White Knight Chronicles questing on PSP in Japan
PS3 franchise heads to Sony's portable in all-new storyline set in Level 5's JRPG universe; due overseas in 2011.
Level 5's White Knight Chronicles made a considerable impression upon enthusiastic PlayStation 3 gamers following its debut at the 2006 Tokyo Game Show, largely due to its flashy visuals. However, reviewers were less effusive with praise when the game released in North America in February. Still, Level 5 is on track to release a sequel for the Japanese role-playing game in Japan next month, and the studio will also be bringing a new installment in the franchise to the PSP.
According to the most recent issue of Japan's Famitsu magazine (relayed by Andria Sang), the all-new White Knight Chronicles project will arrive for the PSP in 2011. The game will apparently not be a continuation of the current White Knight Chronicles story arc involving Leonard and the Dogma War, which is expected to conclude with the second PS3 installment.
Details on what gamers can expect from the handheld White Knight Chronicles are light, with Famitsu's teaser only indicating that it will tell "a story of your avatar and new allies." It will also apparently see players journey to "a new world."
Famitsu's report did not indicate whether White Knight Chronicles PSP would see release outside of Japan. Sony had not responded to requests for comment as of press time.
