What is Deus Ex: Mankind Divided?

New trademark filing suggests a new entry in the Deus Ex universe.

Square Enix has filed a trademark for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, but is that the title for the new Deus Ex game currently in development for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC?

Deus Ex studio boss boss David Anfossi revealed in October 2013 that a title for the new consoles and PC was in the works, as part of something called Deus Ex: Universe--which would be designed to create a connected game universe across multiple titles and platforms.

"The concept behind Deus Ex: Universe is to create an ongoing, expanding and connected game world built across a generation of core games," said Anfossi at the time. The studio also released a single piece of concept art (pictured), designed to show the "ghetto city" that segregates trans-humans.

"The people in this segregated class have reshaped their environment, nostalgic for their ideal of Cyber Renaissance. This dark and dystopian vision sets the tone for things to come in Deus Ex."

"It's a commitment on our part to deliver meaningful content that expands the franchise on a regular basis," concluded Anfossi, "and to deliver a deep conspiracy that will span several connected Deus Ex games, creating a more immersive and richer experience than ever before."

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided could always be a mobile game designed to slot into the Deus Ex universe, then: Square Enix has already dabbled in mobile titles, such as last year's Deus Ex: The Fall.

I think it's a sequel to Human Revolution, the clue is in the title.

"Human"

"Mankind"

Carries the same sort of theme, for me anyway. Of course I could be completely and utterly wrong.

oh god please not a mobile game!!! go back to the original deus ex, with open world, with populated streets. how is it after over 10 years the original is still the best, especially with all this talk of next gen computing power. An open world like elder scrolls in a deus ex setting would be unreal.

Deus Ex: The Fall was terrible. No more of that crappy story and its lame protagonist.

Not a mobile game either please... awkward controls, tiny screen... not fun.

If we see another mobile game someone over there deserves to be punched in the nuts!

I'm interested to see what this is as I love the Deus Ex franchise(even the 2nd one a little bit haha), the PS3 version is probably my most replayed game of last gen.

I hope they continue with the decent single player stuff and have online as a secondary thing(bit like GTA).

"Deus Ex studio boss boss David Anfossi" Wow, it's the Illuminati box-within-boxes structure, they have a boss boss, who probably is boss over other bosses.

First release a sequel to Deus Ex:The Fall(The game is a cliffhanger)  and then release a new Deus Ex.

If it isn't another HD version of dues ex human revolution X rated directors cut SUPER DIRECTORS CUT VERSION, or another crappy mobile port, I'll be surprised.

If you implement multi-player, then it will be a ruined game.

Deus Ex is far from being just a game. All these comment squander on petty details...  What we have here is one of the most epic visions of the future that you will feel in this time and age. Whether you like it or not is completely irrelevant. Those that truly embrace this game can feel what's ahead for our species

If it's a AAA title great, if it's mobile you can keep it.

It also worries me that it says "connected", I fear always online bs gameplay instead of single player greatness like Human Revolution.

Hope it's not another mobile crap or even worse an online crap.

I can't get hyped. As much as I love the series and as great as Human Revolution was, the last time there were teases about new Deus Ex games, they were some of the biggest letdowns ever. Human Defiance(great name too!) turns out to be an April Fool's joke? Really? And The Fall...ugh.

Instead of vague snippets and teases, they need to come out and say this time whether they are making a real game or not. Be straight up with the fans.

If it's another mobile game, I don't think we'll need to wait for augmentations to exist for a human revolution to start.

Then why on earth did you release Deux Ex: The Fall? :/

"Deus Ex: Mankind Divided could always be a mobile game designed to slot into the Deus Ex universe..."

Don't even joke about that, I'm not sure if I could handle that sort of disappointment again lol.  Fingers crossed for the start of a new set of games for the PS/Xbox/PC, I'm ready for some new Deus Ex.

@gamerno66666 I love that crates are mobile in Deus Ex, but I don't love a mobile Deus Ex. While Deus Ex: The Fall might or might not be more properly named Deus Ex: The Fail, I want Deus Ex to stay on PC and use the capabilities that it offers.

@gamerno66666 I don't think Square Enix ruined Deus Ex with Human Revolution as it was a very good game. I don't know about the mobile game, but Human Revolution was and is worth playing.

@Vienreich"the most epic visions of the future that you will feel in this time and age" Actually, I think that title is going to belong to Cyberpunk 2077 when its released.

@Vienreich While I feel it tells a compelling story, I'm not so sure I'd classify it as prophetic.

@Daian When hearing words like "universe" in a game title/concept, I always fear they're turning it into an MMO. Deus Ex is a great singleplayer game and I want it to stay a pure singleplayer game. Implementing multiplayer or other online bs will only be for the worse.

@JohnMafia Human Defiance.... or HD for short.  Deus Ex:  Human Revolution remake confirmed.
