The next game from Project Cars developer Slightly Mad Studios is an airplane racing game. And, according to the studio, you should "put away your tray tables."

Officially called Red Bull Air Race -- The Game, Slightly Mad's next project focuses on the intense, and incredibly dangerous, sport of airplane racing. The races feature 14 pilots in acrobatic planes flying through a predetermined track marked by massive pylons. It's a time trial, so you'll go as as fast as possible through the track while trying to avoid penalties for missing checkpoints or wrong maneuvers.

The game is being codeveloped by Wing Racers Sports Games GmbH. According to a statement from Slightly Mad, this game marks the first time that plane racing has ever been playable on PC.

You can watch the first trailer for the game below, in 1080p and 60 frames per second.

From the short look at the gameplay, Red Bull Air Race appears to be on the same level of graphical fidelity as Project Cars. The trailer actually starts with a car, which looks very similar to Project Cars.

Red Bull Air Race will be released sometime in 2016. Not much else is known about the game at the moment, but Slightly Mad wrote in a statement that more news will be coming soon. Currently, Slightly Mad is also working on Project Cars 2 and it's in the process of being crowdfunded.
