on mere visual and HD graphics. Yes, HD graphics and powerful specs is not everything that will make games and consoles successful. Hopefully, The Last Story and Pandora's Tower will be as good (or better) as Xenoblade.

YAY thank god that Europe is getting these first hate always being the last ones for releases although the irony is that Europe has been found to be the biggest gaming consumers overall lol

Screw them, Hack your WII to play PAL games and import it. It is their loss and since they wont listen, send them the big FU and go homebrew.

With the success of Xenoblade (and many other JRPG's) in any country it can be bought, there is no logical reason not to release an US version (unless you want your console to die in that market, which is not logical). The US market is huge, because it will also expand to the rest of America.. really Nintendo i don't get it... just give us a reason to understand, or give us the game.

@Wolflink001 And Nintendo wonders why they can't sell video games? When you deny the fans what they want you get lack luster sells and discontent! 80 million consoles sold but you can't sell to as little as 20% precent of that market base wow!!

I don't get it Nintendo. Games like Last Story would boost sells for the Wii. But you denie us the games we need so much. So, after Skyward Sword what next Nintendo? The Wii's funeral? I'll just go back to playing my Gamecube then...

The whole career of the Wii has been met with disappointment by me, this is just another such tale. Replay your PS2 games and forget the Wii.

If the online multiplayer portions of the game remain in tact for its North American release, I will buy it before it even has a chance to rest upon the shelf it was placed.

It doesn't make any sense that NOA wouldn't release Xenoblade and those other games in the USA, esp after so many, thousands of people, said they wanted those game here. If they don't localize it here, it proves that NOA are idiots. They also would lose a long time fan. I certainly wouldn't be getting a new sub to Nintendo Power.

i just ordered the game (xenoblade) from uk since its sold out in all stores i know in my country already i do like that europe finally get stuff since we are always the ones missing out - but i see no reason for not releasing it in na too if they refuse to put out some games in some regions - atleast dont sell consoles with region looks the ds was brilliant in that way and i could get all i wanted from usa and japan, wii and 3ds really shouldnt be region locked

As a EU gamer, I'm so happy that Nintendo Europe did us good for possibly the first time in history. Saying that though, I still want to see the games coming out in the US, there's no reason not to release them there. So far Xenoblade has been selling really well, with many retailers running out of copies of the game. If this demand keeps up, it'll show NoA to rethink their plans about bringing this great game to the US and hopefully it'll get them to rethink about the other two titles too. Anyone wanting to import the game, I think I know a retailer that'll ship to the US but you'll need to PM me for the info as it would be advertising. I wish you luck with Operation Rainfall.

They must make it. Do they want to make money or what? Three good looking game that Wii players really want to play. Please Nintendo do something for the gamers, not for yourself!

I imported the Japanese version of "The Last Story", and it's been fun playing it, but I don't speak Japanese, so I think I'm gonna have to import the English version next year... Thank goodness that Homebrew allows us to un-region-lock our consoles so we can play the games that apparently Nintendo doesn't want to sell in America. I think soft-modding & imorting (not piracy) is definitely the way to go.

This is one reason pirating is around. People want what the want. If they don't have legal channels of getting it, they will seek illegal channels.

Damn Europe seem to be getting these games with no prob but us gamers here in NA had to begged for them. WTF NOA?

The Europeon people must have been more recceptive to the wii. Then here. So they would be getting the redesign plus these three games. Here in North America people are more Xbox 360s and PS3 types of gamers I guess? I guess if you want those games in the US Reggie Fils-Aime is the man to see.

My copy of Xenoblade just arrived. Will buy both of these too. The only hope for a release across the Atlantic is if the sales figures for Europe are strong enough to make NOA think again.

@-Squirrel- NOA saying they'll watch the sales is their PR way of whispering no instead of outright saying it. If they outright said No then it would look bad. So instead they say Maybe and hope people forget about it with time and stop asking. Remember when the Wii launched? When it was criticized for not having HD rez? Nintendo said that because the Wii firmware is up-gradable, and because the 360 could add 1080p via firmware upgrade, Nintendo could do the same and add 720p. Did they do it? No! Do you remember that? Maybe not. But if they had outright said no it would have looked bad. Instead they said Maybe and hoped everyone would forget and stop asking. Surely enough everyone forgot and stopped asking.

History has just reversed itself although NOE is possibly making a huge business decision on their own by localising these games as all three look set to have British voice talent too, coupled with that and the big wigs at Nintendo choosing to launch all the big games with in a few days of each other means Europe is starting to get everything before NA for the first time ever, so you can maybe forgive some people for gloating but as a Nintendo gamer up until recently in Europe we have never had anything to gloat about as we always used to get the games 6 - 8 months late or just not at all. All those people who are hating NOA for this they are more than likely making the business decision of other exclusive and original Wii games haven't sold well, so they may consider these three as too much of a financial risk, and that is a risk that NOE seems to be willing to take.

As a US gamer and a supporter of Operation Rainfall I am still pretty optimistic. Nintendo said they will be watching Europe's sales (to decide if NA will receive these games), so they are dangling the idea of releasing them right in front of us. I hope they wouldn't do this unless they were secretly planning it. If you care about these releases support Operation Rainfall anyway you can. Either by wish-listing Monado on Amazon, taking part in the letter writing campaign, joining the FB page, signing the online petition, or as simple as demanding these games every time you take a Club Nintendo survey. Nintendo knows a lot of US gamers want these games already, but the more desire they see the better.

f-ing BS! they haven't had a very good selection of RPG's for the wii... the selections that they seem to have are either re-makes from older systems or old games that you can download online... the rest are not that great... there is about a handful of games that are excellent, which isn't saying much... wish we weren't left out of the loop, i was looking forward to getting my hands on The Last Story & Xenoblade Chronicles... *Shakes Fist*

I still find it dumb on Nintendo's part on saying they want to release hardcore games, but you can't localize 3 RPGs that aren't for the casual. NOA just doesn't get it.

I just pre booked the only copy of Xenoblade my gamestop is getting just to make sure it is mine. Even if it is being published her no one (except myself and now the guy in gamestop) seems to know about its existence.

@xcollector While I don't personally condone modding, I can definitely see why you'd want to for games like these. Making the console region-locked was a stupid move by Nintendo, especially considering what they're denying their customers here. Plus, if it's so easy to bypass the lock (going by what you stated below), then what's the point in even having it?

Freezezzy
Freezezzy

This wouldn't be so annoying (to those of us in the US) if not for the fact that they're already translated into English, AND being sold in Europe as well as Japan, and yet they still refuse to bring it here. Come on, Nintendo! Can you not see the amount of people (aka: customers) that you're alienating here with this foolishness. And they actually expect people to believe in third-party support for the Wii-U after all the BS Nintendo has pulled with the Wii? Ha!

I blame all the die hard Nintendo fanboys for Nintendos reluctance to release these games in the US. They asked for more hardcore titles and Nintendo published Samurai Warriors 3 Monster Hunter Tri and Sin and Punishment. Those fans didnt buy theme complaining that none of them were staring characters from fifteen years ago or more they even asked for Ice climbers. Their hasnt been an Ice climbers game sense 1985 and now you suddenly want a sequel. I also kept telling them Sin and Punishment is a 3D rail shooter like StarFox and makes better use of the Wii-mote. But they want the same game released over again.
