Where the heck are the Crysis 2 reviews for the PC and PlayStation 3?

We've posted our review of Crysis 2 for the Xbox 360--but not for the other platforms. Look here to find out why.

by

As you may have noticed, we have posted our Crysis 2 review--but only for the Xbox 360 version. Now, you may be saying to yourself, "Hey GameSpot! This is a sequel to an awesome PC game. What about the PC version? And for that matter, what about the PlayStation 3?"

As it happens, there was a Crysis 2 review event where we and other members of the press were invited to play the game for review in a controlled setting. As you may know, we don't attend review events, because we feel that we should play games just like you would: using our own televisions and our own systems, and without interacting with game publishers or developers during the experience. While we've asked multiple times for review code for Crysis 2, we have yet to receive any other version but the Xbox 360 version--and we received that on Friday, four days before the game's release.

I finished the game on Saturday and have spent lots of time in multiplayer, so we went ahead and posted the review for the version we were sent. However, as of this writing, we still haven't received the other versions. In fact, we were specifically asked if we needed to play those versions before posting reviews. (Of course, the answer is always an emphatic yes!) I've already purchased and downloaded the PC version from Steam and will purchase the PS3 version today if we don't receive it in the mail. I didn't want anyone to think we were intentionally slighting the other platforms or ignoring them. Unfortunately, this is a frequent occurrence. We are commonly sent only a single version of a game for review--sometimes just a few days in advance of release and sometimes not at all. I wish we could have had a review of every version up at the same time, but I wanted to reassure you that I'm working on it, and we will post those reviews as soon as we're ready to deliver our final word.

@ DeltaCobra this is why i never bother trying to keep up on pc gaming technology, im pretty happy with my current set up that doesnt use a cracked out graphics card because i spend most of my time on consoles because its easier to socialize in online games on consoles opposed to computers (pc/mac).

If this game isnt bleeding edge.. then tell me what game is? I am pretty sure this is the edge. Not only are the graphics off the charts but the gameplay has more interesting features than other shooters.

Off topic but Crysis 2 is amazing btw. If they could have only gotten the AI a little more right it would be one of the best games I have ever played. For a shooter anyway. The game looks stunning in eyefinity mode on extreme.. I think on the PC anyway its the best looking game to date. Crysis still looks amazing but not everything in the game looks amazing.. The particle effects in Crysis 2 are jaw dropping. Off topic.. just wanted to spread some love.

some people are having trouble with the multiplayer, does the game have bots?, how come reviews do not even think about bots, I am sure they have great connections, but not everyone has, and what happens when games are hacked, it would be nice to have bots to play against.

TBH I am glad this game is great looking but not bleeding edge. Life atm is expensive. New cars, houses, clothes and damn even food - I cant buy a new PC rig every year just to keep up. PC = refresh every 3 years PS3 + XBOX360 = refresh whenever the consoles come out!! And that is just about enough for me. Not being a Killjoy but I just bought a dell alienware thing that cost me $6000 - and I barely used it! lol Consoles are the way to go in my life I reckon so I just bought a new iMac 27inch and just going to rock that for a few years. (its got windows on it ofcourse)

cry baby gamespot people. You should know by now that the 360's crysis 2 runs and looks better. It is even better when it is installed. I played it on PS3, 360, and PC. It is best on PC and has less bugs but also the hardware setting for the game lack. A lot of things are not in it like the others before it. The PS3's crysis 2 is not in HD. Not at all. The frame rate is better but what would the frame rate be if it was in HD. If you have both 360 and PS3, get it on 360. Even better, if you have a nice PC, get it on PC. For you PS3 fans who think I'm crazy.. Read the reviews and read what crytech had to say about it. It had to do with PS3's having less mem.

This is another way to increase the sales rate for X360.. Bravo GS!!.... I would say this is just a part of your plan... Thumbs down!!..

Actually, I would *rather* have the review be a week or two late and be done with a bought copy. That way you will include opening day patches and near-opening-day hotfixes as part of your review. The "review events" sound like a heck of a good place to get a late preview or even a "first impression" article. As long as you label it as such and don't give it a score, I think that would be fine. (EA might have another opinion, though.)

It is great that GameSpot editors do not attend review events, but it would be better if they do not get review codes and just purchased the games. This way, the editors will not be influenced by publishers, as it is possible that the publishers may have conditions on the review codes.

I'm saying this in the nicest (and most truthful) way possible but the day that GS ever give the PS3 version of a mulit plat game a higher score is the day me and my c***k part company :)

@with_teeth26 your assuming I'm assuming ... how ironic and how ignorant on your part. If you re-read your own comment honestly, you'll get a better grasp from where I got my "assumptions" and my "ignorance." lol

It's great that you guys have explained what has actually happened instead of lame excuses. That's a truly nice one of you Gamespot, you earn my gratitude. Thank you.

@flyingdutchdog - I don't own a PS3 and have never played on one. I have no bias towards either console, only towards the PC. Given the origin of the series I believe my complaints to be founded in reason, unlike yours, which are founded in assumption and ignorance.

Thanks for the information! Hey does anyone know when the dx11 patch will be released? Everywhere I look just says "dx11 patch to be released in near future". I'm just curious.

@tyskenfan From some of the reviews I've read the PS3 version certainly will not get a better review.

As far as PC users are concerned, Crysis 2 is a step down from Crysis (Sigh...). So, whatever.

i'm worried about the PS3 version of the game, the review from IGn was kinda rushed, the guy said he reviewed it after playing just half the game at the review event, and that there was only 1 PS3 version available (the X360 had 16). If Crytek is this shy about the PS3 version, it's safe to say we've got another lousy port.

Good to hear there will be separate review for PC version

After watching the video review on Youtube and looking at all the BAAAAAAW-ing in the comments over the fact how they didn't put the review on PC makes reading this oh so satisfying.

Kevin is doing the right thing. In this era where gamespot has dropped the ball and done copy paste reviews will absolutely no distinguishable differences between each platform on the rewiew, its good to see KevinV standing tall. I hope this type of behavior continues here at gamespot.

@Redman1984 There is the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, theyre great PC exclusive franchise, and they are RPG-FPS hybrids. So they can be called shooters in a way.

bravo gamespot for not blanket-reviewing. some games are very different from platform to platform (assassin's creed ii) and they need individual reviews.

I really hope the PC-version is the best version, because it started on the PC and I think it is a shame that there are not more PC-exclusive shooters!! In fact, I cannot think of any PC-exclusive shooter for the last 2-3 years?! Does anyone know?
